Reuben
In Nothing We Trust

The final LP from Reuben gets a reissue courtesy of Big Scary Monsters. In Nothing We Trust is for-par stuff from the Surrey band. Screamo, post-hardcore, Brit-grunge - whatever you want to call it, it’s still getting heavy rotation on Kerrang! Radio. A pre-dreadfulness Frank Turner is one of the guest vocalists on In Nothing We Trust.

The Flaming Lips
Transmissions From The Satellite Heart

Transmissions From The Satellite Heart was the sixth album from Oklahoma lunatics the Flaming Lips but was the first to cross over to a bigger audience courtesy of alternative radio hit She Don't Use Jelly. It's a whole heap of skewed psych rock mayhem and documents the time when their singer didn't resemble an acid-fried Noel Edmonds.

Low
Trust

As we've alluded to elsewhere in these pages every Low album should have its place in your collection. Trust is a darker work than the previous accessible and relatively poppy Things We Lost in the Fire. It takes a few listens to hit hard but once it does it becomes one of their most emotional and hard hitting albums. They move slowly but always effectively.

Slowdive
Just For A Day

Having recently reunited to critical acclaim with an excellent album in 2017, it’s past time that Slowdive’s original output in the Nineties got re-issued. Music On Vinyl duly releases their 1991 debut album Just For A Day, the result of on-the-hoof studio experimentation and copious amounts of weed.

The Stooges
The Stooges

Garage rock legends the Stooges unleashed their raucous self titled debut onto an unsuspecting world in the otherwise flowery and peaceful year of 1969.  it contains several of their classic songs including I Wanna Be Your Dog and No Fun. You'd have thought critics would have flipped but it was met with a lot of disdain at the time being described as 'stupid' and a step back in a music scene that was moving terrifyingly towards progressive rock. Little did they know that it's thrilling raw power (see what I did there?) would be a major influence on punk rock.

Dinosaur Jr
You're Living All Over Me

Often regarded as Dinosaur Jr.'s opus, 'You're Living All Over Me' is a must-have classic of alternative rock, noise rock and indie. Fronted by guitar virtuoso J. Mascis and backed by Murph and Sebadoh's Lou Barlow, the trio plow through slacker rock jams which are as noisy as they are melodious. They can riff like Sabbath, play louder than Sonic Youth, and write tunes as catchy as any power pop/college rock group of their era. They brand their music as "Ear-bleeding country", a label which makes complete sense when you hear the Neil Young meets Hüsker Dü-isms of this classic.

Dead Can Dance
Toward The Within

Here's a live album from the classically inclined Australian goths Dead Can Dance. Recorded in 1994 at the Mayfair Theater in Santa Monica, California, it marked one of the final performances at the historic venue as it suffered major damage in an earthquake later that year. Their performance is as spellbinding and moody as ever, with the neoclassical darkwave legends performing many unrecorded tracks and their six studio albums.

Dead Can Dance
Into The Labyrinth

Into The Labyrinth was the sixth album by Dead Can Dance. Released in 1993 it was also one of their most commercially successful outings. The Australian duo of Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard wrote their songs separately highlighting their individuality for the first time. The album is also the first where the pair played all the instruments themselves. Taking influences from world and folk music, the art rock duo make music that is equal parts beautiful and mesmerising.
