Parlophone reissued a range of David Bowie albums in the Five Years boxset in 2015: now these nice 180g vinyl versions are being released individually too. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars needs no introduction, being one of the best-known albums of an enormous cultural icon. This release uses the 2012 remastered versions of the tracks.

The Streets
A Grand Don't Come For Free

Upon its release 10 years ago, The Streets second album, A Grand Don’t Come For Free was instantly hailed as another masterpiece to equal his initial clarion call, Original Pirate Material. Unavailable on vinyl for the best part of the intervening decade, Be With Records marks its second release by issuing Mike Skinner’s electronic soap opera on this format.

The Monkees
Head

Head was an experimental freaky trip of a film released in late 1968. It starred The Monkees, who also recorded the soundtrack, and was directed by Bob Rafelson. It was written by Raffelson along with Jack Nicholson and featured cameo appearances from Frank Zappa and Terri Garr. The soundtrack, features such songs as Porpoise Song and Circle Sky.

Joy Division
Closer

Second and final LP by doomed Salford post-punk band Joy Division, this is perhaps most often cited their greatest moment. Recorded shortly before the untimely death of singer Ian Curtis, whose health deteriorated rapidly during the making of this album, and produced by Martin Hannet. Limited edition vinyl reissue.

The Rolling Stones
Beggars Banquet

Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones was originally released in 1968 and was the first in a run of four brilliant albums: Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile On Main Street followed. Beggars Banquet was the last to feature Brian Jones, but due to increasing drug use didn’t play on the whole album. Contains the classics Sympathy For The Devil and Street Fighting Man.

Bob Marley & The Wailers
Legend (35th Anniversary Edition)

A grand double vinyl edition of the album that your dad always had in the car, Bob Marley & The Wailers’ greatest hits compilation Legend. To be fair, these are indeed greatest hits, with each track a fairly indisputable entry in reggae’s canon. You should never be far away from the classic live version of ‘No Woman No Cry’, and now you don’t need to be… on vinyl!

The Cure
Three Imaginary Boys

Three Imaginary Boys was where it all started for Robert Smith and his the Cure. It found the band in their pre-hair lacquer days playing a form of primitive post-punk that was compared at the time to Wire or Joy Division. By the time of 1980s Seventeen Seconds Smith and Co were nearer to realising their future aesthetic but Three Imaginary Boys is still a fascinating and compelling debut.

Scott Walker
Scott 4

From way back in 1969, Scott 4 is a classic of intense and majestic songcraft; the first set of entirely Walker penned songs combining sophisticated, easy-listening pop with lyrical complexity touching on the darkest of subject matter. Seen as a something of a commercial flop at the time of its release compared to his four previous albums, Scott Walker connoiseurs now consider this to be amongst his best work.

Nick Drake
Bryter Layter

Bryter Layter should obviously be in your record collection, and luckily you don’t have to spend £1,000,000 on a crackly old dog of a copy anymore. Island have faithfully remastered and reissued this beautiful thing from the (almost) original master tapes, and packaged it so it’s just like how your Dad would have bought it back in the day.

John Carpenter
Halloween - 40th Anniversary Edition

The worlds of film and music are hell-bent on squeezing every last drop of juice from the reboot of John Carpenter’s Halloween. This one here is not to be confused with a soundtrack album for the 40th anniversary movie - it is, in fact, the 40th anniversary edition of the ORIGINAL 1978 score. Apparently the first official release of this soundtrack was a remixed version, so for this new edition Carpenter’s partner-in-crime Alan Howarth has faithfully copied over the film's audio tracks in the same order in which they appear on-screen.

Belle and Sebastian
The Boy With The Arab Strap

On this, their third album Belle and Sebastian were getting used to becoming some kind of accidental indie-rock royalty. They became more knowing with songs about US fanzine 'Chickfactor' and A & R man extraordinaire Seymour Stein. Here, leader Stuart Murdoch began his crusade to let other band members sing which is always a bad idea as at the end of the day it's all about the voice innit?. Still, good album. Re-issued as part of the pre-new album celebrations.

