Current 93
Sleep Has His House

Sleep Has His House was an album released by Current 93 circa the year 2000 and is inspired by the passing of David Tibet's father. This new version is remastered from the original tapes and includes unreleased mixes and alternative versions. A meditative exercise in grief and loss, the album has regularly been cited as one of the band's best.

Soft Cell
This Last Night In Sodom

Originally released in 1984 as their third studio album, This Last Night In Sodom marked the messy end of Soft Cell’s first incarnation, with Marc Almond and David Ball announcing their split around a month before it came out. Featuring two minor hits in ‘Soul Inside’ and ‘Down In The Subway’, it now gets a vinyl re-issue.

Soft Cell
The Art Of Falling Apart

A re-issue on double vinyl for The Art of Falling Apart, the sophomore studio album from Soft Cell released in 1983. While it couldn’t quite match the runaway success of debut Non-Stop Erotic Dancing, it nevertheless won critical acclaim. The second vinyl includes the 10-minute track ‘Martin’, issued as a 12” single accompanying initial copies of the album, as well as the famous ‘Hendrix Medley’ including ‘Hey Joe’, ‘Purple Haze’ and ‘Voodoo Chile’.

Soft Cell
Non Stop Ecstatic Dancing

As a great man once said, "Ruddy hell, it's Soft Cell". The legendary synthpop duo comprising Dave Ball and Marc Almond had a string of superb LPs including the mini album 'Non Stop Ecstatic Dancing'. Unbelievably, the whole record was written and recorded in one week (about as long as some groups take to clear their throat). Primitive machine music, time constraints, and Almond's weirdly out-of-key singing combine in a magical alchemy.

The Fall
Dragnet

The second album from The Fall gets the reissue treatment here. Dragnet, recorded in 1979, established the routine to which Mark E. Smith would indefinitely adhere; new music and new members. In contrast to Live At The Witch Trials, Dragnet features decidedly muddy production, setting a precedent for future albums. Out on CD and vinyl LP from Castle Music and Sanctuary.

The Revolving Paint Dream
Flowers In The Sky

A minor hit on the indie charts when originally released back in 1984, ‘Flowers In The Sky’ was the debut single from future Primal Scream guitarist Andrew Innes when he was in the short-lived The Revolving Paint Dream. Released on Creation Records - whose founder Alan McGee was actually in the band too - it’s now given a second lease of life via this 7” single re-issue as part of the Optic Sevens series, and includes a postcard and poster.

Meat Whiplash
Don't Slip Up

We're really delving into indie pop obscurity with Meat Whiplash. They released just one single (but it was on Creation famously) before splitting and regrouping as the Motorcycle Boy. This is that only single re-pressed and re-issued on coloured vinyl by the archivists who are Optic Nerve. Comes with nice postcard and poster.

Endless Boogie
Vol. I + II

Vol 1 & 2 (aka Black and White) by New York band Endless Boogie are the earliest, and much sought after, recordings by the band. They were quickly put together from archived recorded when they were unexpectedly asked to play the Slint-curated All Tomorrow’s Parties festival. They are now back in print and readily available for any fans of the band who were unaware of their earliest days. On No Quarter.

B12
Electro-Soma

Warp Records luminaries B12 announce the first reissue of their 1993 album Electro-Soma all remastered in a gatefold sleeve with an essay on B12, photos and more souvenirs. Alongside Aphex Twin, The Black Dog, and Autechre, B12 were pioneers of IDM and techno and Electro-Soma was the first compilation of their early recordings.

Veruca Salt
IV

A re-issue on white vinyl of IV, the fourth studio album from American alternative rock veterans Veruca Salt. Originally released in 2006, it came after a period of personnel upheaval, featuring an entirely new rhythm section and being the last album to include guitarist Stephen Fitzpatrick, but won plaudits for its hard-hitting dynamics.

