Nick Cave & Warren Ellis
Music From The Motion Picture - The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford

Yeeeee-haw! Those old cowboys Nick Cave & Warren Ellis roll into town, pistols cocked and boots spurred, with their music for Andrew Dominick’s 2007 flick The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford. This was only the pair’s second scoring job (they’ve since done a fair few more), but you wouldn’t know it by the confident, grand music here. Their Southern Gothic chamber schtick is highly evocative.

Spiritualized
Songs In A&E

Songs In A&E is Spiritualized’s 2008 record, themed around some intense mortality fears following on from Jason Pierce’s life-threatening time in hospital. Plays well into classic Pierce themes: lots of God, lots of Devil, and lots of drugs. The reissue, from Sanctuary, is on CD or an attractive white vinyl 2LP set.

Gang of Four
Entertainment!

Entertainment was the the debut album by Leeds post-punk band Gang Of Four. It was originally released in 1979. The band incorporated elements of funk, dub and reggae into their choppy and angular punk sound. Features the tracks Damaged Goods, At Home He's A Tourist and I Found That Essence Rare.

Paul Weller
Stanley Road

I don't know which Paul Weller album this is. It doesn't really matter. If you like him you'll be interested in getting it on vinyl. Whether you can afford the £32.99 asking price is another matter. The music industry screwed itself up in the past by charging £16 for CDs that cost pennies to make. Looks like they are off the same way with vinyl. Obviously this format is more expensive to produce so a higher retail price is understandable but this is really taking the piss especially when there are no extras and nothing deluxe.

Charles Mingus
The Black Saint and The Sinner Lady

Charles Mingus and company conjured magic on 20th January 1963. The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady is a composed piece spread over six parts, with occasional blasts of full-ensemble free improvisation. Still sounds mind-blowing all these years later - a true original at the intersection of jazz and folk.

Teenage Fanclub
Shadows

Here they come those canny little jumper boys. Each Teenage Fanclub album has it's own form of slow burn, gently insidious glory and 2010's Shadows is no different. Featuring the usual four songs a piece from Norman Blake, Gerard Love and Raymond McGinley it is further proof as to why these guys are justly lauded as such reliable songsmiths. This re-issue comes with a bonus 7" of rare tracks. Put on your comfiest jumper and dive in.

Augustus Pablo
Dubbing With The Don

Dubbing with the Don is a collection of recordings from the 1970s by dub legend Augustus Pablo. The tunes here have been released before but not these particular dub versions, which are rare and have been lifted straight from the original masters. CD features bonus track ‘Keep Skanking On Dub’.

King Tubby's
Lost Treasures

Dub originator and all-round maestro producer King Tubby has a deep and voluminous archive of material, and Lost Treasures pulls out several under-heard highlights to give them further attention. This collection features Tubby dubs of an amazing array of Jamaica’s finest, making it essential as an alternative reggae history. Out on Jamaican Recordings.

Johnny Thunders & Wayne Kramer
Gang War!

Just imagine how many drugs were flying about during this collaboration between Jounny Thunder and Wayne Kramer  - the guitarists from New York Dolls and MC5 respectively. Between all the sniffin', snortin' and injectin' the duo made a unique racket which on this re-issue comes with 5 bonus tracks recorded at New York's legendary Max's.

Ofege
How Do You Feel

Ofege began in early 1970s Nigeria smitten by the twiddly likes of Santana and Jeff Beck. How Do You feel was their fourth album originally released in 1978 and was seen as the high point in their career cementing their West African psych funk sound but blending it with reggae and disco. They have gained increased exposure over the years through appearances on compilations so this luxury re-issue of this Afrobeat classic is rather timely.

Tom Waits
Closing Time

Closing Time was where it all began for Tom Waits, arguably the greatest cult artist in the history of popular music. Released in 1973, Waits didn’t yet possess his legendarily gruff vocal delivery, his approach more honeyed and traditional on immortal tracks like ‘Ol’ 55’ and the aching ‘Martha’.