Public Enemy
It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back

No hiphop collection should be without the 1989 breakthrough LP from PE. Chuck D’s lyrics and delivery matched with The Bomb Squad’s confrontational production represented a new high-water mark as to what rap could be capable of. The track listing is jaw-dropping - Bring the Noise, Don’t Believe the Hype, Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos, Rebel Without a Pause.... She Watch Channel Zero?! samples Def Jam labelmates Slayer, though it’s ironic to hear Flavor Flav being judgmental about viewing habits, having since been responsible for one of the worst sitcoms in TV history. Still, no questionable late career choices can overshadow this explosive statement of righteous black rage and defiance, that’s utterly uncompromising and iconic from the title down. Almost an hour’s worth crammed onto this LP but it sounds phenomenal.

Richard & Linda Thompson
I Want To See The Bright Lights

Given its reputation as a beloved British folk rock totem, it’s easy to forget that I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight, the first of six albums that Richard Thompson recorded with his then-wife Linda Thompson, was practically ignored upon release in 1974. It’s now re-issued by Island on heavyweight vinyl.

Mark Hollis
Mark Hollis

Following the sad passing of Mark Hollis earlier this year we all collectively turned back towards the impressive career arc of his band Talk Talk. Referenced less was his self-titled solo album released in 1998. It didn't help that the record was out of print at the time, but this re-issue is a chance to wallow again in the intimate grooves of a record that was initially intended to be released under the Talk Talk moniker. It is a gorgeous thing, full of woodwind, jazz-inflected drumming, pastoral guitar and Hollis's fascinating, mumbling verse. So quiet that you can hear the squeak of the musicians' chairs. Essential.

Justice
† (Cross)

Justice's debut is as big and brash as any electronic album this side of Daft Punk. Opting for stadium-sized pop hits and sample heavy electro-house tunes, '†' was hugely successful on the radio and in the indie music press alike. It features the chart smashing songs 'D.A.N.C.E.', 'DVNO', 'Stress' and 'Waters Of Nazareth'. They don't make them like this anymore.

Crass
Stations Of The Crass

Stations Of The Crass was the second album by anarchist punk band Crass. It was originally released in 1979. It features three sides of studio recordings and one side which was recorded live in an Islington pub (I wonder if Jeremy Corbyn was there?). The album’s title is not only a pun on Stations Of The Cross, but also the name of their campaign to daub the London underground in graffiti. On Crass Records.

Queens Of The Stone Age
Songs For The Deaf

A long-deserved vinyl edition for Queens Of The Stone Age’s commercial breakthrough record, 2002’s Songs For The Deaf, particularly for its original red background and black graphics artwork. After the critical adoration heaped upon 2000’s Rated R, Josh Homme and co. hired Dave Grohl to deliver his trademark powerhouse drumming, resulting in one of the most admired straight-out rock albums of the Noughties.

Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers
Buhaina's Delight

Buhaina's Delight is Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers classic album from 1963. The album featured Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Curtis Fuller, Cedar Walton and Jymie Merrit completing Blakey’s band - a stellar cast that has become known as the ultimate Jazz Messengers line up. The album focused on shorter songs and featured a version of Moon River.

Manic Street Preachers
The Holy Bible

So, to paraphrase a popular tweet, are they Street Preachers who are Manic or are they Preachers from Manic Street? Either way 'The Holy Bible' is the Welsh rock institution's third album and considered one of their finest. One of the few bands with the gall to take politics as their subject, and the talent to pull it off well.