The Futureheads
The Futureheads

Skittering Sunderland four piece the Futureheads have had something of an Indian summer this year with their comeback album Powers so what better time to revisit their self-titled debut. It blasted through fifteen tracks of agit-pop and post-punk and was notable for a high octane version of Kate Bush's Hounds of Love which reached a heady number eight in the hit parade. Rhino have now re-pressed the album onto lush double wax.

Goldfrapp
Supernature

Supernature was the third album from London electronic music duo Goldfrapp. It carried on from 2003's Black Cherry in introducing glam rock and pulsating electronics into their previously folk-based sound palette. It was led by the single Ooh La La which went straight to number 4 in the hit parade introducing the band to an even wider audience. This new edition comes on transparent green vinyl in gatefold sleeve and with an exclusive art print of the original artwork.

The Doors
L.A. Woman

LA Woman was the sixth and final studio album The Doors. Jim Morrison died shortly after its release in 1971. The band split with long-time producer Paul A. Rothchild leaving engineer Bruce Botnick to co-produce with the band. Along with the jazzy blues rock of the title track it features Love Her Madly, Been Down So Long and Riders On The Storm.

Soft Cell
Cruelty Without Beauty

Released 18 years after Marc Almond and Dave Ball originally disintegrated their creative partnership, 2002’s Cruelty Without Beauty marked the reunion of Soft Cell. As they prepare for their second reunification and a fifth studio album set for release in 2021, Big Frock re-issues the album as a double-CD package, with unreleased and rare tracks, and a heavyweight pink vinyl.

Ocean Colour Scene
Moseley Shoals

This is the one isn't it? This is the record which led to my demise when working for a world famous Leeds record store. I was told  - in no uncertain terms  - that I couldn't publicly admit to hating Ocean Colour Scene as they "paid my wages". Thanks guys. Anyway hopefully a few sales of this their dismal but universally popular second album will help make it worth getting out of bed to go to work on 16th April. It's the one with all the songs that made them heroes to Brit pop such as 'The Riverboat Song' which you'll know if you've ever been forced to watch 'TFI Friday'.

Spoon
Kill The Moonlight

Kill The moonlight is the fourth album by Texan indie rock outfit Spoon. It was originally released in 2002 to critical acclaim - some people regarded it as their greatest work. The inclusion of the single The Way We Get By on TV shows such as The O.C. saw the band’s music reaching new ears. On Matador.

Sonic Youth
Evol

Sonic Youth’s Evol is their third album from 1986 and as the title may hint towards, Evol is the album which sees Sonic Youth evolve into a rockier sound which always reminds me a bit of The Doors, as the sound swells from crashing guitar into murky drums effortlessly. Available on vinyl or CD. CD comes with an additional track which also comes with the vinyl’s download code.

Elysian Spring
Glass Flower

French jazz from the late sixties is an underappreciated niche. Mais pas ici at Norman Records. Imagine the heartfelt joy we felt when our kind amis at Le Très Jazz Club announced their repressing of Elysium Spring’s cult classic, Glass Windows. Finally, these soft and gentle jazz tones will be available to a wider audience. Best not sleep on this one, it might not be around for too long.

Tod Dockstader
Aerial 1

Tod Dockstader's Aerial series came about due to the composers fascination with AM radio. He recorded hours of static, buzz, dialogue and whatever else he found by turning the dial and mutated it into a series of drones, atmospheres that lure the listener deep into his world. The fact that he produced this at a time when he was supposed to be deep into retirement just exemplifies the endless creativity of the man.

The Sea and Cake always deliver the goods, and their 2008 record Car Alarm is a particularly strong example of their polymathic, polyrhythmic sound. David Bowie & Marlene Dietrich
Just A Gigolo (The Original Soundtrack)

Filmed during a break in his enormous Stage world tour in 1978, Just A Gigolo saw David Bowie star alongside the iconic actress and singer Marlene Dietrich in her final film role. While the film was panned, the soundtrack remains a compelling curio, featuring performances from Pasadena Roof Orchestra, the Manhattan Transfer and the Village People, on top of an original Bowie track ‘Revolutionary Song’.