Tom Waits
Mule Variations

Mule Variations, whilst being typical of Tom Waits later work -- mixing experimental sounds, stomping percussion, jazz and beautiful songwriting, is also a high watermark in his career. Notable tracks include the mournful ballad "Georgia Lee", the creepy and original "What’s He Building In There?" and the gravel-edged blues of "Chocolate Jesus". Essential 180g Vinyl reissue on Anti.

Popol Vuh
Spirit Of Peace

Popol Vuh’s Spirit Of Peace was used in part by Werner Herzog as the soundtrack to his The Dark Glow Of The Mountains, where it's gorgeous sense of spiritual yearning fitted the picture well. And yet this rich album has been out of print since its 1985 release! Thankfully One Way Static have produced a double vinyl reissue edition, which comes with extra bonus tracks. Edition of 700.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Kicking Against The Pricks

New vinyl reissue of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' classic all-covers album from 1986. It includes classic covers such as 'By The Time I Get To Phoenix', 'All Tomorrows Parties', 'The Singer' and 'Black Betty'. Over the years, Cave has downplayed the importance of this album, but has since admitted to its influence on the diversity of the Bad Seeds' subsequent song writing.

New Order
Power, Corruption and Lies (Definitive Edition)

New Order scour the vaults once again to bring us the ‘Definitive Edition’ of their 1983 masterpiece Power, Corruption & Lies. As well as the album itself being re-mastered and pressed to vinyl, this lavish box set includes two CDs containing unreleased writing session material and the band’s 1982 John Peel session, two DVDs capturing New Order live at The Hacienda and Kilkenny, their 1984 Play At Home documentary film, and a 48-page hardback book of rare photos and new essays.

Killing Joke
Killing Joke

A fortieth anniversary reissue for the eponymous debut studio LP from English post-punk icons Killing Joke. Featuring early signature hit ‘Wardance’ and ‘The Wait’ - the latter of which was covered some years later by Metallica - 'Killing Joke' comes with gatefold artwork recreated by original designer Mike Coles. Killing Joke
Pandemonium

Representing a successful comeback after a brief hiatus, 1994’s 'Pandemonium' became the best-selling album in Killing Joke’s catalogue. Featuring vocal takes recorded inside the Great Pyramid of Giza (!), the record included the hit singles ‘Pandemonium’ and ‘Millennium’ alongside some meaty riffage ala Deftones.

Tears For Fears
The Seeds Of Love

The Seeds of Love was the third album by Tears For Fears. It was originally released in 1989. It saw the duo of Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith and friends go for it production-wise with the epic Beatles-esque single Sowing The Seeds of Love. They also mined soul and jazz influences. Another single, Woman In Chains featured the then unknown Oleta Adams, who went on to have a successful solo career. Also includes the singles Advice for the Young at Heart and Badman’s song. Reissued in a variety of formats.

Killing Joke
The Singles Collection 1979 - 2012

A four-disc box set containing thirty-three tracks, 'The Singles Collection 1979-2012' represents the first time that all of the singles from English post-punk figureheads Killing Joke have been pressed to LP. Features the group’s signature tracks ‘Wardance’, ‘Love Like Blood’ and ‘Pandemonium’. James Murphy loves them, y'know.

Nouvelle Vague
Nouvelle Vague

Nouvelle Vague - a name best said in the voice of the continuity announcer from ‘Spongebob Squarepants’. The whole pop-songs-in-a-laid-back-stylee schtick is pretty common in the YouTube age, but back in 2006 Nouvelle Vague’s choice to cover tracks by Joy Division, The Clash and The Cure in a sultry lounge-jazz/bossa-nova style was charmingly novel. The project’s eponymous LP still sounds cracking all these years on, which is surely the reason behind this Kwaidan Records reissue.

DJ Shadow
The Private Press

After basically completing sampledelia with 1996 debut album ‘Endtroducing…’ DJ Shadow took his sweet time over the follow-up - ‘The Private Press’, his sophomore LP, arrived a full six years later. On this record the plunderphonics came out to play once more, but Shadow also introduced an air of dystopian menace that has only grown stronger in his subsequent releases. The genesis of Oneohtrix Point Never, Flying Lotus and Iglooghost can all be heard if you listen closely.