The Low Anthem
Oh My God, Charlie Darwin (10th Anniversary Edition)

The Low Anthem hit pay dirt on their second album Oh My God, Charlie Darwin which they initially self released in 2018 but was subsequently given a bigger shove in 2009 by Bella Union. Now it's around for a third time for those of you who missed out on its beautifully tailored Americana which even then was worried about rising sea levels and the decay of morality.  *If you are quick there is a special DINKED edition white vinyl*

Saint Etienne
Tiger Bay

Tiger Bay was the third studio album by pop boffins Saint Etienne originally released in 1994. The premise of the album was to write modern folk songs that incorporated more up to date production techniques such as electronica, techno and dub welding the modern and the traditional. That said, there's only one traditional song here  - the rest being self-penned originals.

The Fall
I Am Kurious Oranj

In 1988 The Fall, in collaboration with the Michael Clark Company, staged an experimental ballet about William of Orange's ascension to the throne. Spoon
Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

Originally released in 2007 via Merge as their sixth studio album, Matador are re-issuing Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga by veteran indie-rockers Spoon, their first album to breach the Top Ten of the Billboard album charts. Newly re-cut from the original master tapes, it’s a part of the label’s Slay On Cue series that’ll see them make available the band’s first eight releases on vinyl and CD, some of them for the first time.

Radiohead
Amnesiac

Radiohead had already confused listeners of their earlier rock/prog sound with the electronic and experimental Kid A when they announced a swift follow up Amnesiac. Most of the songs were recorded in the same sessions as Kid A and although Amnesiac had some more radio-friendly moments (Pyramid Song and Knives Out), the album was still far from their earlier guitar-led anthemic songs. Another groundbreaking and exploratory work from the band that, like Kid A, went onto be hugely influential.

Saint Etienne
Finisterre

Finisterre was Saint Etienne's sixth album originally released in 2002. Like a lot of their albums it is wide ranging stylistically with ambient and vocal interludes between the more upbeat electronic pop. It was released alongside a film of the same name by long term collaborator Paul Kelly. Now a British institution, each Saint Etienne album is it's own little pocket symphony of pop.

The Magic Numbers
The Magic Numbers

The Magic Numbers burst onto the scene in 2005 when we were led to believe that they were the second coming of the Mamas and Papas. They didn't ever quite make legendary status but this harmony-drenched debut almost landed them the Mercury Music Prize and believe it or not they are still making music to this day. Reissue courtesy of the Forever Heavenly series and these copies come with a bonus 7".

Saint Etienne
Good Humor

1998 saw Saint Etienne release their fourth album Good Humor, which was recorded in Sweden and marks a movement away from the band’s dancier origins. As well as more of a balance between acoustic instruments and synths, the album has quite a loungey soft vibe, almost like a flipside to what Stereolab were doing at a similar time. Reissued on Heavenly.

John Maus
We Must Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves

John Maus’ We Must Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves is the record we both need and deserve. The 2011 album saw Maus (somewhat) hone the hypnagogic pop of his first two LPs in a ‘search for the perfect pop song’. Sometimes this means we get wistful, florid synth-pop in the mould of Maus’ good friend Ariel Pink; sometimes this means we get brisk, bracing Joy Division-esque post-punk; always it means we get a record that lays itself bare, bringing the bliss even as Maus coos things like 'let's kill every cop in sight'.

Interpol
Turn On The Bright Lights

The formidable debut from Interpol, Turn On The Bright Lights, which turns 15 this year. In that early-2000s city environment, the New York post-punk revivalists dished out generous helpings of gloom, brooding vocals and those headily dark basslines that we’re still enjoying now. LP or CD on Matador.

J Dilla
Donuts

Now an absolute stone cold classic, Donuts was initially an album written out of necessity as James Yancey was hospitalised at the time with the disease that would eventually kill him and without his usual studio tools he was forced into making beat tape-like collages. The album was released three days before his death and its magpie-like scattershot approach to beatmaking and sampling has since been used by...well... pretty much everyone.

Dirty Three
Whatever You Love, You Are

Whatever You Love, You Are is the 6th album by Australian instrumental three-piece The Dirty Three. The band are comprised of Warren Ellis (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds), drummer Jim White and guitarist Mick Turner. It was recorded in the Cocteau Twins studio back in 1999 and originally released the following year. It is a recording that Bella Union label owner Simon Raymonde has fond memories of. He is both responsible for, and happy to see, it being reissued.