Pink Floyd
Ummagumma

Ummagumma by Pink Floyd was released in 1969. It was the band’s third album and first album to feature the line-up of Gilmour, Waters, Wright and Mason (not counting their soundtrack to the film More). The change in line-up was also marked by a departure in sound from their psychedelic roots. A double LP, the first two sides featured live performances recorded in Manchester and Birmingham with sides 3 & 4 being taken up by experimental pieces from each band member.

that dog.
Retreat From The Sun

That Dog were one of those ‘90s bands who never quite hit the big time despite support slots with the likes of Weezer, Counting Crows and Blur. It’s certainly not down to lack of talent or good songs, either. They were led by Anna Waronker and featured two of the very talented Hayden Triplets in their ranks at various times. Retreat From The Sun was their third album, originally released in ‘97 and features guest spots from Waronker’s husband, Steve McDonald of Redd Kross, Charlotte Caffey from The Go-Go’s and Tanya Hayden - the other Hayden triplet.

Frank Turner
Poetry of the Deed (10th Anniversary Edition)

Poetry of the Deed was the third album from former Million Dead frontman Frank Turner. It differed from its predecessors in that it was written and performed with his band in tow and not as a solo artist. The results were a more rock-based album with louder dynamics. It didn't seem to put anyone off and Turner played 24 shows in 24 hours across London to support it. Ten years later, it is time for the white vinyl re-issue.

Lightning Bolt
Lightning Bolt

Lightning Bolt have been described as ‘loud guitar rock’. That's underselling their ferociousness somewhat. Their eponymous debut album was originally released in 1999 and has never been repressed - until now. This time it comes as a double LP with a second LP, recorded during the same sessions, being previously unreleased on vinyl. Listening to this record is the closest you’ll get to experience them live without actually being at a gig.

Everything But The Girl
Temperamental

The series of half-speed re-mastered Everything But The Girl albums on vinyl arrives at the duo’s 1999 swansong, Temperamental. A left-turn into deep house ambience and trip-hop grooves punctuated by vulnerable lyrics and vocal performances from Tracey Thorn, it was misunderstood and largely ignored at the time, particularly as it followed the accessible and commercially successful Walking Wounded, but critical opinion has warmed to Temperamental in recent years.

The Flaming Lips

Warner Brothers’ Flaming Lips reissue series continues with the band’s debut LP, 1986’s Hear It Is. This set is a world away from the Pet Sounds-ish maximalism of The Soft Bulletin. Across these ten tunes we find Wayne Coyne et al see-sawing between Barettian balladry (‘With You’, ‘Jesus Shootin’ Heroin’) and punk thrash (‘Just Like Before’, ‘Unplugged’).

Steve Reich
Drumming, Six Pianos, Music for Mallet Instruments, Voices and Organ

Never shying away from blunt titles Steve Reich’s Drumming, Six Pianos, Music for Mallet Instruments, Voices and Organ is exactly that. Babyshambles
Shotter's Nation

Shotter's Nation was the second album from never knowingly not wasted the Libertines co-frontman Pete 'Peter' Doherty under his Babyshambles moniker. It sees him collaborating with an unfathomably eclectic bunch of artists such as Kate Moss, Ian Brown and Bert Jansch and this is probably the only time you'll see those three in the same sentence. Not exactly the pinnacle of recorded music but at least he's alive I suppose.

Strain Crack & Break: Music From The Nurse With Wound List - Volume 1 (France)

You’ll probably know what the Nurse With Wound list is if you’ve taken even a passing interest in experimental music over the past few decades, but once more for good luck: Compiled by the three original members of the group (Steven Stapleton, John Fothergill, and Heman Pathak) back in the 70's, the list runs to hundreds of artists and has since become an encyclopedia for fans of the musical avant-garde. Now, more than four decades since the first version of the list emerged, Nurse With Wound mainstay Stapleton has got together a compilation based around it. Strain Crack & Break features a baker’s dozen of pieces composed by some of the list’s French entries. Igor Wakhévitch, Jacques Thollot and the late Pierre Henry are among Strain Crack & Break’s tracklist. Out through Finders Keepers.

