Slowdive
Just For A Day

Having recently reunited to critical acclaim with an excellent album in 2017, it’s past time that Slowdive’s original output in the Nineties got re-issued. Music On Vinyl duly releases their 1991 debut album Just For A Day, the result of on-the-hoof studio experimentation and copious amounts of weed.

The Stooges
The Stooges

Garage rock legends the Stooges unleashed their raucous self titled debut onto an unsuspecting world in the otherwise flowery and peaceful year of 1969.  it contains several of their classic songs including I Wanna Be Your Dog and No Fun. You'd have thought critics would have flipped but it was met with a lot of disdain at the time being described as 'stupid' and a step back in a music scene that was moving terrifyingly towards progressive rock. Little did they know that it's thrilling raw power (see what I did there?) would be a major influence on punk rock.

Dead Can Dance
Toward The Within

Here's a live album from the classically inclined Australian goths Dead Can Dance. Recorded in 1994 at the Mayfair Theater in Santa Monica, California, it marked one of the final performances at the historic venue as it suffered major damage in an earthquake later that year. Their performance is as spellbinding and moody as ever, with the neoclassical darkwave legends performing many unrecorded tracks and their six studio albums.

Dead Can Dance
Into The Labyrinth

Into The Labyrinth was the sixth album by Dead Can Dance. Released in 1993 it was also one of their most commercially successful outings. The Australian duo of Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard wrote their songs separately highlighting their individuality for the first time. The album is also the first where the pair played all the instruments themselves. Taking influences from world and folk music, the art rock duo make music that is equal parts beautiful and mesmerising.

Badly Drawn Boy
About A Boy OST

Back when both Badly Drawn Boy and Nick Hornby were at the height of their fame the former soundtracked the motion picture of the latter's About A Boy. The film, a whimsical tale of a bumbling man (Hugh Grant natch), was perfect soft focus fodder for Badly Drawn Boy's acoustic romantic yearnings. Drugs, booze and a refusal to take the hat off stalled his career somewhat afterwards but this is a lovely reminder of how touching his music could be.