Pale Saints
The Comforts Of Madness

Towards the end of the ‘80s Pale Saints, from Leeds, were part of a new movement in British indie known as shoegaze. Bands such as Ride, Slowdive and 4AD labelmates, Lush joined them in their quest, and would ultimately become better known. Perhaps Pale Saints are due a resurgence, like the bands that they broke through with initially have enjoyed of late. Comforts of Madness was their debut, originally released in 1990, and it’s a bit of classic. This expanded reissue includes unreleased demos and a Peel Session from 1989.

Bauhaus
The Sky’s Gone Out

Reissue of The Sky’s Gone Out, Bauhaus’ 1982 third album. With tracks like ‘Exquisite Corpse’ and ‘The Three Shadows’ (in three parts), this is a slice of full Goth-rock, beloved by all the serious Goths around. This reissue features freshly HD remastered audio, using the original master tapes as source.

Arctic Monkeys
Teddy Picker

More Arctic Monkeys re-presses with a new 7" pressing of Teddy Picker, initially released as the third single off their second album Favourite Worst Nightmare. Arctic Monkeys
My Propeller

My Propeller was initially taken from the Arctic Monkeys third album Humbug. It showcases the darker sound of the album as the Sheffield scamps started to grow up and explore more mature territories. What it lacks in tunefulness it makes up in a kind of brooding intensity. 7" re-press on Domino with Joining the Dots on t'other side.

Arctic Monkeys
The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala

The oddly titled The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala was a track taken from Arctic Monkeys fourth album Suck It and See. It's a melodic treat of a song on an album that has sometimes been accused of being too hard edged. Lots of lyrical twists and turns and stadium-ready rock here. The only downside is that the B side features Miles Kane.

Bert Jansch
Avocet (Expanded Anniversary Edition)

A luxury re-issue of what some regard to be Bert Jansch's best work. Avocet was initially released in 1979 and is a gorgeous instrumental album inspired by British birds. It shifts his brilliant, twisting guitar playing away from traditional folk and more towards a kind of proto neo-classical sound. This 40th anniversary edition comes with bonus tracks and writings by collaborator Danny Thompson.

Bauhaus
In The Flat Field

Where did it all begin? Well, for Bauhaus (and thus arguably for all goths), it began in 1980 with In the Flat Field, a hell of a statement any way you cut it. Serious chugging rock heft underpins Peter Murphy’s highly characterful vocals: you can kind of see how it created a whole idiom in its wake. Reissue editions on 4AD.

Terry Hall
Home

Terry Hall. You'll know him as the grumpy frontman of the Specials, the Fun Boy Three and the Colourfield. Less is known perhaps about his debut album Home which landed in 1994. The album features collaborations with Craig Gannon (former 5th Smith) as well as Andy Partridge (XTC), Nick Heyward (Haircut One Hundred) and Ian Broudie (the Lightning Seeds). The album has long been out of print and impossible to acquire. Now is your chance.

The Fall
This Nation's Saving Grace

Beggar’s Banquet are launching the next phase of their Fall reissue campaign, hooray hooray! This Nation’s Saving Grace, an album by The Fall that almost everyone seems to agree is a classic slice of Fall: impressive, given how hard it is to get that fanbase to agree. Major level Fall, get involved.

Guided By Voices
Vampire On Titus

The first album that saw Guided By Voices reach anything approaching national exposure was conversely one of their most lo-fi efforts. Vampire On Titus was a hastily recorded rackety thing but beneath the noise you can hear the bursts of pop that would cement them as one of the prime movers in the alternative scene of the '90s and beyond. Now re-issued on a choice of vinyl and excitingly Robert Pollard's original insert now expanded so it is readable.

