Bombay Bicycle Club
I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose

I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose is the brilliantly titled debut album from Bombay Bicycle Club originally released in 2009. The album showcases their ability to make literate and ambitious indie-rock that was compared at the time to the likes of Bloc Party and Broken Social Scene but also nodded backwards to the ambitious drone and noise of My Bloody Valentine and Loop.

Nine Inch Nails
Pretty Hate Machine

'Pretty Hate Machine' was the first time the public heard Trent Reznor's unique and approachable take on industrial music as Nine Inch Nails. Unlike the distortion heavy goth rock jams of classic releases like 'The Downward Spiral' or 'Broken', NiN's debut is more akin to the synth and electropop of Depeche Mode or New Order, albeit a fair amount darker. It includes the stone-cold classic single 'Head Like A Hole', plus the bangers 'Terrible Lie' and 'Sanctified'. An intriguing release that's a clear standout in Nine Inch Nails' discography, it's hard to believe this classic is over 30 years old.

Bob Dylan
Blonde On Blonde

Colombia are reissuing Legacy Editions of a whole brace of classic Bob Dylan albums, not that they seemed at risk of falling out of print. Blonde on Blonde was recorded in Nashville in 1966, and stretches to full-on double-album length. Includes favourites like ‘Just Like A Woman’ and ‘Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands’.

Lou Barlow
Emoh

Emoh (see what he did there?) was the first actual solo album by Lou Barlow even though he'd recorded solo as Sentridoh back in the day. It saw the Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr and Folk Implosion man delving deep into the dark crevices of his life by way of homespun and folky acoustic pop. Originally released in 2005, this is a 2LP re-issue on Merge.

Chapterhouse
Whirlpool - The Original Recordings

Key shoegaze outfit Chapterhouse have a treat to share with you here, in the form of all the original recordings that would go on to become their debut album Whirlpool. Furthermore, some tantalising extra tracks are present. Gnarly, heavy and heady, this is a key document of what was going on in the early 90’s for those with their ears to the ground. On Space Age Recordings.

The Shaggs
Shaggs' Own Thing

The Shaggs - a band comprising four sisters from New Hampshire who absolutely could not play their instruments or sing in tune - were largely misunderstood when they arrived on the scene in the late ‘60s.  However, their ‘outsider music’ was loved by the likes of Frank Zappa, NRBQ and later Kurt Cobain. The Shaggs Own Thing was their second album which saw their sound develop and mature somewhat from their ramshackle, yet beautiful beginnings. Here, they try their hand at covering The Carpenters’ Yesterday Once More and re-record their classic, My Pal Foot Foot.

Boris
Feedbacker

'Feedbacker' is Japanese experimental metal band Boris’ masterpiece, encompassing one song divided into five distinct movements. The piece shape-shifts from drone metal to psychedelia, bleeding into stoner metal and glorious noise where even the percussion distorts! ‘Feedbacker’ is a record which perfectly highlights Boris’ chameleonic tendencies, making it an essential record for fans of post-metal, psych rock, drone and noise rock.

Oliver Nelson
Skull Session

Recorded close to the end of his tragically cut-short life in 1975, during sessions for the Flying Dutchman label, Skull Session sees American jazz saxophonist Oliver Nelson in some of the finest form of his stellar career, building synthetic elements into his sound in league with a magnificent backing band including names such as Jerome Richardson and Bill Perkins. It now gets a deluxe re-issue on vinyl, featuring sleeve notes from musician Nat Hentoff.

Breakwater
No Limit / Do It Till The Fluid Gets Hot

Two ultra-rare deep cuts from Philadelphia funk band Breakwater, which both haven’t been available since being released as 12”-only promo versions in 1978, are re-released by Be With Records. ‘No Limit’ is as smooth and radio-friendly as funk comes, while ‘Do It Till The Fluid Gets Hot’ is much more of a party jam.

The Heshoo Beshoo Group
Armitage Road

A highly prized collector’s item since it was originally released back in 1970, Armitage Road was the sole studio recording from The Heshoo Beshoo Group. A critique of the apartheid regime in their native South Africa set to an inventive fusion of American and African jazz traditions, it now gets hugely overdue re-issue on vinyl via We Are Busy Bodies.

Antonio Adolfo
Viralata

Viralata is the big classic for explorers of Brazilian progressive jazz-funk, standing tall above the rest with its fabulous grooves. Antonio Adolfo and his band really nailed it here, earning the album a surprise afterlife as a favourite in seminal London dubstep club Plastic People… Needless to say original copies of this are supremely rare, but this first-time vinyl reissue is here to save the day! On Far Out Recordings.

