Lino Castiglione
Clouds

Beautiful Italian library obscurities from Lino Castiglione, collaborating with Paolo Casa. Clouds is a set that spans plenty of different sounds and styles and tones and textures (it is designed to be library music after all), but with a thick spine of creativity and quality running right down the middle. Edition of 500 remastered reissue LPs, on the Spettro label.

Roberto Conrado / Antonino Scuderi / Piero Romano Montanari
Bass Modulations

Originally released in 1973, Bass Modulations brought together three composers Roberto Conrado, Antonino Scuderi, and Piero Romano Montanari to create tracks focused around bass, and filled with 70s funk, groove, and soul. This is a breakbeat or library collectors dream, with licks on all instruments that’ll make you drooooool.

Night Forest

Siberian pianist and composer Ilya Beshevli has a simply gorgeous ear for a melancholy melody, and his debut album Night Forest is full of sweeping neoclassical compositions of shimmering emotional power. Reissued on Village Green on CD and LP: the album’s first appearance on vinyl. Plus a download code for a label sampler!

Trad, Gras och Stenar
Trad, Gras och Stenar

Anthology Recordings reissue material from the definitive lost Swedish prog rock band, Trad, Gras och Stenar. Six vinyl LPs or three CDs of fuzzed out jams and psychedelic rock from the golden-age. This set focuses on the band’s ferocious live performances, but also includes albums from 1971 and 72 at the peak of the bands counterculture freak-out. It also looks phenomenal.

Howe Gelb
'Sno Angel Like You + 'Sno Angel Winging It

Giant Sand man Howe Gelb had a rather fantastic experience performing on the same bill as a number of gospel choirs in 2003, and decided to bring a choir into his own solo work on 2006’s ‘Sno Angel Like You. This reissue presents the beautiful, sensitive results alongside the feature-length documentary ‘Sno Angel Winging It, making for a hell of a package. On Fire.

Martin Bramah
The Battle Of Twisted Heel

Martin Bramah was in the original line-up of The Fall, 40 or so line-ups ago. In fact, he was the singer until King MES took the throne! Mark gets a dissing on The Battle Of Twisted Heel, Bramah’s 2006 solo record, which was deeply rare up until now. This reissue on Tiny Global Productions is arguably the first proper release of this quality material, as the first ‘release’ was less than 30 copies...

Blue Orchids
Awefull

Blue Orchids are a sort of alternate-universe vision of what The Fall could have been: they are comprised of the original line-up of the band after Mark E Smith headed off to form Fall’s mark 1, 2, 3, 4… There is certainly an early Fall vibe to Awefull, but pushing in a somewhat more psychedelic direction. This is the first time the record has been reissued on vinyl.

New Order
Singles

New Order were always a singles band first and foremost, so this release ought to be your one-stop shop. A fair few solid gold hits here (‘Blue Monday’! ‘Temptation’!), presented in proper 7” single edit form where available. All the audio has been remastered since the last time Warner released Singles, and a little new material is in there too. Released as a double CD set or as a deluxe quadruple LP vinyl box-set.

Trainspotting - Music From The Motion Picture

Trainspotting was massive, you already know that. It also had an absolutely incredible lineup of artists on the soundtrack that stands on its own as a great collection of tracks that share the severe ups and downs of the film. Includes Iggy Pop, New Order, Blur, Underworld, Lou Reed, Pulp, Leftfield, Brian Eno and Damon Albarn.

Lee Moses
Time and Place

Long-time soul session musician Lee Moses (he played with Gladys Knight and Jimi Hendrix!) made his debut as a frontman and bandleader in 1971 on Time and Place. It wasn’t a hit, but it is a classic: Moses is light enough on his feet to get that lithe groove going, but also tough enough for his vocals and brass arrangements to carry serious heft. Reissue on Light In The Attic.

Selector Dub Narcotic
This Party Is Just Getting Started

Calvin Johnson, the man with the lowest voice on the entire planet is back with more party jams courtesy of his slightly reworded Dub Narcotic brand.  This is a collaboration between Johnson and hip hop producer Smoke M2D6 and of course heavily features Johnson's trademark melodica puffing along with the dance pop garage on offer.

