Spacemen 3
Recurring

Recurring was the final album by Spacemen 3, originally released in 1991. The duo of Pete Kember aka Sonic Boom and Jason Pierce had pretty much stopped collaborating with each other before the album was recorded. This meant half the album was recorded by Kember and half by Pierce. The only track they both played on was the cover of Mudhoney’s When Tomorrow Hits. Kember went carried on making music under the Sonic Boom moniker whilst Pierce left to form Spiritualized. Features the classic, Big City.

Kraftwerk
Radio-Activity

Radio-Activity was Kraftwerk's fifth studio album originally released in 1975. It was the first of their albums to be purely electronic and was notable for it's more minimalist approach to their song craft. It is more drifty and avant-garde than earlier records and although it doesn't have the iconic status of their previous Autobahn, it was an important shift forward in their constantly developing electronic sound.

Kraftwerk
Computer World

Computer World was the eighth album by Kraftwerk. It was originally released in 1981. It included the single Computer Love which was released with The Model, from their previous album The Man-Machine, on the B-side. It was later released as a double A sided 12” and hit No.1. Yes, Krafwerk had a UK No.1 hit. Anyway, this album is widely regarded as a bit of belter.

Pole
1 2 3

Pole is German electronic musician Stefan Betke. His first three albums, prosaically titled 1, 2 and 3 were originally released between 1998 and 2000 on American indie label Matador. Here we have the three albums repackaged as a 7LP and 3CD box set by British institution Mute. The music has been described as glitch, dubtronica, damaged dub minimalism and ambient electronic minimalism. However you decided to label it, we’d say it’s classic, essential stuff.

The Adverts
Crossing the Red Sea With The Adverts

One of the great first wave punk bands, The Adverts had a tuneful and whip-sharp brand of fast, distorted power-pop to rival contemporaries like The Buzzcocks and Stiff Little Fingers. 'Crossing the Red Sea With The Adverts was their definitive musical statement, an all-guns-blazing LP of raw, noisy punk with an irresistible melodic edge and a hit single in 'Gary Gilmore's Eyes'. This reissue has a whole LP of bonus material from singles and live sessions of the era.

Wire
Chairs Missing

Wire's second album has now, belatedly, got the re-issue treatment. 'Chairs Missing' expanded the short, sharp art-rock of their debut 'Pink Flag' into something more rounded and experimental, particularly in terms of their song structure. The CD editions come with bonus discs of so many demos that you won't know what to do with them.

Conor Oberst
Conor Oberst

We’re not quite sure what the difference is between a Conor Oberst record and a Bright Eyes record, but seeing as Oberst himself seems to know right from left we’ll go with him on this one. The first LP to be released under his given name in twelve years, Conor Oberst picks up where Bright Eyes’ 2007 album Cassadaga left off. That is to say that this record moves back and forth between Emoricana balladry and folk-rock hoe-downs.

PJ Harvey
Rid of Me

Rid of Me was the second studio album released by P J Harvey following on from her debut Dry. It was recorded by Steve Albini and (possibly as a result) had a much rawer and primitive sound than Dry. It was performed by the trio of Harvey, Rob Ellis and Steve Vaughan and was the last LP the trio would record as a unit.

The Triffids
The Black Swan

The Black Swan is the fifth and final LP from much-loved Australian post-punks The Triffids. Originally released in 1989, the band drafted in The Smiths’ producer extraordinaire Stephen Street to help them put together their most ambitious record. From the cover artwork it should be obvious that their songwriting style had moved towards the sort of gallows balladry Nick Cave was doing around the same time. The Triffids are good at it, too.

The Triffids
Treeless Plain

Seminal Aussie group The Triffids have had a couple of their LPs reissued through PIAS, and unsurprisingly the band’s 1983 debut LP Treeless Plain is among the number. This is a florid collection that synthesises various contemporaneous strains of post-punk. Joy Division’s doomy prognoses, Durutti Column-style dreaminess, The Smiths’ 60’s-indebted indie and the energetic pop of Orange Juice all combine here. It makes for a wistful, often lovely listen. This new edition of Treeless Plain includes seven bonus tracks that The Triffids taped live for radio.

Reuben
In Nothing We Trust

The final LP from Reuben gets a reissue courtesy of Big Scary Monsters. In Nothing We Trust is for-par stuff from the Surrey band. Screamo, post-hardcore, Brit-grunge - whatever you want to call it, it’s still getting heavy rotation on Kerrang! Radio. A pre-dreadfulness Frank Turner is one of the guest vocalists on In Nothing We Trust.