Beck
Sea Change

Beck’s 2002 album Sea Change marked something of a sea change (yeah we went there) for Beck’s own practice. There is much less in the way of sampling and cool-cat irony, and rather more in the way of sincere emotion. Plus, live-instrument tracks that engage with the smooth heartbreaky sounds of country rock. Double LP reissue on Geffen.

Richard & Linda Thompson
I Want To See The Bright Lights

Given its reputation as a beloved British folk rock totem, it’s easy to forget that I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight, the first of six albums that Richard Thompson recorded with his then-wife Linda Thompson, was practically ignored upon release in 1974. It’s now re-issued by Island on heavyweight vinyl.

Mazzy Star
So Tonight That I Might See

This is a much needed re-issue of the second album from David Roback and Hope Sandoval's dream pop/slowcore band. Originally released in 1993 this contained their superhit 'Fade Into You' which peaked at no 44 in the hot 100. One of those albums that gained momentum this is a fine addition to their small but perfectly formed set of records,

DJ Shadow
Endtroducing.....

DJ Shadow’s sample-built 1996 debut album Entroducing….. has all the drama you’d expect from a title with ellipses two-thirds longer than the standard. As tense as it slaps, this is truly one of the the best instrumental trip/hip-hop albums ever made. The deluxe edition comes with expanded liner notes, photos, alternate versions, and remixes from the likes of Kuedo and Teklife.

John Coltrane
Ballads

Ballads was a 1961 era album by John Coltrane on which he worked with the quartet of McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones. The band hadn't played the songs prior to recording giving the album a loose, spontaneous feel. It saw Coltrane softening his sound after some of his more out there material and here comes on 180g vinyl mastered from the original tapes.

The Viceroys
We Must Unite

Known also as The Interns, The Brothers, and The Hot Tops since their foundation the mid-60s, the first album released under this group's best-known moniker The Viceroys was 1982’s 'We Must Unite'. Produced by Linval Thompson and housing the excellent ‘Rise In The Strength Of Jah’, 'We Must Unite' is a rootsy, rocksteady delight.

Watch Me Kill You is an LP for which demand far outstripped supply: it’s been impossible to get hold of for quite some time. Cleveland Confidential

Just trying to imagine Cleveland OH circa 1980 brings a haze of industrial grey to mind yet it was in this depressed city that some of the best clanking post-punk emerged. Cleveland Confidential compiled the best rarely heard bits  - these unknown names taking their influence from fellow Rust Belt dwellers Pere Ubu and Dead Boys amongst others. An essential document of a particular time and place.

Thee Oh Sees
Grave Blockers

You’re thinking how on earth do Thee Oh Sees manage to put so many new records out, right? Well, in the case of this one it’s a reissue. Grave Blockers was originally released in 2006 and sees John Dwyer et al in a gentler mood, playing some psych-folk rather than the unhinged garage rock to which we’ve become accustomed.

Alain Goraguer
La Planete Sauvage - Original Soundtrack

Long renowned as one of the most dazzling and original animated films to burst forth from the European quarter, Its soundtrack is actually as celebrated as the beloved film from 1973, Re-issued on wax by J Saul Kane's DC recordings around the Millennium and again a few years back, this is the latest definitive version from crate diggers extraordinaire Superior Viaduct. This OST is a wicked, groovesome soupçon of styles with the emphasis on funk, orchestral and astral tones to create a true 70's space-face classic. Sampled to hell for generations, make sure you bag this if you've not indulged previously. In this age of lavish soundtrack fetishism, there's a handful that truly ARE indispensible and work as well away from the movie as with it.