The Verve
A Storm In Heaven

Debut album from The Verve (back when they were just 'Verve"), remastered and piled in with a tonne of ridiculous goodies. Including all the tracks from their EPs before the album, two radio sessions, acoustic versions, a DVD of live and studio videos and even two unreleased studio tracks – South Pacific and Shoeshine Girl. I think they are allowed to call that a super deluxe edition. Note this is for the Deluxe CD package which is now out of print so you'll have to make do with some regular vinyl.

94 East feat. Prince
Just Another Sucker

And.. a star is born. Welcome, Prince. 94 East was the start of Prince’s inimitable career path, with Pepe Willie recognising his ridiculous amount of talent from the get go he shoved him straight to the front of his band and the story starts there. This collection of tracks from 1975-1979 is pure fire funk, and has the formerly artist formerly known as Prince all over it.

Terry Allen
Lubbock (On Everything)

Here is the 1979 second album by Terry Allen, beautifully reissued by Paradise of Bachelors for your pleasure. Lubbock (On Everything) is a high quality Texas country / alt-country record with a smart satirical vibe. Depeche Mode
Some Great Reward

Some Great Reward was originally released in 1984. It was after its release that Depeche Mode started to gain a worldwide audience. The number of fans turning up to their gigs in the States increased noticeably and the album's biggest hit, People Are People was used by German TV as the theme song for their coverage of the Los Angeles Olympics. Some Great Reward is arguably Depeche Mode's best album as words such as "classic" and "timeless" are often used in the same sentence.

Roy Harper (via his Science Friction label) is doing us all a valuable favour by getting a few classic early Harper records back into vinyl circulation again for the first time in decades, to celebrate Harper’s 75th birthday. 1973’s Lifemask was recorded during a heavy illness, and contains the full-side treatise on mortality ‘The Lord’s Prayer’. The audio has been remastered, and is presented alongside lyrics and liner notes.

Public Image Limited
Album

Essential deluxe reissues of essential cutting-edge post-punk: John Lydon’s Public Image Limited. Album was recorded in 1986 with Bill Laswell producing and a star-studded cast of session players (Ginger Baker! Ryuchi Sakamoto!). This reissue on Universal contains 4 CDs / LPs of material, with B-sides, demos, outtakes and a live gig as well as the original Album.

D.O.A.
World War 3

As with most great punk tracks, World War 3 was recorded on nothing more than cheap booze and shoe strings, by a group of friends, with a truly poignant story to tell. Here, it’s the cold war, and punk rock was the perfect antithesis. Repressed and re-released 37 years later, it’s just as powerful. Punk rock, that is.

MF DOOM
Operation: Doomsday

MF DOOM’s debut studio LP ‘Operation: Doomsday’ is one of those records that often appears on ‘best of the 90s’ lists. Released in 1999, this album established DOOM as one of the most original and vibrant voices in hip-hop’s underground. DOOM proves himself both an unparalleled wordsmith and highly dexterous producer here (the record is almost exclusively produced by Metal Fingers, DOOM’s beat-maker moniker). Gritting up A Tribe Called Quest’s jazz-rap style with shades of the RZA’s classic output, ‘Operation: Doomsday’ is an album for the ages.

Pearl Jam
Who You Are / Habit

High time for some Pearl Jam reissues to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the No Code-heralded next phase of their career. As well as the albums, we have the singles: Who You Are / Habit was the first single from No Code. The drums and sitar-heavy sound was pretty surprising new territory for Pear Jam, and it ruffled a few feathers. Now re-pressed on 7” by Legacy.

Pearl Jam
Hail Hail / Black, Red, Yellow

It's time for some Pearl Jam reissues! As well as two mid-90’s albums, we have the accompanying singles: here is Hail Hail / Black, Red, Yellow from 1996’s experimentally-leaning No Code. Although Hail Hail is a proper rocker really... Now re-pressed on 7” vinyl by Legacy, in an edition of 500.

Tee Mac featuring Marjorie Barnes
Night Illusion

Originally released in 1980, 'Night Illusion' is an Afro soul classic that's ventured deeper into obscurity over the years, and still remains relatively unknown outside of Nigeria. Once impossibly hard to find - thanks to Soul Jazz Records, the enigmatic Tee Mac and the lost 'Night Illusion' sees the light of day once more for those who missed it first time around.

