Dead Can Dance
Within The Realm Of a Dying Sun

Within The Realm Of a Dying Sun was the third album by famed Aussie duo and 4AD mainstays Dead Can Dance. It split the vocal contribution equally down the middle between Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard but was otherwise business as usual if usual is the right word for tinkering around with Indian and Middle Eastern sounds alongside church choirs, lashings of hammered dulcimer and the duo's unique vocals.

Laura Veirs
Troubled By Fire

This was Laura Veirs third album from back in 2003 and the first to reach a wider exposure before most of us checked in on the subsequent 'Carbon Glacier'. It showcases her delicious brand of beautiful voice, folky windswept songwriting and always the sense that it's very cold where she is. Now issued on lovely vinyl.

Wire
Pink Flag

Like many great albums of yesteryear, Wire’s debut, Pink Flag did very little commercially at the time of its release in 1977. It has fortunately and rightly since been awarded ‘classic’ status by fans and critics alike. Elastica also owe this album a debt of gratitude, check out Three Girl Rhumba.  Available as special edition, remastered 2CD with book on Pink Flag, demos and alternative mixes, remastered vinyl LP and standard digipak remastered CD.

Kraftwerk
The Man Machine

Yeah boy, this is the good stuff right here. You might know ‘The Man Machine’ as The One With ‘The Model’ on it, and it’s true that Kraftwerk’s seventh LP does contain some of their catchiest numbers (‘The Robots’ kicks off the record). However, this album also uses a sleeker pop sensibility to hide a plethora of futuristic ideas. A blueprint for so many genres to come, from synth-pop to techno to EBM.

Bert Jansch
Santa Barbara Honeymoon

Santa Barbara Honeymoon was one of the albums that grew out of the time that Scottish folk troubadour Bert Jansch spent in America, wherein he found new elements to bolster his sound. The album features as one of its highlights a cover of Jackson C Frank’s ‘Blues Run The Game’, and the reissue edition adds six bonus tracks. From Earth Recordings.

Bert Jansch
A Rare Conundrum

Scottish folk supremo Bert Jansch produced his eleventh album for public consumption in 1977, leading a band that featured Ralph McTell among others. A recent stint in America seems to lend a touch of the blues to the traditional folk style, adding fresh flavour. This reissue edition on Earth Recordings adds an extra three tracks to the original tracklist: hooray!

Pulp
It

Pulp It. Pulpit geddit? Years before Jarv Is Jarvis Cocker was already playing around with words. This was Pulp's 1983 debut mini LP and is a million miles away from the chart bothering glam -pop they would go on to make. However Jarvis Cocker's voice is unmistakeable and this mainly acoustic-led album is pretty damn charming.

Eno / Moebius / Roedelius
After The Heat

Bureau B reissue the second collaborative LP between notable egghead Brian Eno and Cluster members Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius. After The Heat came out in 1978 and is very much representative of the gains both parties were making at the time. Eno’s newfound interest in ambient and incidental textures combines nicely with the German duo’s Krautrock-derived electronica.

Pulp
Freaks

Freaks was Pulp's first full length album released way back in 1987. It is darker and more claustrophobic than their debut EP It and showcases the beginning of Jarvis Cocker's ability to spin a yarn over slowly building glam-pop. Strangely, there are three songs here he doesn't sing on but otherwise you can sort of hear a blueprint of what was to come. This double LP re-issue contains non-album singles and B sides.
