Bob Marley & The Wailers

One of the biggest-selling albums the world has ever known, 1984’s superlative compilation 'Legend' tracked the finest work from Bob Marley & The Wailers, dating back to their debut on Island Records just over a decade earlier. Now remastered using half-speed cutting techniques, 'Legend' reappears on vinyl to conquer the world anew. Hits hits hits.

Bob Marley & The Wailers
Uprising

The final album released in his lifetime, 1980’s 'Uprising' directly spoke to Bob Marley’s Rastafarian beliefs in nearly every song, culminating in the beautiful acoustic closer ‘Redemption Song’. A poignant and spiritual experience which saw Marley backed once more by his Wailers, the LP is now remastered with half-speed cutting techniques for reissue on vinyl.

Bob Marley & The Wailers
Survival

An urgent, politically militant album calling for Pan-African solidarity, 1979’s 'Survival' was a direct reaction to the criticism levelled from some quarters at its laid-back predecessor 'Kaya'. One of the less appreciated entries in the Bob Marley & The Wailers’ catalogue, the album is now remastered with half-speed cutting techniques for reissue on vinyl. An underrated reggae tome.

Bob Marley & The Wailers
Kaya

A turn away from the political stridency of previous albums, 1978’s 'Kaya' was the most spiritual and philosophical album that Bob Marley & The Wailers ever released. Containing some incredibly famous Marley songs in ‘Sun Is Shining’, ‘Is This Love’ and ‘Satisfy My Soul’, it continued the band’s trajectory of success. This half-speed remaster does 'Kaya's original mix even greater justice.

Bob Marley & The Wailers
Babylon By Bus

Recorded largely over the course of three nights at Pavillon de Paris in June 1978 during the tour for 'Kaya' - so pretty much at the height of their global fame - Babylon By Bus captures Bob Marley & The Wailers at the peak of their reggae-fusion powers. The double live album now gets remastered using half-speed cutting techniques for this reissue.

Bob Marley & The Wailers
Exodus

The album that incontrovertibly transformed Bob Marley & The Wailers to international superstardom, 1977’s 'Exodus' gets a half-speed remastered reissue on vinyl. Bob Marley & The Wailers
Rastaman Vibration

A half-speed reissue of 1976’s 'Rastaman Vibration', which became the first album from Bob Marley & The Wailers to penetrate the top ten of the US Billboard charts. Housing the US hit ‘Roots, Rock, Reggae’, it saw Marley gracefully carry a heavy artistic burden on his shoulders, acting as reggae music’s international poster boy at the same time as broadcasting awareness of the injustices suffered by disadvantaged communities across the globe. Of course, he brought it all together with aplomb.

Bob Marley & The Wailers
Live!

Recorded at the band’s incendiary live gig at London’s Lyceum Theatre in July of 1975, 'Live!' saw Bob Marley & The Wailers in their element. Containing the definitive, universally-known version of ‘No Woman, No Cry’, it’s always been lauded as one of the greatest live albums of all time, and now is reissued on vinyl having been remastered using half-speed cutting techniques.

A half-speed remaster of 1973’s 'Burnin’' from The Wailers and their iconic leader Bob Marley. The was the last LP made by Bob and his backing band before the group’s powerhouses Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer departed to pursue solo careers. Housing a pair of Marley’s signature songs in ‘Get Up, Stand Up’ and ‘I Shot The Sheriff’, the album was later added to the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry for its historical and cultural significance - not bad!

Groovin Recordings official reissue of this sought after, all-time classic NYC house gem from Bobby Konders. Originally issued as a single 12" in 1990 on the legendary Nu Groove imprint, these tracks are now spread across two slabs of vinyl and cut at 45 rpm for optimized DJ use. Teebs
Ardour

If you told me that Teebs' 'Ardour' album was ten years old I'd say something like "... I literally thought it came out last year". Teebs is the project of ex-skater Mtendere Mandowa, a chap who makes music right up the street of anyone with an interest in the Brainfeeder label. Warm beats, deeply atmospheric, hip-hop-leaning stuff. This tenth-anniversary edition comes with six tracks not on the original pressing of 'Ardour'.