Vels Trio
Yellow Ochre

A reissue of 'Yellow Ochre' here, the breakthrough EP from British jazz-fusion outfit Vels Trio. Originally released in 2014 and boasting a guest spot from scene figurehead Shabaka Hutchings - an artist whose work has clearly influenced Vels Trio's approach - 'Yellow Ochre' is presented here with an additional remix of ‘Yellow Ochre pt.1’ by Footshooter.

S. Carey
All We Grow (Ten Year Anniversary Edition)

Classically-trained percussionist S. Carey is now relatively well-known as a solo artist, but before he released his debut solo album 'All We Grow' in 2010 he was recognisable as the percussionist and backing vocalist in the Bon Iver live band. 'All We Grow' exists in a similar world to much of Justin Vernon’s work due to its fragile, beautiful melodies and lush harmonies, but there are nods to Mark Hollis and percussive elements that call to mind Steve Reich.

Pulp
Separations

Separations was Pulp's 1992 era pre success album and their second full length after 1987's Freaks. The first half of the record is a sort of fledgling version of what you might expect from the Common People hitmakers while the B side dabbles in acid house and electronica. It took them a while to reach mainstream success but Separations was another of their stopping off points on their way to glory.

Kings Of Leon
Aha Shake Heartbreak

I once compared Kings of Leon to Blueshammer from the film Ghost World yet they have since become one of the world's biggest bands so who is laughing now eh? This is their second album from 2004 and preceded their incredible, unprecedented fame. The album scored a healthy 7.4 on Metacritic which surely is enough to get you rushing out to buy this re-issue.

Bruce Springsteen
Nebraska

Following the commercial and critical respect afforded to The River, particularly the chart success of ‘Hungry Heart’, Bruce Springsteen wrong-footed everybody with the slate-grey and downbeat Nebraska in 1982. Recorded as 4-track demos with the intention of recording them with the E Street Band, The Boss had a change of heart and decided to release them in their skeletal forms. One of the most surprising acts by a star on a major label in pop history.

Jóhann Jóhannsson
Fordlândia

Fordlândia is one of Jóhann Jóhannsson's lesser known works having only been available in a limited pressing.  The title references Henry Ford's disastrous rubber plantation (there's a good name for a band by the way) which he abandoned in the mid '20s. The music is a typically gorgeous mesh of electronics and orchestral sounds that seem at times disparate but come together as the two separate themes merge into one.

Bert Jansch
Avocet (Expanded Anniversary Edition)

A luxury re-issue of what some regard to be Bert Jansch's best work. Avocet was initially released in 1979 and is a gorgeous instrumental album inspired by British birds. It shifts his brilliant, twisting guitar playing away from traditional folk and more towards a kind of proto neo-classical sound. This 40th anniversary edition comes with bonus tracks and writings by collaborator Danny Thompson.

The Fall
Your Future Our Clutter

'Your Future Our Clutter' is The Fall's twenty-seventh(!) studio album, and their first for indie imprint Domino. It's a fan-favourite, and is regularly considered as their best from the 2010s. Recorded in Yorkshire and Liverpool, it sees their trademark repetitive, garage rock influenced post-punk meet experimental and electronic flourishes. Definitely an unsung classic from the cult Salford group.

Autechre
Amber

Warp's Autechre re-issue series continues with this their first proper full length album (the earlier Incunabula was in fact a compilation of demos). This one contains some of their most ambient moments as well as forging forward the cut and paste beats and deep acid and techno hinted at on Incunabula. Essential re-press.

The Divine Comedy
Victory for the Comic Muse

Originally released in 2006, Victory For The Comic Muse was the ninth studio album by Neil Hannon’s The Divine Comedy, unique in their catalogue as it was recorded in a little over a fortnight almost entirely from live studio takes and with minimal overdubbing. It gets a remastered re-issue as part of the band’s 30th anniversary celebrations, with the CD edition including a bonus disc of B-sides, demos and alternate takes.

The Divine Comedy
Fin de Siècle

Originally released in 1998, Fin De Siècle was the sixth studio album by Neil Hannon’s The Divine Comedy, which spawned the band’s sole UK Top Ten hit ‘National Express’. It now gets a remastered re-issue as part of the band’s 30th anniversary celebrations, with the CD edition including a bonus disc of B-sides, demos and alternate takes.