New Order
Murder

Released in mid-1984 on Factory’s Benelux imprint but recorded around 18 months before during the sessions for Power, Corruption & Lies, New Order’s ‘Murder’ gets a re-issue on 12” vinyl. It’s part of the band’s campaign surrounding the Definitive Edition re-release of the album.

Mega Wave Orchestra
Mega Wave Orchestra

Mega Wave Orchestra’s eponymous album was originally released in Switzerland in 1988. The duo of composer and mathematician Christian Oestreicher and artist Richard Reimann set out to mix several genres of music thus creating something not heard before. What they’ve given to the world is a mix of classical, jazz, musique concrete and psychedelia. This is compilation which acts as an abridged version of the original.

Augustus Pablo
One Step Dub

One Step Dub was Augustus Pablo's re-working of Junior Delgado's One Step More album  - a perfect combination seeing as though the duo had toured successfully together across Europe. Pulp
This Is Hardcore

This is Hardcore is the sixth and final album from long running Brit-poppers Pulp and the 'difficult' follow up to their worldwide smash Different Class. Although it had none of the hits of the former, it was a dark and complex work and the sort of artistic statement that showed that the band weren't just Brit-pop stadium puppets. I'd hope in these more enlightened days the artwork would be less degrading to women but them were different days. I'm sure everyone has moved on and learned.

Elliott Smith
Figure 8

Shabby and shambling of appearance, Elliott Smith's look matched his songs in his earlier records. He was he weird loner who would win the race because he was so damn good. On Figure 8 they airbrushed both his face and his sound making a slick and polished record that saw those loveable rough edges smoothed away. Still they couldn't completely ruin Elliott Smith and Figure 8 features many examples of his the Beatles-esque prowess with a haunted melody. "I'm the wrong kind of person to famous" he once said and it's true  - we loved him just the way he was.

Emperor
Wrath of the Tyrant

Wrath of the Tyrant by Norwegian black metal band Emperor, their first release, was originally released in 1992 as a demo recording. It contains songs which were rerecorded to later feature on other recordings. Here we have a remastered reissue of the original LP with the original artwork restored. On Candlelight.

Ben Tankard
All Keyed Up EP

When All Keyed Up by Ben Tankard was originally released in 1989, it was hailed as a fusion of jazz, gospel, soul, dance and funk that had never been heard before. He likes to call it gospel jazz. Whilst multi instrumentalist Tankard still makes music, his last release being 2018, he is now star of his own US TV reality show as well as being a pilot and motivational speaker.

SWANS
The Great Annihilator

The Great Annihilator was Swans ninth studio album originally released in 1995. It is as intense as you might expect  - leader Michael Gira lived in a tent next to the studio for the entire three month creation of the record and the results were as majestic and haunting as anything in their catalogue. It was one of the harder Swans records to find in the racks, a situation rectified by Mute's decision to re-press it in 2017 alongside a download of Gira's solo Drainland.

Pixies
Come On Pilgrim... It's Surfer Rosa

Well there's no doubt that these are two of The Most Important Indie Rock Records Of All Time. Both are absolutely exceptional, in particular 'Surfer Rosa' which pretty much turned everything I knew on its head in my teenage years. 30 years after the event we get this luxury box set of both records plus a live show from the era. No new demos or whatever, but tasty and very collectable nonetheless.

Lightning Bolt
Ride The Skies

Originally released in 2001, Ride The Skies was the second studio album from Lightning Bolt, who, 19 years later, are beloved veterans of the noise-rock scene. It’s now getting a well-deserved re-release, complete with original artwork from the band’s Brian Chippendale and available on ‘baby blue sky’-coloured vinyl.

Beach House
Devotion

Devotion was our second drift intro the world of Beach House. The Baltimore duo had already gained a healthy fanbase for their self titled debut and this one did more of the same thankfully. It contains eleven slo-mo pop moments full of reverb drenched organs and slide guitar. A perfect dream date for fans of Mazzy Star, Galaxie 500 or Mojave 3.

Autechre
Incunabula

Wooo! Reissue of Autechre’s first full length album on Warp. Backed with a digital download code and a bonus live set. Probably one of the most “straight up” forms of these guys, but it’s still so very mad, pushes techno right out the window. Can’t imagine these will gather much dust. If you lot don’t get it, I will.