Mikis Theodorakis
Serpico (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Record Store Day edition of Mikis Theodorakis’ score to Sidney Lumet’s 1973 neo-noir crime drama 'Serpico', starring a certain Al Pacino in one of his most famous roles. Composed by Theodorakis and arranged by jazz pianist Bob James, the score blends classic orchestral film-scoring with Mediterranean folk sounds and 70s cop-drama funk to enthralling effect.

Lee Fields
Let's Get A Groove On

After a few less satisfying releases, Let's Get A Groove On was the moment Lee Fields made the kind of authentic, retro sounding funk record that truly suited his remarkable voice. Fields could be compared to late '60s James Brown and he was blatantly derivative in influence but that didn't stop Let's Get A Groove On being one of 1999s best soul and funk albums.

Don Cherry
Cherry Jam

There's nothing like jazz records for coming up with tremendous puns or wordplay for album titles. Don Cherry's Cherry Jam is another example but it's also notable for containing four previously unreleased Cherry jams recorded in 1965 from the trumpeteer and father of Neneh. AAA pressing (it says here) from the original tapes. 2000 copies hand numbered.

The Flaming Lips
In A Priest Driven Ambulance

It's sometimes hard to recall when they are rolling round in oversized hamster balls and hanging round with Miley Cyrus that the Flaming Lips were once an incredible band. That's band not sideshow. In a Priest Driven Ambulance was their fourth album originally released in 1990 and features Jonathan Donahue (Mercury Rev) helping Wayne Coyne out with his skewed psychedelic vision.

Talking Heads
Fear of Music

Nowadays 1979’s ‘Fear Of Music’ is largely remembered as the Talking Heads album with ‘Life During Wartime’ and ‘Heaven’ on it -  probably something to do with the fact that they are the only two songs from the record that made it into 1984’s ‘Stop Making Sense’ (though ‘Cities’ was included in the extended version of the film). This legacy does ‘Fear Of Music’ a great disservice - sure, those are both absolutely top tracks, but the whole album really is a triumph of the airless agit-funk style that the group had lasered in on throughout 1977’s ‘77’ and 1978’s ‘More Songs About Buildings And Food’. It also bridged the gap between those LPs and the transcendent polyrhythms of 1980's ‘Remain In Light’. This is Talking Heads at their most frantic, paranoid and couched, an effect heightened by Brian Eno’s daring production. The frenzied ecstasies of ‘I Zimbra’, ‘Animals’, ‘Memories Can't Wait’ etc. are pretty much unparalleled in the post-punk era.

Talking Heads
More Songs About Buildings And Food

More Songs About Buildings And Food was the second Talking Heads album, originally released in 1978 and the first to feature Brian Eno in the production chair. Eno was a perfect fit for Talking Heads, teasing out of them a more dance and funk inspired sound with the rhythm section of Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth taking a keener role behind David Byrne's trademark yelp.

LCD Soundsystem
LCD Soundsystem

A re-issue (though not approved by the band) of LCD Soundsystem's debut LP from back in 2005. This is the one that contains the now classic 'Daft Punk Is Playing In My House' and first shot the magpie like enthusiasm of James Murphy's disco and post punk influenced production on to an unsuspecting but ready to dance world.

Kraftwerk
Tour de France

Tour De France was a 2003 album by Kraftwerk made to celebrate the centenary of the bicycle race of the same name. It contains a brand new version of their 1983 single of the same name as well as a host of other compositions. The track was initially made due to the bands increasing interest in cycling prompted by Ralf Hutter. The new version and accompanying album form part of the last 'new' material heard from the band to date.

Jónsi
Go

Jonsi is the one from Sigur Ros and Go was his first solo album originally released in 2010. The album is notable for having string arrangements from Nico Muhly and being more acoustic and song-based than the rather grandiose Sigur Ros material. Ten years after the event it gets a red vinyl re-issue on Krunk to tie in with his new album Shiver.

Lou Reed
New York (Deluxe Edition)

Extra tracks include early versions of album tracks as well as some live classics. The DVD features The New York Album - a concert film of Lou Reed performing the album in its entirety, originally released on laserdisc in 1990. Massive Attack
Blue Lines

Ah 'Blue Lines'. That time hip-hop, reggae, R&B, and soul all together under the mysterious cinematic umbrella of Massive Attack. The first time their special blend of breakbeats, sampling and rapping was heard and it's presence is still being felt 25+ years on. The usual guests are in place, Horace Andy, Tricky, Neneh Cherry and of course Shara Nelson on the stone cold classic 'Unfinished Sympathy'.