The Divine Comedy
Casanova

Originally released in 1997, Casanova was the commercial breakthrough for Neil Hannon’s The Divine Comedy, housing three UK Top 30 hit singles including ‘Something For The Weekend’.  It now gets a re-issue as part of the band’s 30th anniversary celebrations, with the CD edition including a bonus disc of B-sides, demos and alternate takes.

The Divine Comedy
Absent Friends

Originally released in 2004 and containing the Lauren Laverne-starring ‘Come Home Billy Bird’, Neil Hannon’s eighth The Divine Comedy album gets a re-issue as part of the band’s 30th anniversary celebrations. CD edition comes with a bonus disc of B-sides, demos and alternate takes.

The Divine Comedy
A Short Album About Love

Originally conceived as a companion to the previous year’s Casanova album and recorded with a 26-piece orchestra post-soundcheck before a show at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire, A Short Album About Love went on to be regarded by many as The Divine Comedy’s finest hour. It now gets a re-mastered re-issue on vinyl and CD, with the latter coming with a bonus disc of B-sides, demos and alternate takes plus a DVD titled A Short Film About A Short Album About Love.

The Divine Comedy
Bang Goes The Knighthood

Probably the best of the latterday the Divine Comedy albums, Bang Goes the Knighthood features everything we love about Neil Hannon's music - soaring melodies, beautiful arrangements and a droll lyrical persona. The difference between this and some other the Divine Comedy albums is that it is consistent from start to finish. All killer and an accomplished work from a master craftsman.

Fela Kuti & Afrika 70
No Agreement

There's at least one of our customers who should be happy about all these Fela Kuti re-issues... the guy who asked me all about how he could get hold of rare Fela Kuti stuff about six months ago. Whether or not this is you then you should be excited to learn that Kuti's No Agreement is now available as a single vinyl having previously only part of the box set series. Gene
Libertine

'Libertine' was the final album by Britpop collective Gene. The band were most well-known for taking on the sound previously championed by the Smiths, and although they painstakingly removed some elements of originality and passion from the template Gene have arguably aged much better due to boasting a singer who hasn't become a kind of musical Jim Davidson in the intervening years. This is a 2xLP reissue on Demon.

Gene
Revelations

'Revelations' was the third album by Gene, originally released in 1999. Fronted by Martin Rossiter and aided by guitarist Steve Mason, the band were influenced by the likes of The Smiths, The Clash, The Jam and The Faces. It opens with the relatively poppy single 'As Good As It Gets' and also includes the single 'Fill Her Up'. Reissue LP on Demon.

Gene
Drawn To The Deep End

'Drawn To The Deep End' was the second studio album by Gene. It was originally released in 1997. The record contained the singles 'Fighting Fit', 'Speak To Me Someone' and 'Where Are They Now'. 'Drawn To The Deep End' is a charge of raw Britpop emotion delivered in Martin Rossiter’s Morrissey-esque vocal stylings.

Gene
To See The Lights

'To See The Lights' was the second album by Gene, released in 1996. Although this is a compilation album, it is still regarded as a necessary piece in the band’s catalogue. Gene
Olympian

Gene were mid-90s NME darlings who were massively influenced by The Smiths - something evidenced by Martin Rossiter’s vocals and their album artwork. Tangerine Dream
The Sessions II

Sessions II by Tangerine Dream sees the band harking back to their ‘70s heyday when their live shows consisted mainly of improvisation. Their shows, once again, contain a segment of improvised music. These improvisations are being clipped from the live shows and released under the banner of Sessions.

Peter Tevis / Ennio Morricone
Pastures Of Plenty

This record actually exists - this version of Pastures of Plenty was previously just the stuff of myth and legend. Written by Woody Guthrie in the ‘40s, this Ennio Morricone arrangement was recorded by Rome-based US folkie Pete Tevis in 1962. The music was later used, with a different melody, for Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars. A legendary sound was born. This is the first time it's been pressed since 1962.