Ulrich Schnauss
A Strangely Isolated Place

We certainly need some music that screams "don't worry, everything is going to be ok" with big soothing synths and comforting bass lines right now. One answer could be to revisit Ulrich Shnauss's back catalogue which often melds Boards of Canada-style electronics with towering melodies. A Strangely Isolated Place was his second album and since Schnauss has the rights to his back catalogue back, he's doing the decent thing and re-issuing them.

Alice Coltrane
Radha-Krsna Nama Sankirtana

Alice Coltrane changed her life in 1977 and became a Swamini, teaching the Hindu religion. This also marked a change in her music. She released two albums in one year, Radha-Krsna Nama Sankirtana was one of them. It saw her embracing devotional music and running with it. Reissue LP on Antarctica Starts Here.

Ethiopians
Reggae Power

Ska / rock steady / reggae vocal harmony group Ethiopians were hugely popular in their Jamaican homeland scoring many hits during the ‘60s and ‘70s under the guidance of producer Karl ‘JJ’ Johnson. Philip Glass and Robert Wilson
Einstein On The Beach

Einstein on the Beach was a 1975 opera composed by Philip Glass and produced alongside theatre director Robert Wilson. It was this first part of Glass's 'portrait' series looking at those who have changed the course of history by means other than military. Here's your chance to get this well regarded minimal work on a luxury 4LP box set with 20 page book.

Ken Boothe
Freedom Street

Reissue of an LP by the man they used to call ‘Mr. Rocksteady’. After a string of hits for Studio One in the 60s, Ken Boothe took his style to Leslie Kong’s Beverley Records in 1970. Freedom Street, the resulting album, is full of great songs - the title track is a masterpiece of Jamaican soul - and proves a great outlet for Boothe’s wonderful, Wilson Pickett-esque voice.

Jonathan Fire*Eater
Tremble Under Boom Lights

Jonathan Fire*Eater were the nearly people of '90s indie rock. They began the sound that eventually would eventually make stars out of the likes of the Strokes and Interpol i.e dark and dangerous New York City cool with all the right influences (the Stooges, the Cramps, Nick Cave). It never quite happened for them but a man in Detroit was listening to them. A man named Jack who now has his own record label and so here is a re-issue of their 1996 extended play now with bonus added track.

Mariangela
Mariangela

An exhumation of a long-lost gem of early electronic pop. Made shortly after she signed with a major at the age of just 13 in the mid-Seventies, with the help of then-rising star Vangelis, Mariangela Celeste’s beautiful Mariangela was barely released in Western Europe. This re-issue ought to put things right!

Ceramic Hello
The Absence Of A Canary

For all you out there who like a bit of vintage Canadian minimal synth music then check out this re-issue of Ceramic Hello's 1981 era opus entitled The Absence of a Canary.  It's one of those legendary records with a back story to die for  - this early day synth-pop was half made by Brett Wickens who went onto work with Peter Saville helping to create record sleeves for Joy Division and New Order amongst others.

Steve Arrington
Down to the Lowest Terms

An American funk legend, sampled by dozens of first-wave hip-hop luminaries and former lead singer of Slave, Steve Arrington breaks off a seven-year hiatus to release new music. Down To The Lowest Terms includes production work from Mndsgn, Knxwledge and Jerry Paper and sees him dabble in soul, jazz and R&B.

The Cure
Pornography

It's 1982 and the Cure had yet to embark on the brighter more commercial tunes that would lead them to become true indie legends. Pornography then was a last depressed splurt of gothy bleating before they finally got their act together. It may have frustrated everyone who listened to it at the time but in the intervening years its uncompromising, challenging atmospheres have seen it become a fan favourite and the sort of artistic statement that has influenced key artists that trailed in their wake. Not for their more faint hearted listeners but a classic album nonetheless.

Straitjacket Fits
Hail

Hail is the debut album by New Zealand indie-rock band Straitjacket Fits. It was originally released, on Rough Trade in the UK, in 1988, two years after the band had formed. The band were part of New Zealand’s celebrated Dunedin Sound scene along with The Chills, The Clean, The Bats, The Verlaines and Tall Dwarfs, and released their records through the classic Flying Nun label in their homeland.

Low & Spring Heel Jack
Bombscare EP

Originally released in 2000 on the tiny indie Tugboat, Bombscare rather went under the radar, seeing American slowcore legends Low collaborate on four tracks with British electronic duo Spring Heel Jack. It saw the Minnesotan band at the apex of their powers, between two Steve Albini-produced classics, and Spring Heel Jack in the ascendancy just before their excellent album Masses. Now, it gets re-issued by Treader on 12” EP.