The Future Sound Of London
Lifeforms

It's excellent to see such a seminal work still deserving reissue treatment. Future Sound of London's 1994 masterpiece is a timeless collage of synthesised and environmental sounds, standing at the centre of the duo's vast contribution to electronic music history. If you don't already own it, time to make a change.

Nick Drake
Bryter Layter

Bryter Layter should obviously be in your record collection, and luckily you don’t have to spend £1,000,000 on a crackly old dog of a copy anymore. Island have faithfully remastered and reissued this beautiful thing from the (almost) original master tapes, and packaged it so it’s just like how your Dad would have bought it back in the day.

Jamie T
Panic Prevention

As 2006 turned into 2007 people were coming to terms with the fact that The Libertines weren’t getting back together any time soon, The Streets would never make another album as good as Original Pirate Material again and Lily Allen was now a thing. Enter Jamie T and his debut LP Panic Prevention, an LP that saw the cheeky Londoner serving a sound that kind of amalgamated all the above and threw in a dash of Billy Bragg's earthy people’s-poet pizzaz for good measure. Hits like ‘Sheila’ and ‘If You Got The Money’ ensured that Jamie Alexander Treays would be a fixture of festival lineups for many years to come.

Nick Drake
Five Leaves Left

Five Leaves Left was Nick Drake's debut LP on Island and probably counts as one of the most autumnal records ever made. It's understated and hushed take on folk music was not a hit at the time but slowly over the years it found an audience of like minded sensitive souls. Notable for Robert Kirby's brilliant string arrangements, this is a gorgeous work not to be missed.

Elliott Smith
Figure 8

Shabby and shambling of appearance, Elliott Smith's look matched his songs in his earlier records. He was he weird loner who would win the race because he was so damn good. On Figure 8 they airbrushed both his face and his sound making a slick and polished record that saw those loveable rough edges smoothed away. Still they couldn't completely ruin Elliott Smith and Figure 8 features many examples of his the Beatles-esque prowess with a haunted melody. "I'm the wrong kind of person to famous" he once said and it's true  - we loved him just the way he was.

Talk Talk
Laughing Stock

The final album from a band who evolved from synth-pop into intricate, unbelievably delicate avant-jazz compostion. This reissue comes 26 years after the original release but the music hasn't aged a bit. 'Ascension Day' churns and whirrs whilst 'New Grass' tugs the heart strings just as strongly as before. Absolutely essential.

Aix Em Klemm
Aix Em Klemm

Aix Em Klemm represents an ambient music side-project from Stars Of The Lid and A Winged Victory For The Sullen’s Adam Wiltzie and Labradford’s Robert Donne, dating back to the mid-Nineties when the two groups toured together. Beginning life as a tape exchange project, the music gradually mutated into their self-titled debut album Aix Em Klemm, released in 2000 and now re-issued on vinyl.

Yung Lean
Unknown Memory

Melancholic hip-hop with a leftfield twist from eighteen year old Yung Lean. Debut album Unknown Memory blends off-kilter autotuning and sombre synths, all wrapped up in a distinctly digital aesthetic that could have only come out of the Youtube generation. Dark as a Swedish winter.

Sowas Von Egal: German Synth Wave Underground 1980-1985

The excellent Hamburg-based label Bureau B have unearthed more rare synth gems, to compile: Sowas Von Egal: German Synth Wave Underground 1980-1985. Not your typical '80s synth comp; this collaboration with the Damaged Goods party DJs has brought to light some remarkable, seldom heard music  ranging from post punk and synth wave -- all originally released in very small quantities, often by the bands themselves and sold at their gigs -- all pressed in the first half of the 1980s. Available as an LP or on shiny new CD.

Stars Of The Lid
Gravitational Pull vs The Desire for an Aquatic Life

Gravitational Pull vs. the Desire for an Aquatic Life is, I have to say, a pretty fantastically appropriate title for a Stars of the Lid album. Captures the elemental, slow-moving feel of their drone compositions, not to mention their profound beauty. This is their second album, from 1996, on Kranky Records.