Kraftwerk
The Studio Albums: Colour Vinyl Bundle

Sold out - sorry!

The Times
Red With Purple Flashes

A re-issue on 7” vinyl for ‘Red With Purple Flashes’, the debut single from Edward Ball’s acclaimed cult band The Times, originally released in 1981 on Dan Treacy’s Whaam! label which now changes hands for eye-watering sums of money. Boasting the original Warhol spoof artwork, it’s a classic piece of the kind of Sixties revivalism that became popular in the Eighties.

Nina Simone
Pastel Blues

'Pastel Blues' by Nina Simone was originally released in 1965. The most notable tracks bookend the LP - opener ‘Be My Husband’, sparsely produced with just voice, handclaps and hi-hat, and the classic closing track ‘Sinnerman’. Alicia Keys counts 'Pastel Blues' among her favourite ever albums, and I'll wager she's not the only one.

Nina Simone
I Put A Spell On You

'I Put A Spell On You', by - of course - Nina Simone, was released in 1965, just four months before her next album 'Pastel Blues'. This LP is packed with Nina Simone classics, such as the title track (her version of the Screaming Jay Hawkins classic) and one of her most famous songs, ‘Feeling Good’. Seriously, who doesn't love this record?

Iggy & The Stooges
You Think You’re Bad, Man? The Road Tapes ’73-’74

'You Think You’re Bad, Man? The Road Tapes ’73-’74' by Iggy and the Stooges is a big collection of live material. It charts the final year of the band as they toured their classic third album 'Raw Power'. Among the high-energy recordings is the final show - well, final until their brief reformation in 2003 - which was a drunken, violent and intimidating affair. 'You Think You’re Bad, Man? The Road Tapes ’73-’74' features sleeve notes by music journalist Kris Needs.

Craig Kupka
Crystals: New Music for Relaxation 2

We all need something to relax us in these terrifying times and in the absence of readily available heroin why not turn to this archival release by Craig Kupka. This contains two longform compositions featuring (wait for it) trombone and synthesizer. These unlikely bedfellows create a meditative sound that found favour in relaxation classes.

Japan
Gentlemen Take Polaroids

David Sylvian fronted new wave synth-pop outfit Japan’s fourth studio album Gentlemen Take Polaroids was originally released on Virgin in 1980, and was their first album with the label. This half-speed mastered reissue is available as a single LP as per the original, or a 2LP edition cut at 45 RPM. Defining avant-synth-pop in hi-def.

Jóhann Jóhannsson

Revered Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson sadly passed away in 2018. 'Retrospective II', which follows on from 2019's 'Retrospective', includes Jóhannsson's soundtracks for 'Sicario', 'Arrival' and 'The Theory of Everything' along with collaborations with Vikingur Ólafsson, Ryuichi Sakamoto and A Winged Victory For The Sullen. Also featured in addition to 'Retrospective II's eight (yes eight) CDs is a DVD which covers Jóhannsson's December 2016 concert at Berlin's Funkhaus.

Sonic Youth
Rather Ripped

And yea, verily, ‘twas a rather ripped time in the kingdom. ‘Rather Ripped’ is regarded by many as Sonic Youth's late-period masterpiece. First released in 2006, this was the group’s first record without Jim O'Rourke since he’d joined the band in the late-90s. Shrinking to a four-piece allowed Sonic Youth to refocus their sound, and the result is an album of taut, grungey alternativa that can stand up to the likes of ‘Daydream Nation’, ‘Goo’ and ‘Dirty’.

Bright Eyes
I'm Wide Awake It's Morning

Bright Eyes released two albums on the same day back in 2005. Those were 'Digital Ash in a Digital Urn' and this one. Conor Oberst is very much from the Elliott Smith school of depressing songwriters who are neither straight up indie nor proper folk. He puts a lot of emotion in his voice which can either melt hearts of his fans or irritate the naysayers. Either way, this one is his most popular and acclaimed album that longtime fans still adore to this day.

