Bert Jansch
Nicola

Bert Jansch’s fifth album for the Transatlantic label was Nicola, one of Jansch’s fullest-sounding records as a result of some luscious string arrangements on some of the tracks. As ever, Jansch’s deft acoustic guitar and rich voice carry his folk material perfectly. This reissue on Sanctuary has been remastered from the original tapes.

The Orb
Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld

Sheesh! The Orb's legendary debut LP gets a 4LP re-issue to mark its 25th anniversary. An odyssey of ambient and dance the record has many stand outs such as 'Little Fluffy Clouds' making it one of the few places where psych and dance properly collide. Comes in the original artwork. I'm not sure if there are bonus tracks as it doesn't say.

Flying Saucer Attack
Further

Further is the last 180 gram vinyl in Domino’s Flying Saucer Attack reissue series, and the only official studio album they are repressing. This record from 1995 finds the band in proper psychedelic form, balancing their drone and shoegaze experiments with ambient music. As always with the group, those gorgeous vocals are never far away.

Kate Bush
Director's Cut

This is where, instead of recording a new album, Kate went back to tracks recorded for her albums 'The Sensual World' and 'The Red Shoes' and reworked them using bits and pieces of the original recordings and new additions. The result is, as always, fascinating particularly the lead track 'Deeper Understanding' which just showcases how far ahead of the curve Kate has always been.

Erasure
Wild!

This was Erasure’s fourth record, a super-hit when it was released in 1989. With all 4 singles selling very well, it’s fair to say that the bold and bright synth-pop of Wild! played a serious part in defining the sound of that year. And yet, the vinyl edition has been long out-of-print! No longer, as Mute have pressed up a new brace of 180g vinyl copies, presented with the original artwork and packaging.

Erasure
Chorus

This is Erasure’s fifth record, a platinum synth-pop super-hit upon release in 1991. But the vinyl edition of Chorus has been out-of-print for most of the intervening years, having never been reissued… Until now! Mute have pressed up a new brace of 180g vinyl copies, presented with the original artwork and packaging.

Erasure
I Say I Say I Say

This was Erasure’s sixth record, and jumped straight to number 1 upon release in 1994. And yet, the vinyl edition has been long out-of-print! No longer, as Mute have pressed up a new brace of 180g copies of I Say I Say I Say’s majestic synth-pop, presented with the original artwork and packaging.

A Hawk And A Hacksaw
The Way The Wind Blows

Third album from A Hawk And A Hacksaw, bringing us back to the heady days of 2006. The Way The Wind Blows finds our heroes Jeremy Barnes (also of Neutral Milk Hotel) and Heather Trost working with Romanian folk group Fanfare Ciocarlia (recorded on location) and Zach Condon, soon to be of Beirut when this was recorded. A wonderful Balkan-style folk trip, reissued by The Leaf Label.

Arena
Arena

This album, the only record made by the selection of Australia-based session musicians who went under the name Arena, is so revered by collectors of jazz-funk and rare grooves that it is very hard to find any of the scarce original pressings. But this material is too strong, too interesting, too special for that to remain the case: hence this Record Store Day reissue!

Miracle Legion
Portrait of a Damaged Family

Ah now this is more like it Record Store Day. 'Portrait of a Damaged Family' was Miracle Legion's fourth and to date final record but they'd got themselves in a right old muddle with their record company at the time so it was only given a small release. In fact as a Miracle Legion obsessive I only found out about it's existence years later. For the uninitiated, Miracle Legion were a popular mid '80s band that followed closely in the footsteps of REM's early dream like pastoral pop. After they split, singer Mark Mulcahy released a series of acclaimed solo albums of which Thom Yorke is a fan. The band is re-uniting for some shows this summer. Come to England, please.