Lungfish

Lungfish are one of the classic post-hardcore bands, hailing from Baltimore and getting real weird with it. Conrad Schnitzler
Con

A re-issue on vinyl for Con, the 1978 collaboration album between Kluster founder Conrad Schnitzler and his Tangerine Dream colleague Peter Baumann in the Paragon Studio they had established together. It was among the final records to be made there, and didn’t really get the exposure it deserved due to Schnitzler’s reluctance to promote it. Perhaps that lack of exposure will change with this re-issue.

Waxahatchee
Cerulean Salt

Waxahatchee re-emerges as a full on indie rock star on Cerulean Salt, crafting songs with small flourishes and delicate melodies that work around a proper band structure. The same emotions of relationship grief resonate as did on the sparse American Weekend, but this record shows a maturer and more precise songwriter.

Brother Theotis Taylor
Brother Theotis Taylor

Proving that it’s never too late to have your music discovered is Brother Theotis Taylor a 92 year old singer and piano player known locally in Atlanta for his Sam Cooke falsetto and spiritual delivery. A lot of these tracks were recorded on a 4 track plonked on top of his piano so there’s a raw and soulful energy to these performances which sometimes sound like they are being drawn from a higher power.

Ultramagnetic MCs
Ego Tripping / Funky Potion

Melvin Bliss’s 1973 track ‘Synthetic Substitution’ may not be a household name, but Bernard Purdie’s drumbreaks became one of hip-hop’s foundational sounds, sampled countless times by hip-hop’s pioneers in the late Eighties. Ultramagnetic MCs’, however, were the first to do so for their 1986 single ‘Ego Tripping’, which is re-issued by Mr Bongo on 7” vinyl with its original B-side, ‘Funky Potion’.

Carcass
Necroticism - Descanting The Insalubrious

It sounds odd to say but Carcass are one of the most influential bands of all time. They've pioneered grindcore (and the even more niche sub-sub genre goregrind), played death metal and technical death metal on this record, brought melodic death metal to the world with 'Heartwork', and helped established the oddball 'death & roll' genre. Not bad for a bunch of lads from Liverpool eyy? 'Necroticism - Descanting The Insalubrious' is a fully fledged death metal staple. An essential listen for all fans of the extreme.

Logic System
Venus

Hideki Matsutake was a busy man in 1981. He was in high demand in the Tokyo music scene for his keyboard programming skills which led him to work with Akiko Yano, YMO, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Mkwaju Ensemble. He also managed to record a couple of albums himself under the name Logic System. Venus was the second of those albums and saw Matsuake exploring funkier and more organic sounds than he did on its techno predecessor, Logic.

Adult Fantasies
Towers of Silence

Adult Fantasies are Belgian duo Dirk Seghers and Gerrit Valckanaers as well as being a band you have to Google very carefully. They first met amid the hiss of four track recordings when a producer had accidentally mixed their recordings together. I guess that kinda worked, though, as they now make music fired by emotional response, great stories, imagery and colours, seeing the beginning of the recording process as starting with a blank canvas. Towers of Silence is their new album. On Stroom.

October Language

John Elliot's (Emeralds) always on point Spectrum Spools label give this classy album a much-needed vinyl reissue. Originally released back in 2006 on Carpark Records and later on Kranky, it's an album that truly deserves to remain in print. This fine work of Michael Jones and Turk Dietrich (Second Woman) has the sort of fuzzy, dense and droning emotive textures that will appeal to fans of Flying Saucer Attack, My Bloody Valentine etc.

Blondie

Blondie’s origins are in New York’s lower east side punk scene - CBGBs and all that, but they also made a huge impression in the world of pop too. Paul McCartney
Flaming Pie

Flaming Pie by Paul McCartney was his 10th solo album, originally released in 1997. It came at a time when Macca had been involved in The Beatles Anthology series. It caused him to remember the way he worked with the fab four and reevaluate his solo work. He often gets a bad rap for his later solo career, but there are some genuinely good songs on here. This was ultimately regarded as a return to a form for an artist who deserves a whole lotta love. It was produced by George Martin and Jeff Lynne and features musical contributions from Steve Miller and Ringo Starr.