The Breeders
Last Splash

Though the more discerning the Breeders fan may prefer tight and angular debut Pod, there's no arguing against the quality and commercial appeal of their second LP Last Splash. It was preceded by a line up shift that saw Tanya Donelly depart and a second Deal sister Kelley arrive. The change in the band's sound was marked with their unusual time signatures and quirky songwriting getting a more widescreen production treatment. You'll know lead single Cannonball but this is a quality album throughout.

Stereolab
Peng!

Peng! Was the debut album by Stereolab. It was originally released in 1992. It featured all the hallmarks of their sound which was driven by rhythm guitar, vintage keyboards, a motorik beat and Laetitia Sadier’s part-Nico-part-ethereal vocals. They were influenced as much by the sunshine pop of The Free Design as the were the experimental rock of Can. This is good place to start with the ‘lab, as well as being a cracker, you can see how their sound progresses from here, album by album.

The Cribs
Mens Needs, Womens Needs, Whatever

We are ten years on from the release of The Cribs’ album Mens Needs, Womens Needs, Whatever: can you believe it? Wichita can, and that’s why they are reissuing it now, remedying the record’s out-of-print status at last. One of the finer albums to emerge from the indie explosion of the time, this slice of Cribs still sounds special today. LP reissue.

Throwing Muses
Purgatory / Paradise

Angst-come-self-destruction from Throwing Muses. Purgatory / Paradise was realeased initially in 2013 but Happy Happy Birthday To Me have decided it needs to be on all mediums, including vinyl, cassette as well as CD. No zip-disk though. It's their first album in a decade and it sounds like what you'd expect - like a monged out Primal Scream. It also comes with a book & loads of arty stuff.

Interpol
Turn On The Bright Lights

The formidable debut from Interpol, Turn On The Bright Lights, which turns 15 this year. In that early-2000s city environment, the New York post-punk revivalists dished out generous helpings of gloom, brooding vocals and those headily dark basslines that we’re still enjoying now. LP or CD on Matador.

Elastica
Elastica

In 1994 you would have thought that Elastica would have gone on to become something quite special but instead they dribbled to a halt. Still they released one classic album that although was dangerously derivative at times had the type of killer tunes that filled those indie discos. Vinyl reissue includes a bonus fanzine and flexi disc.

Arthur Russell
Calling Out of Context

This was the album that started the re-assessment of Arthur Russell's life and work. It compiled previously unreleased and unheard work from Arthur's enormous archive and featured tracks written and recorded between '85 and '90. Now here's the re-issue, spread over to 2LP for maximum sound clarity.

Cocteau Twins
Blue Bell Knoll

Released in 1988, ‘Blue Bell Knoll’ is the Cocteau Twins’ fifth studio album.  A beautiful record that showed the band’s continued maturity, it also included one of their most enduring songs, ‘Carolyn’s Fingers’. Now re-issued on heavyweight black vinyl and are being cut from brand-new HD 96/24 masters.

Electric Wizard
Dopethrone

Electric Wizard's 'Dopethrone' is a masterpiece of stoner and doom metal. The Dorset group take Black Sabbath's slow-and-low template and run all the way down the psychedelic rabbit hole and straight into the gates of hell with it. The ridiculously low-tuned guitars are steeped in devilish herb smoke and thick layers of fuzzed-out fog, whilst their wall-of-sound riffs lumber with monolithic intensity alongside mammoth percussion which fall like asteroids hitting earth. Jus Oborn’s funereal vocals sound as if he was caught within a bad trip, augmenting the demonic album with a shade of psychedelic brilliance.⁣ 'Dopethrone' is the perfect marriage of doom, sludge, stoner and psychedelic rock and is an essential in any collection. The album art depicting an intoxicated Lucifer pretty much sums up the record!

John Prine
John Prine (Live)

Following his passing earlier in 2020, interest in the great American singer-songwriter John Prine is at a high. 'John Prine (Live)', originally released in 1988 and the first live document he ever put out, captures the great man at his most intimate and avuncular over three nights at The Coach House in California. As good as guitar-helmed singer-songwriter fare gets, this.