Quiet Village

A re-issue of Quiet Village, the eighth studio album from the father of exotica, Martin Denny. Thelonious Monk
Les Liaisons Dangereuses 1960

Languish in the fabulous music that Thelonious Monk recorded in 1959 for the movie Les Liaisons Dangereuses. The audio has never been officially released in its own right until now, but the high quality of this double CD release makes up for that colossal delay. Comes with a sixty-page booklet, packed with exclusive photos and liner notes. On Sam Records.

Snail Mail
Habit

Matador are the ones who stump up for a re-press of Snail Mail’s 2016 debut EP Habit. Anyone who’s heard the thing (or subsequent Snail Mail releases) can already attest to its charm. For newcomers - this is thoughtful, friendly punk of the Frankie Cosmos school. This new pressing of Habit features Snail Mail’s cover of ‘The 2nd Most Beautiful Girl In The World’ by Courtney Love (the K Records band, not the Hole singer).

Beach House
Devotion

Devotion was our second drift intro the world of Beach House. The Baltimore duo had already gained a healthy fanbase for their self titled debut and this one did more of the same thankfully. It contains eleven slo-mo pop moments full of reverb drenched organs and slide guitar. A perfect dream date for fans of Mazzy Star, Galaxie 500 or Mojave 3.

Camera Obscura
My Maudlin Career

My Maudlin Career was the fourth (and to date penultimate) album by Scottish pop people Camera Obscura originally released in 2009.  Their cinematic Northern Soul-influenced indie-pop has only gained traction in the intervening years and following the tragic death of founding member Carey Lander, the band have tentatively started to play shows again. What better time then for a re-issue.

Orange 9mm
Tragic

1996’s 'Tragic' saw Orange 9mm dropping their post-hardcore sound in favour of a rap-metal style in the vein of Rage Against The Machine or Red Hot Chilli Peppers. It was originally released on Atlantic in 1996, and throughout the decade they toured with the likes of Korn, Deftones, Biohazard and Helmet. This twenty-fifth anniversary version of 'Tragic' sees the LP being released on vinyl for the first time.

Waxahatchee
Cerulean Salt

Waxahatchee re-emerges as a full on indie rock star on Cerulean Salt, crafting songs with small flourishes and delicate melodies that work around a proper band structure. The same emotions of relationship grief resonate as did on the sparse American Weekend, but this record shows a maturer and more precise songwriter.

This Is The Kit
Krulle Bol

This bloody well Is The Kit you know, so you’d better pay attention - we’re only going to go through this once. Krülle Bol is the debut LP from Kate Stables’ project. It was originally released as a limited run in 2007, Disco-Ordination have now snapped up Krülle Bol for a second pressing. The dozen tracks here flit between gutsy folk and spare, shimmering rock, all of which gives the album a bit of a Beans On Toast vibe. Got that?

A quick in-and-out jazz standard, this one.

Ze Roberto
Lotus 72 D

And there’s this Norman Records™ keyboard cat thinking that the Zé Roberto we were dealing with was the former Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Brazil footballer. More fool me. Anyway, the Z-Rob in question is another Brazilian who made one LP and a few singles in the 70’s. 1973’s ‘Lotus 72 D’, a tribute to champion Formula 1 driver Emerson Fittipaldi, is a strutting samba-funk number that has been subject to renewed interest since its inclusion on the 2001 compilation Via Brazil. On that album it was pitched up in what became known as the ‘Fast Version’, something Mr. Bongo have included on this 7” alongside the original.

The La's
1986-1987- Callin' All

The story of The La’s is one of mercurial talent and missed opportunities, yet the mythology around the group’s very small recorded output has always been strong. 1986-1987 - Callin’ All was the second of the Lost La’s compilations, released in 2001 and laid out the recordings that the band’s leader Lee Mavers has always said came closest to capturing his vision for music. It’s now given a re-issue on vinyl, with new cover art and sleeve notes.

'Tales From A Thousand Lakes' is the critically acclaimed second album from Finnish death metal band Amorphis.