Predatür

Classic guitar boogie from 1982 and the only single released by Predatur. Cleveland Confidential

Just trying to imagine Cleveland OH circa 1980 brings a haze of industrial grey to mind yet it was in this depressed city that some of the best clanking post-punk emerged. Cleveland Confidential compiled the best rarely heard bits  - these unknown names taking their influence from fellow Rust Belt dwellers Pere Ubu and Dead Boys amongst others. An essential document of a particular time and place.

Van Morrison
Astral Weeks

Astral Weeks was the second album by Irish singer/songwriter Van Morrison. It was originally released in 1968. Morrison assembled a band of jazz musicians to create an album that was more expansive and meandering than his previous work. It’s highly regarded among fans and its influence has even shown on recent albums such as Primrose Green by Ryley Walker. Highly recommended!

New Order
Technique

What. An. Album. This is the one where New Order took loads of drugs and went to Ibiza and came out with dance pop classic. The album is a shimmering beauty, perfectly matching their Mancunian guitar pop with the dancefloor sounds of the day. (Almost) every song is perfect. A brilliant ride start to finish.

Domenique Dumont
People On Sunday

People on Sunday is the third LP by Domenique Dumont and is a belated soundtrack to the 1930 silent film of the same title. The film explores life in Berlin prior to dictatorship and Dumont has chosen to work with the film seeing parallels to life now as the world becomes taken over by dictators. The album is a wistful blend of charming electronics, a soothing soundtrack to a world gone mad.

Moon Duo
Escape (Expanded Edition)

The duo of Sanae Yamada and Wooden Shjips’ Ripley Johnson, Moon Duo’s debut album Escape has been out of print since its release on Woodsist a decade ago. However, to mark its tenth anniversary, Sacred Bones re-issues the record in an expanded vinyl version, including three bonus rare tracks that capture the band in an even earlier, rawer form.

Manu Dibango
Gone Clear

Gone Clear is a 1980 roots reggae album by Cameroonian saxophonist Manu Dibango. It was recorded in Jamaica with the likes of Sly and Robbie in his band. It includes a reggae reworking of his afrobeat-funk classic Soul Makossa, the original of which was illegally sampled by both Michael Jackson and Rhianna. Manu Dibango sadly fell victim to COVID-19, aged 86, but his music is here to keep finding new fans.

SWANS
Children of God

One of the finest albums from the early iteration of Michael Gira’s Swans, 1987’s Children of God gets a re-mastered re-issue. Making increased use of the recent addition of Jarboe as a counterpoint to Gira’s blood-and-thunder storytelling, it comes with a bonus live album Feel Good Now.

Nightmares On Wax
Carboot Soul

Nightmares On Wax provided the constant chill vibes for Warp Records back in the day, and 'Carboot Soul' kept a steady hand on proceedings, melding together trip-hop sounds with the same old jazz affections and haze of 'Smoker's Delight'. It's being reissued with all its siblings as part of the N.O.W. Is The Time Campaign, which will hopefully immortalise this smooth type of easy listening.

The Books
Lost and Safe

Here we have a remastered edition of the third LP from seminal duo The Books. On Lost & Safe the pair of Nick Zammuto and Paul De Jong continue to take their highly idiosyncratic brand of neo-folk in ever-more intriguing directions. Much like the contemporaneous experiments of Animal Collective and Devendra Banhart, this record blends organic instrumentation with zany electronics. Lost & Safe was The Wire’s album of the year back in 2005, y’know...

The Pop Group
Y

Y by The Pop Group was their debut album, originally released in 1979. The post-punk band from Bristol were seen as pioneers of the genre. They mixed jazz, reggae and dub influences with punk to create something quite original. The band claim they were trying to mix Funkadelic with Captain Beefheart to see what happened.

Kleistwahr
This World Is Not My Home / Over Your Heads Forever

Kleistwahr is a musical project of Gary Mundy, known for his industrial/power electronics band Ramleh. This World Is Not My Home (2014) and Over Your Heads Forever (2016) were originally released on CD to great critical acclaim. Kleistwahr explores sound from atmospheric lows to ear-bleeding highs. Fourth Dimension is making them available as a double LP set.