Bellowhead
Hedonism

Literally no social distancing at all on that sleeve, though this album was made in 2010, when the world was a dazzling golden thing and we had little idea of what was to come. Certainly with an eleven-piece line up it was hard for Bellowhead to stay apart from each other at shows, and it was this - alongside their ace musicianship - which helped 'Hedonism' become the highest-selling independent folk album of all time. This tenth-anniversary reissue comes on red and black marble vinyl with liner notes from each member of the band.

Guided By Voices
Vampire On Titus

The first album that saw Guided By Voices reach anything approaching national exposure was conversely one of their most lo-fi efforts. Vampire On Titus was a hastily recorded rackety thing but beneath the noise you can hear the bursts of pop that would cement them as one of the prime movers in the alternative scene of the '90s and beyond. Now re-issued on a choice of vinyl and excitingly Robert Pollard's original insert now expanded so it is readable.

Hooverphonic
Reflection

A new pressing of ‘Reflection’ here, the eighth studio album from eclectic Belgian outfit Hooverphonic and the second of their LPs to feature vocalist Noémie Wolfs. ‘Reflection’ was recorded in the Belgian and French homes of some of their fans during 2013, and the result of this process was an extremely upbeat and accessible record, one which finds Hooverphonic returning to an analogue pop sound reminiscent of St. Etienne and The War On Drugs.

Morningrise EP by Reading's shoegaze trail-blazers Slowdive was originally released in 1991. The title track is so well thought of in shoegaze circles that some even regard it the best slice of shoegaze you’ll ever hear. The classic EP also includes She Calls and Losing Today. Limited edition on Music On Vinyl.

The B-52's
Wild Planet

Some bloke called John Lennon once cited weird pop/new wave band, The B52’s, as his favourite. High praise indeed. Wild Planet was the Athens, Georgia band’s second album, originally released in 1980. It is widely regarded by fans and critics alike as their best album. It contains the single, Private Idaho.

Scott Walker
Climate of Hunter

Typically of Scott Walker, his eleventh album (originally released in 1984) is both experimental in sound and texture but features guest spots from the mainstream likes of Mark Knopfler and Billy Ocean. There's no-one quite like him is there? This was a 'comeback' album released ten years after his previous solo LP and shows his music becoming ever more fractured. Next stop: Tilt.

Siouxsie and The Banshees
Hyaena

An interesting anomaly in the Banshees large and sprawling back catalogue. The departed John McGeogh was replaced by none other than Sir Robert Smith of the Cure. Unsurprisingly perhaps it was the Banshees mine a dark underbelly miles away from the pop that was in the charts at the time. No hits but it forced Smith out of his stupour to go on and write some of the Cure's best and brightest songs once he'd escaped.

Siouxsie and The Banshees
Kaleidoscope

Ah this is the classic one isn't it? The first with ‘Budgie’ on drums and  John McGeoch on guitar who would both play a part in transforming the Banshees sound. It contains two of their excellent breakthrough hits Happy House and Christine and is a more rounded and vibrant Banshees sound than ever. Now re-issued cut from the original tapes.

Siouxsie and The Banshees
Peepshow

Here's where Siouxsie and the Banshees proved that they were more than just goth rock gloomsters. Lead single 'Peek-a-Boo' was an innovative slice of future pop laden with samples and electronic effects. The album contained further hits in 'The Killing Jar' and 'The Last Beat of My Heart' and showcased a vibrant and unpredictable album.

The Teardrop Explodes
Wilder

The glittering but short-lived career of The Teardrop Explodes came to an end with 1981’s Wilder, only the second album completed by Julian Cope and co. before they disintegrated. More complex and moodier than its predecessor, reliant on loops and synths rather than guitars, it now gets a heavyweight vinyl re-issue.

Florence + The Machine
Lungs (10th Anniversary Edition)

Does Florence And The Machine’s debut LP Lungs hold up a decade on from its release? Only one way to find out I guess. As tenth anniversary editions go this new pressing of Lungs is fairly low-key - just some new colours on the vinyl this time around. For the cheap seats - Lungs is the one with ‘You’ve Got The Love’, ‘Dog Days Are Over’ and the definitely-lyrically-watertight ‘Kiss With A Fist’ on it.

Pulp
Different Class

Following the recent renewal of interest in Britpop comes the reissue of Pulp's widely revered 1995 LP 'Different Class'. Pressed onto 180g vinyl, this special issue comes with an insert featuring Cocker's bitingly deft lyrics. Alluding to society and the British class system, 'Different Class' was definitely of its time, but still resonates today.

