Headlines

This week has seen piles and piles and piles and piles of Sleaford Mods records ready to be thrust out to you, the disenchanted people of the UK and elsewhere. We also got word on these Stereolab issues which seem to have made a lot of people very excited indeed. Otherwise, it’s business as usual as we rate and review the best bits of the week then, despite that, try to sell them to you. Below is all you need.

New vinyl and CDs and tapes (maybe)

Actual new unheard musics.

  • James Yorkston….It's lovely and heartwarming and seasidey.
  • Bayonne presents Drastic Measures with Trevor Eve. Thursday. 9 O’Clock. On BBC1.
  • Julia Jacklin like all of us is better when melancholic and sad.
  • Cinematic rackateers Teeth of the Sea.
  • Sleaford Mods instigate the worst band beef since The Siddeleys dissed The Haywains’ button badge.
  • Bvdub. Pads larger than those on the paws of a big fluffy dog.
  • Desperate Journalist manage to make even the most convoluted album concept sound limp.
  • Drenge make what they describe as “a psychological horror movie on wax.”
  • Better Oblivion Community Center is where Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers sang some songs together. Quaint.
  • Crossover success awaits for the once Sufjan’d Lily & Madeleine.
  • MxmJoy were great as Maximum Joy. Let’s hope those missing vowels weren’t the driving force.
  • Maximo Park. You can be sure of this...the hat will always be on...day or night.
  • Outsider veterans Half Japanese now very much inside.
  • LA veterans The Bangles, The Three O’Clock, The Dream Syndicate and Rain Parade  re-do each others old tunes not quite as good as first time round.
  • The Claypool Lennon Delirium. Les Claypool and...um...Aaron Lennon.
  • Leeds rackateers Bilge Pump celebrate their 57895th birthday with some prog/pop.
  • Once a Twerp Martin Frawley sings away his demons.
  • Chasms dub out some shoegaze sounds and one of them is called Jess Labrador.
  • Benny Sings has that whole Adrian Gurvitz schtick going on.
  • Spellling can’t even spelll the word.
  • Sheesh...more Immigrants. Don't tell Nige.
  • Bonobo does the old Fabric thing. Gets his sheets baby soft.
  • Slowdiver Simon Scott disc on touch - field recordings from cities, modular synth treatments, strings and laptop electronics.

Re-issues

Don’t worry, Record Store Day will be along in a minute.

Ant’s Electronic Round-Up

They say you can hear his headphone bleed as far away as Ben Rhydding cricket club.

  • Breathtaking album from King Midas Sound - a candid, stark and deeply affecting portrayal of love and loss, isolation and emptiness. Huge recommendation!
  • Gorgeous, decaying avant-ambient works from Swedish sound artist Mattias Gustafsson AKA Altar Of Flies.
  • Swampy dancehall doom 7” from Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement on Low Jack’s Les Disques De La Bretagne wing of Editions Gravats. 400 copies on green wax.
  • Slamming 12" EP of venomous, aggressive and driving techno tackle from Dez Williams on Riot Radio incl. Binny and Shredder remixes.
  • Modeselektor swerve techno conventions on their latest album.
  • Prolific master of sad, billowing ambient - bvdub album of tear-jerkers on n5MD.
  • Eternal disco classic from dirty talkin’ Klein & MBO…'MBO Theme' is reissued via Rush Hour with ace, rare cover version by South African band Warrior on the flip.
  • Stroom issue a collection of early minimal wave/synth-pop from Venetian group Ruins.
  • Planetary Assault Systems - The Light Years Reworks re-pressed on clear vinyl incl. Marcel Fengler, Psyk, Lucy, Slam, Steve Bicknell, Octave One, Function, James Ruskin, Kamikaze Space Programme and Slater himself.
  • Telephone Explosion reissue debut 1987 LP from Texas producer of off kilter ambient, Charles Ditto.
  • Fourth World ambient flavoured Regno Maggiore limited edition EP on Gang of Ducks with silk-screened artwork.
  • 12k goodness from Stephen Vitiello & Taylor Deupree and Corey Fuller.
  • Claudia Anderson techno ammo on Tresor.
  • Jeff Mills kicks off his Director’s Cut series. All tunes are 100% actually by him!
  • Suffocating blackened drone works from Saele.
  • Designer techno/post-rave music from Copenhagen dwelling producers Code Walk - released on Peder Mannerfelt's label.
  • Tape of Dunning & Underwood shenanigans using the The Mammoth Beat Organ.
  • Shanti Celeste & Hodge hookup for a 12” of techno/house/breakbeat party fuel.
  • Discounted bundle on the Noyzelab 5x 3CD-R sets on Psøma Psi Phi. Highly potent meditation drone utilities.
  • Coupla old Floating Points 12”s on Eglo re-pressed.