Hauschka
Room To Expand (Expanded)

There was room to expand so they expanded. Volker Bertelmann is Hauschka, well known for what goes on within his prepared piano, which he fills with instruments and trinkets to create spooky timbres and odd atmospheres. 'Room To Expand' is a reissue of his debut record and shows his humble but proficient technical beginnings. Seek out this version for six new tracks that are fitted onto the record properly rather than tacked on as an afterthought.

Tiny Ruins
Some Were Meant For Sea

Tiny Ruins is the alias used by New Zealander Hollie Fulbrook who released her debut album Some Were Meant For Sea on the tiny Spunk label in 2011. Luckily Bella Union stepped in to give it a vinyl re-issue and bring her warm textured nature-inspired songwriting a bigger audience. More stripped-back than her later work, this slow burning record should not be underestimated.

Field Music
Tones of Town

Possibly not a selling point but Tones of Town is this Norman Records Description Writer(tm)'s favourite Field Music record. It was their second album and sees the boys from Sunderland craft an impressive set of songs that are probably more catchy and less insanely clever than their later work but with some beautiful orchestral touches. The Wearside 10CC I call them and this is perhaps their Sheet Music. Essential.

The Bevis Frond
Bevis Through The Looking Glass

Bevis Through The Looking Glass was the third album by Londoner, Nick Saloman's band The Bevis Frond and was originally released in 1987. It features guitar solos that would make J Mascis jealous and catchy melodies to make The Beatles rethink their status, all wrapped in a big psychedelic blanket.

June of 44
Engine Takes To The Water

Engine takes to Water was the debut album from June of 44 released originally in 1995. It fit perfectly in at post Spiderland moment where bands played eerie slowed down math rock with quiet/loud dynamics. The quartet all lived in different cities and features former members of the likes of Rodan and Lungfish and future members of the For Carnation and Him.

June of 44
Tropics and Meridians

Tropics and Meridians was the second album from math-rock quartet June of 44. Where their debut Engine Takes to Water was heavily indebted to Slint, Tropics and Meridians explored electronic and jazz territories and was often compared to the work of Tortoise. one of the many bands from that era making fascinating explorative music  - members went on to the For Carnation and Him amongst others.

Pere Ubu
Terminal Tower

Terminal Tower was a 1985 era collection of the early singles of deconstructed industrial garage rockers Pere Ubu. The band were on hiatus at the time of release so it was as good a time as any to revisit the racket they were making a decade earlier. It features their debut 30 Seconds Over Tokyo and ten more examples of their rulebook destroying form of rock music.

The Bevis Frond
The Auntie Winnie Album

The Auntie Winnie Album was the sixth album to be released by psychedelic rock act The Bevis Frond. Originally released in 1989, it is ripe for rediscovery. The Bevis Frond is essentially Nick Saloman who writes, produces and performs everything with bits of help here and there. He is one of the most underrated artists working today and his influence has reached artists such as Teenage Fanclub, Juliana Hatfield and Dinosaur Jr.

The Telescopes
Altered Perception

Altered Perception was an aptly titled compilation from noisy space-rock experimentalists the Telescopes. It contains tracks taken from their first two albums alongside rarities and B Sides. This is the first time on vinyl for the collection which shows the shapeshifting collective at the very beginnings of their journey. Essential if you are fond of a bit of shoegaze racket and indie-pop noise pollution.

The Bevis Frond
Miasma

Is the rumour true that Bevis Frond could afford to keep his music career going by a payout he earned after he fell down a hole in the street? Not sure but glad he's around anyway. Once part of the English psych scene that revolved around the excellent magazine Bucketful of Brains, Frond is ripe for rediscovery by the types of kids in thrall to the likes of Ty Segall, Kurt Vile and the new slacker rock brigade. This is the first of a series re-issue of his albums and is in fact his debut, first unleashed in 1987. A cursory listen to 'The Newgate Wind' reveals that it is a very fuzzy thing indeed. Haphazard psych music somewhere between J. Mascis, The MC5 and Neil Young which degenerates into a coughing fit at its conclusion.