Motörhead
On Parole (Expanded & Remastered)

'On Parole' was meant to be Motörhead’s debut LP when it was recorded in 1976, but the fact that it was left unreleased until 1979 meant that the record served as their fourth studio album. Here 'On Parole' gets an expanded reissue on double-vinyl, remastered from the original tapes and coming complete with six bonus tracks. Hard-rockin' and trash-talkin', 'On Parole' is the only Motörhead album to feature their very first line-up of Larry Wallis on guitar, Lucas Fox on drums and the indomitable Lemmy on vocals and bass.

Kraftwerk
Autobahn

This is Kraftwerk’s fourth album, though it’s treated by the band as their year zero, and not entirely without justification. Though retaining “real” instruments like flute, piano, guitar and violin, this marks the start of Kraftwerk as a focused, conceptually defined, electronic entity. The side-long, Beach Boys-inspired title track and the mix of ambient soundscapes and melodic pieces on side two all share an airy, utopian feel. This is the digital remaster on vinyl.

Kraftwerk
Techno Pop

I always knew this record as Electric Cafe but the whimsical and idiosyncratic bods at Kraftwerk HQ decided it was better known as Techno Pop so there you have it. Perhaps the alteration is due to the bad reputation the record had on release  - it lacked some of the playfulness and zest of earlier releases. But as with many albums time has been kinder and this understated album is worth its place in their stellar back catalogue.

Pearl Jam
Ten

Pearl Jam’s debut album Ten remains a serious landmark in alternative rock, playing an important part in determining the direction of popular rock music in the 90’s. Its also considered one of the band’s very best records, so what's not to like? Ten has sold millions of copies to date, but this reissue by We Are Vinyl keeps vinyl copies of the album nice and available for fans.

Depeche Mode
Music for the Masses

Music For The Masses by Depeche Mode was released just as the band were making it really big. The title suggested that the band felt as though they were making it for a large audience. As it turned out, they were. This was the breakthrough album for the band in the US. It was regarded by critics at the time as being their most accomplished album to date.

The Divine Comedy
Liberation

Originally released in 1993, Liberation was technically the second studio album by Neil Hannon’s The Divine Comedy, but the star himself refers to it as their ‘proper debut’ because of wrangles over its predecessor Fanfare For The Comic Muse. Including the understated single ‘Lucy’, it gets a remastered re-issue as part of the band’s 30th anniversary celebrations, with the CD edition including a bonus disc of B-sides, demos and alternate takes.

Silver Jews
American Water

Is American Water different from UK water?  Find out by buying the 20 year re-issue of this classic album by Silver Jews. Hear David Berman's lyrical poise set to a half speed master for extra good sound. Wallow in the gentle alt rock of tracks like 'Honk If You're Horny' and 'Sent in the Clouds'. Where is he by the way? We miss him!

Lightning Bolt
Hypermagic Mountain

"This totally rocks" said an unusually hyper Phil in his 2006 review of this re-issued album from Lightning Bolt. He's not wrong. Hypermagic Mountain saw the duo on top of their game splurging out a 57 minute primal pummelling of electric bass and drums. If your ears didn't bleed first time round then Thrill Jockey have re-issued on vinyl for your noise enjoyment.

Pere Ubu
The Tenement Year

Presented on clear vinyl is a reissue of 1988’s ‘The Tenement Year’, the sixth studio album from U.S. art-rock icons Pere Ubu and the first that they released following a few years of hiatus in the mid-80s. Featuring four of the core members from the ‘classic’ line-up of Pere Ubu’s first iteration, the album formed the basis of the band’s second life.

Neu!
Neu! 2

Neu! 2, the second LP from German Krautrock maestros, Neu!, is continually hailed as a classic of both the Krautrock genre and frankly, of the album format. The group honed the sound they had cultivated on their debut LP through 11-minute crunchers like 'Für Immer'. With the band having run out of recording money, the B-side is a few different manipulations of their previous single - a shoestring budget but turned out quite well.