The Stooges
Funhouse

Rarely, if ever, has the spirit and sound of rock’n’roll been distilled to such perfection. Iggy, the Asheton brothers and bassist Dave Alexander present a model of semi-improvised heavy psychedelic rock here. Loose and T.V. Eye are irresistible, but things get further out when Steve Mackay’s sax appears on the title track. After that, there’s nowhere to go but the insane chaotic blow-out of L.A. Blues. Unimpeachable!

Kate Bush
Hounds Of Love

Hounds Of Love is one of those LPs that you can end up skipping over because you feel like you already know it too well. In particular ‘Running Up That Hill’, ‘Cloudbusting’ and the title track are all old friends at this point. But here’s the thing - as frequently as you might hear its famous singles (or their famous covers), as often as it might crop up in retrospective lists and talking heads documentaries, Kate Bush's fifth studio album will never get old. It's just too good.

Following in the footsteps of his highly acclaimed 2014, fifth album release ‘DSU’, ‘Rules’ -which was recorded before ‘DSU’- has been remastered for vinyl release for the first time and is a well deserved document of the prolific songwriting personality that is Alex G.

Redd Kross
Phaseshifter

A Redd Kross classic has got the Third Man reissue treatment. Phaseshifter was originally released in 1993. It saw the McDonald brothers blending power pop and heavy rock, which occasionally bordered on psychedelia with tracks like Huge Wonder. Also Includes the singles Visionary, Lady In The Front Row and Jimmy’s Fantasy.

Redd Kross
Show World

Looks like Third Man are re-issuing a couple of Red Kross's out of print albums starting with their 1997 effort Show World. The band had already been going for well over a decade by that point honing their unique brand pf psychedelia and power-pop. By the time of Show World they were on major label Universal and it was to be their last album before going on a decade long hiatus.

Mercury Rev
The Secret Migration (Deluxe Edition)

The Secret Migration was the fifth full length album by magical Disney-inspired and long running band Mercury Rev. When it came out it was just a single album but now as if by magic it has extended into a 5CD box set with B Sides, rarities, a live show and a CD of their soundtrack album Hello Blackbird. A bumper edition of an often neglected work.

Miles Davis
Bitches Brew

'Bitches Brew' is a jazz standard living outside of jazz standards, believed to be one of the best ever made. 'Bitches Brew' is recommended for fans of improvisation and weird compositional stories (Davis "arranged his band in a semi-circle" and conducted them vaguely - sounds like he might have heard 'Trout Mask Replica' once or twice). Perhaps the most experimental of Davis' works.

Miles Davis
Kind of Blue

It may seem ironic that the biggest-selling album in jazz history is such a subtle and understated beast - perhaps less so when you consider it as a sublime masterpiece of subtlety and understatement. Improvisation is an enigmatic and elusive thing, especially at the envelope-pushing level captured here, with Miles and sidemen forging ahead and abandoning the strictures of hard bop for the relative freedom of a modal approach. Even for musicians of the calibre of Coltrane and Bill Evans, there’s a special unplannable magic here, where every player is utterly in the zone and in synergy. They all unleash majestic lines like it’s the easiest thing in the world. Kind of Blue is no daunting, towering edifice - it doesn’t insist on itself, but is a gently seductive and laidback entity. It’s beautifully recorded record too, and one of the nicest vinyl experiences you can have.

The Twilight Sad
Killed My Parents And Hit The Road

The Twilight Sad always seemed like too much of a bunch of nice lads to actually murder their parents. I hope they didn't do that. They did though once hit the road with Mogwai and this album was originally a compilation of live tracks and outtakes intended to help fund such fun ventures.  You can now get it on vinyl for the first time and as well as their stellar original work there's covers of tracks by Joy Division, the Smiths and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs tribute to the greatest '80s party band there ever was... Modern Romance.

Cocteau Twins
Heaven Or Las Vegas

‘Heaven Or Las Vegas’ was originally released in 1990 and was to become the bands most commercially successful release, reaching Number 7 in the UK Album Charts. Numerous publications have since declared it one of the best albums of the 90s, with Pitchfork calling it “a core of ungodly gorgeous songs that is every bit as moving and relevant today as it ever was.”

Jan Garbarek
Places

Reissue of Nowegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek’s Places. Originally released in 1978. High regarded as one of his best, Places is stark and isolated with Garbarek’s sax floating in a distant drone of organ chords, and percussion you barely notice coming into the forefront. Features Bill Connors (guitar), John Taylor (organ, piano), and Jack DeJohnette (drums).