The Ballad Of JFK – A Musical History Of The John F. Kennedy Assassination (1963-1968)

The Ballad Of JFK - A Musical History Of The John F. Kennedy Assassination is an unusual compilation of unusual music: everything here was recorded in tribute to JFK, and much of it was only released in private pressings. That means super-rare material that is often a little odd. It makes for a great document of cultural history: thanks Iron Mountain Analogue Research!

Manuel Gottsching
Inventions For Electric Guitar

Solo outing number one from the Ash Ra Temple / E2-E4 legend Manuel Göttsching. Inventions For Electric Guitar, dating from 1974, pushes the instrument through a tangle of delays and echoes so that these pieces sound very far from solo guitar pieces. As hypnotic as anything Göttsching ever produced. CD / LP reissue on MG.ART.

Asa-Chang & Junray
Jun Ray Song Chang

Jun Ray Song Chang brought Asa-Chang (working here with Junray) to the attention of many back in 2001 when it was first release, thanks partly to the championing John Peel. The melding of East-Asian percussion, delicate melodies and tiny tweaks of electronic processing makes for an unusual, engaging listen, and it is good to have this record back on vinyl again. Reissued by The Leaf Label.

Blue Marvin Orchestra
Codice d'Amore Orientale

Codice d’Amore Orientale is an old Italian film that looks like it might be just a little bit erotic. Film composer Alberto Baldan Bembo plays up to context by adopting the moniker Blue Marvin and directing his musicians to play some pretty wild funky experimentalism that could certainly get you in the mood. LP reissue as part of Schema’s SCEB Series.

The Bevis Frond
It Just Is

The Bevis Frond are the indie rock outfit led by Nick Saloman, who have been working away at the edges of the British music scene for decades now. The Fire label are reissuing a number of key Frond releases, including It Just Is, which is actually a Saloman solo release: he plays every single instrument here. CD / 2LP reissue.

The Bevis Frond
Sprawl

The Bevis Frond are the indie rock outfit led by Nick Saloman, who have been working away at the edges of the British music scene for decades now. The Fire label are now reissuing a number of key Frond releases. Sprawl is one of the group’s most psychy outings, with some lengthy tracks and a David Tibet guest vocal. Lots of rare material is included on the bonus CD!

The Bevis Frond
Superseeder

The Bevis Frond are the indie rock outfit led by Nick Saloman, who have been working away at the edges of the British music scene for decades now. The Fire label are now reissuing a number of key Frond releases to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the group. 1995’s Superseeder has a fair bit of garage-rock and even quasi-Indian sounds as well as the indie. CD / 2LP reissue.

Depeche Mode
A Broken Frame

The second LP from perennial synth-botherers Depeche Mode gets the reissue treatment. Well, we say second LP, but in a way 1982’s A Broken Frame is the first statement from the Depeche Mode we’re so familiar with now. Following the departure of Vince Clarke - he’d gone off to play with Alison Moyet in Yazoo - this album saw Martin Gore become the band’s principle songwriter, a role he has held to this day. A Broken Frame helped set the tone for the run of darker records that the band would make throughout the ‘80s. Contains ‘Leave In Silence’ and ‘The Meaning Of Love’.

Depeche Mode
Construction Time Again

Look at that man wielding an axe. It kind of works as a perfect image for Depeche Mode's third album. The band had been getting interested in the sounds of industrial rock and so started to incorporate banging, hitting things and other forms of racket into their hitherto shiny synth pop. The result was one of their best early day albums and a single Everything Counts that according to the track list is so good it appears on the album twice.

Depeche Mode
Speak & Spell

Speak and Spell was Depeche Mode's debut album, originally released in 1981. The album is notable for showcasing the talents of Vince Clarke, who was the chief songwriter. Clarke left the band after it was released. Among many of the classics on here Just Can't Get Enough is probably the most well known. Speak and Spell is available on vinyl LP.

Roger Miller
Oh

Roger Miller took some time out from playing in the likes of Mission Of Burma and Destroy All Monsters back in 1988 to record Oh at home. It’s a damn good piece of solo weirdness, with experimental out-sounds and songcraft in equal measure. Out also includes Miller’s remarkable take on the Sun Ra anthem ‘Space Is The Place’. Important reissue from Feeding Tube Records.