Nirvana
Bleach: Deluxe Edition

Nirvana going round for the first time. 'Bleach' was the beginning of the famed grungers infinite ascendency, and it's now reissued as a lovely deluxe edition with more anthemic dejection than you could ever wish for: a live recording of their Portland show in 1990 (with a few surprises and covers), plus an obscenely long booklet of once-private photos. In summary: Nirvana, Bleach, deluxe.

Eno / Wobble
Spinner [Expanded Edition]

An expanded 25th anniversary re-issue of Spinner, a collaboration album between the legendary Brian Eno and former PiL bassist Jah Wobble. Originating as the prospective soundtrack to filmmaker Derek Jarman’s Glitterbug, Wobble built upon the original demos to make something both cold and funky, also including Can's Jaki Liebezeit on drums. Includes two bonus tracks (on download card for vinyl version) and liner notes from both artists.

A Certain Ratio
To Each

To Each captures A Certain Ratio in their post punk roots just before they got a little too interested in jazz and wearing shorts. Here they combines Ian Curtis style vocals with funky dance-pop sensibilities, and proto Happy Mondays guitar sounds. A brilliant blend. Dance and be miserable at the same time.

Benjamin Biolay
La Superbe

Serge Gainsbourg was a filthy, often offensive man who had women falling at his unwashed feet. Benjamin Biolay aimed to be a successor of sorts to his throne composing dramatic, orchestral pop led with male and female duets that suggests something naughty going on behind the microphone. La Superbe was released ten years ago but now gets a re-issue courtesy of Believe.

Little Ann
Deep Shadows

Unreleased and unheard since it was committed to tape over back in the Sixties with producer Dave Hamilton, Deep Shadows was the solitary album by soul singer Little Ann (real name Ann Bridgforth). Finally released in 2009, six years after her death, it’s a lost artefact of the Detroit soul scene, and is re-issued with a Sixties-style tip-on sleeve.

Emerging from the Ethiopian exile community in the Eighties following the overthrow of Haile Selassie, Sons of Ethiopia from Admas gets its first-ever vinyl and digital re-issue. Originally released in 1984, it’s a true lost gem, taking the traditional musical styles with which they were raised and mixing them up with global influences ranging from synthesiser music to roots reggae.

Barry Cleveland
Stones of Precious Water

Barry Cleveland made his new age/ambient compositions back in the early '80s and released Stones of Precious Water in 1986. The album blends ambience, new age, kosmishe and jazzy progressive sounds into a gently undulating whole in which every part was played by Cleveland himself.  First time pressing for this lesser heard masterpiece courtesy of Morning Trip.

Depeche Mode
Violator

It would have been impossible to predict when watching them as children on Top of the Pops doing "New Life" that Depeche Mode would become enormous stadium fillers with success in that massive place we call the United States of America. 'Violator' is the one that sent them completely overground and contains forever classics like 'Personal Jesus' and the surely never to be surpassed pop brilliance of 'Enjoy the Silence'.

Sonic Youth
Daydream Nation

Is there a finer stamp of approval than your album appearing in a pre-millennium episode of the Simpsons? Sonic Youth’s Daydream Nation, is one of the American indie underground’s epics, and was their last before signing to a major label (take from that what you will). LP box set comes with live versions, covers, and a booklet with previously unpublished photos.

Originally released in 1996 on Bomp! - the first of three albums that year alone - and now re-packaged on their current ‘a’ label, the group’s charismatic leader Anton Newcombe has long cited this era as one of his favourites from his band’s lengthy and much-storied history.

Wipers
Over The Edge

Over the Edge was the bleak and windswept third album by cult US group the Wipers. Their post-punk sound sits somewhere between early REM and Husker Du with superb proto-college rock guitars and Greg Sage's guttural howl which on the title track is easy to see how it influenced future fan boy Kurt Cobain. Essential remastered edition for you to (re) discover.

Ol' Dirty Bastard
Return To The 36 Chambers : The Dirty Version

Ol' Dirty has got even dirtier with this remastered version of his 1996 debut 36 Chambers. His first foray outside the bosom of Wu-Tang Clan, it was a stunning tour de force of entertainingly gritty hip-hop showcasing his unusual sea-sick and off kilter flow on tracks that ranged from terrifying to darkly humorous. It has long been seen as one of the high points of Wu-Tang's storied history and one of the most innovative rap records to date.