Josephine Foster
This Coming Gladness

This Coming Gladness was folk singer extraordinaire Josephine Foster's eighth album originally released in 2008. As usual it is a mixture of traditional and modern folk stylings with her swooping voice taking centre stage. This Coming Gladness blends together eerie folk and out-there psych influences assisted by guitarist Victor Herrero and percussionist Alex Nielson (Trembling Bells etc).

Josephine Foster
A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing

Classic renditions of German poems that have been previously released and (as some of you may have noticed) have sold out on all platforms....until now! This is a remaster of A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing sung by Josephine Foster with brand spanking new artwork. But act fast because this is limited to 1000 copies and will more than likely sell like popcorn in a cinema. Television Personalities
Privilege

The Television Personalities were initially a playful DIY pop project with nods galore to the 1960s but as their career went on their albums became darker hued and more troubled. A good example of this latter approach is their 1990 album Privilege which places Dan Treacy's darkly lyrical musings amidst a more synth-based landscape. Another fascinating dispatch re-issued on black and white marbled vinyl by long time supporters Fire.

The Television Personalities
Closer To God

Closer to God was a 1992 era album by Dan Treacy and his ever changing Television Personalities. As with a lot of his work it is a personal affair reflecting his troubles with mental illness most notable on tracks like My Very First Nervous Breakdown. Fire records have always been in and around the TVPs world and here re-issue this lesser spotted album on black and white marbled vinyl.

The Coral
Magic & Medicine

It’s not the one with ‘Dreaming Of You’ on - it’s not even the one with ‘In The Morning’ on - but The Coral’s ‘Magic & Medicine’ is actually their most successful album in the UK, to date their only number one and also containing their only top-five single ('Pass It On'). This 2003 LP is as fine a representation of the Merseyside band’s skiffling psych-beat as anything else in their catalogue, and the songcraft is strong enough that it still holds its own all these years on.

Death Cab For Cutie
Plans

‘Not real Death Cab’, cry the purists. And sure, they can front all they want about Death Cab For Cutie’s 2005 LP ‘Plans’ - about how the band toned down their emo sound here for a more grandiose brand of alt-rock, about the production, about how ‘I Will Follow You Into The Dark’ is one of Jimmy Carr’s Desert Island Discs. But I’d like to see them keep their cool when ‘Plans’ comes on the stereo after one too many American-style pale ales. We all know they’re blubbing like a baby from the first autumnal chimes of ‘Soul Meets Body’.

BBC Radiophonic Workshop
The Radiophonic Workshop

The BBC Radiophonic Workshop were a legendary set of boffins who were paid money to discover new ways of making electronic sound that could be used as ident music on television shows. Their work was a huge influence on electronic music and this LP collects all the futuristic sounds they made between 1968 and 1975. No self respecting fan of electronic music history should be without it.

The Coral
The Coral

When Liverpudlians the Coral first burst onto the scene we were promised something like a cross between the La's and Captain Beefheart. The reality was somewhat more prosaic but their psychedelic take on the guitar pop of the era was more colourful and explorative than their peers. Their self-titled debut was a sea-faring classic gaining them a Mercury Music Prize nomination and a large following that has stuck by them to this day.

Cranes
Forever

The 1993 album by British shoegazers Cranes is now being made available again on vinyl! Built To Spill
Keep It Like A Secret

Ah, gotta love a bit of Built To Spill. This classic album, first released in 1997 saw the band experiment with a bigger, cleaner, and tighter sounds - courtesy of the luxuries of a well-stocked Warners studio no doubt. Anyway, this is the album that put Bult To Spill on the map. A map that should come in handy as they crank up the tour buses again.