Genghis Tron
Dead Mountain Mouth

Dead Mountain Mouth was the debut album from New York-based metal slow movers Ghengis Tron. It set a template for their innovative blend of doomy metal riffs and more esoteric electronic flourishes. Ten tracks of skull-crushing heaviness now re-pressed on Relapse after its initial pressing on (wait for it) Lovepump United.

Aesop Rock
Labor Days

It's official, Aesop Rock is the wordiest rapper of all-time. 'Labor Days' is his breakthrough album, seeing a great deal of underground success and acclaim. His beats are often in the vein of experimental hip hop producers like El-P (Cannibal Ox, Run The Jewels, Company Flow), Blockhead and DJ Shadow whilst his lyrics are knotty and often intangible. Alongside 'The Impossible Kid', this is the best place to start with Rock. Check out the track 'Daylight' and you'll get the idea of what this LP is about.

Tom Waits
Glitter and Doom Live

Here is a collection of highlights from Tom Waits’ 2008 extremely well-received tour Glitter And Doom, which seems to be the last time he gifted the world with a full tour. The live album is presented in two parts, with disc one the ‘straight’ (relatively speaking) live album and disc two made up of ‘Tom Tales’, e.g. strange spoken musings by the great mystery man. Essential part of the big Waits puzzle.

Camberwell Now
The Ghost Trade

The Camberwell Now were a noise/art group formed by drummer and vocalist Charles Hayward after the disbanding of This Heat, featuring This Heat’s sound technician Stephen Rickard who created analogue sampling boards for field samples and tape manipulation way before the sampler was brought in. First vinyl reissue since 1986 and features a bonus unreleased track.

Grouper
A I A : Dream Loss

AIA: Dream Loss was the first of a two part album series released by Grouper (aka Liz Harris) in 2011. The album continues her journey into deep ambience and distorted slow moving dream pop and has been compared to the earlier similarly muffled and spacey sound of Flying Saucer Attack. Long out of print, these two albums have received essential re-issue courtesy of the good people at Kranky.

Loscil
Submers

Issued on vinyl for the very first time on Kranky, Submers is the second studio album by ambient artist Scott Morgan, recording under the name Loscil. All of its tracks are named after submarines, and the mood, constructed largely from samples, is one of ominous moods, clangorous rhythms and claustrophobia.

Ze Roberto
Lotus 72 D

And there’s this Norman Records™ keyboard cat thinking that the Zé Roberto we were dealing with was the former Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Brazil footballer. More fool me. Anyway, the Z-Rob in question is another Brazilian who made one LP and a few singles in the 70’s. 1973’s ‘Lotus 72 D’, a tribute to champion Formula 1 driver Emerson Fittipaldi, is a strutting samba-funk number that has been subject to renewed interest since its inclusion on the 2001 compilation Via Brazil. On that album it was pitched up in what became known as the ‘Fast Version’, something Mr. Bongo have included on this 7” alongside the original.

Chromatics
Night Drive

Before Johnny Jewel became famous for his soundtrack work (see Lost River, A Beautiful Now) he was a member of Chromatics. Night Drive was their third album and the on which transformed them from DIY noise rockers to sleek '80s influenced synth soundtrackers keen on Italo disco and leading to tracks from the album appearing on all manner of films and TV shows.

Elbow
Dead In The Boot

Dead in the Boot was a B side collection from Manchester soak Guy Garvey and his not so merry band of brothers. It was released in 2012 and was sequenced in non chronological order to attempt to make it flow as an album. It is resolutely downbeat and showcases a different side to their rainswept rock and Garvey's back of a beermat observations.

Elbow
Asleep In The Back

A re-issue on two heavyweight vinyls for Asleep In The Back, the 2001 debut studio album from Elbow. Housing a number of wonderful, spectral singles that grazed the lower end of the UK Top 40, it was the first album of theirs to be nominated for the Mercury Prize, an award they would win seven years down the line.

Elbow
Leaders Of The Free World

Leaders of the Free World was the third album from Mancunian plodders Elbow. It perfectly showcased their brand of northern melancholy that would later win them a Mercury Prize and have just married couples swooning at the sheer alcohol-soaked romanticism of it all. Bring a tissue and a pair of ear muffs. Part of a wider vinyl re-issue campaign of their back catalogue.

Various
Ghost World (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Without Blueshammer there'd be no Kings of Leon. It is as simple as that. The authentic blues band are the biggest name on this soundtrack of the fabulous film Ghost World. You also get a bit of Skip James, some seventy year old calypso recordings and rare blues dredged up from old 78rpm records but nothing in the world of blues-rock can compare to the mighty Blueshammer.