Martin Solis
Martin Solis & Los Primos

Martin Solis was born in Texas in 1929. He made conjunto music - a Tex-Mex, or tejano, hybrid of sounds made up from accordion and the Mexican 12-string bass known as bajo sexto. He holds the prestige of being inducted into the tejano music hall of fame but he never released any recordings in his lifetime. Los Primos were the band he formed in the late ‘50s with his Saxophonist cousin Willy Huron. Martin Solis & Los Primos is the first ever LP of his music, and we have Third Man Records to thank for bringing it to us.

Like a Ship... (Without a Sail)

An ingenious piece of crate-digging has exhumed this real treasure. Recorded in 1971 by a 27 year old pastor and a school-initiative choir, Like A Ship… (Without A Sail) was a haunting rumination on the aftermath of the Civil Rights Movement, and was sampled by the mighty Kanye West subsequently.

Beastie Boys
Ill Communication

Beastie Boys reissues raining down on your turntables these days! Ill Communication, coming at you from 1994, with all beats produced, lines rapped and instruments played by the Beastie Boys, spawned one of their most famous songs, Sabotage. But these guys gave us so much more: shortly after the release of this album, they coined the word mullet. This is your chance to acquire a piece of pop culture history!

Ofege
Try And Love

Largely neglected in the wave of Lagos Funk and Afrobeat reissues of the past decade, Ofege now get their dues with a reissue. Recorded when the group were still in high school, Try And Love went on to sell loads of copies when it first came out in 1973. Ofege’s brand of Nigerian boogie-rock is closest in style to the more blues-influenced groups like Monomono and BLO.

Nick Cave & Warren Ellis
The Proposition (Original Soundtrack)

‘Mr. Cave, Mr. Ellis - welcome. We have a Proposition for you. How would you like to try your hand at scoring a film - a film starring Ray Winston, no less. We envisage that the music you’ll make for it will be quite similar to your work with The Bad Seeds but with less singing. The more abstract, synth-heavy tracks will pave the way for records you’ll make in a decade’s time, though obviously you don’t know that yet. You’ll also go on to do some more score work for plenty of other gritty Westerns in the future, though again that’s for us to know and for you to find out. Then we’ll get Mute to release your soundtrack as a standalone album. Who knows, maybe the vinyl will be a nice colour. Waddayasay?’

Digable Planets

Finally: a reissue of Digable Planets’ 1993 debut, Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space)! It's the first time the record has been on vinyl since those heady days, now expanded to 2 discs. Their laid-back, finger-snappin' jazzy sound spawned the huge hit 'Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like Dat)' - and - the trio from Brooklyn, NY were awarded a Grammy in 1994.  House in a wide-spined jacket, including a booklet with Larry Mizell Jr's notes and interview of Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler.

UT
Conviction

Reissue of UT's debut album Conviction. By 1986 the band had left behind no-wave New York for post-punk London. On the album the trio of Nina Canal, Jacqui Ham and Sally Young, explore the shared space between no-wave, post-punk and even the more improvisational space of free jazz to create songs that are simultaneous taut and expansive.

Betty Davis
They Say I'm Different

She certainly was different. Her life alone is quite the story with relationships with musicians good (Miles Davis) indifferent (Robert Palmer) and bad (Eric Clapton) but it was her incredible funk and soul voice and mesmerising live shows which made her famous. They Say I'm Different was her second album from 1974 written and arranged by herself and has been declared a classic in the intervening years. Ahead of her time in many ways and with an excellent documentary about her life doing the rounds now is the chance to (re) discover her music.

Betty Davis
Betty Davis

To some of us, Betty Davis will always be a hero simply because she told Eric Clapton that she wouldn’t collaborate with him because his music was too boring. The fact that she is also one of the most important funk singers of all time only adds to her case. Here we get her eponymous, Sly & The Family Stone-backed 1973 LP reissued by Light In The Attic. Few LPs before or since have ever come close to matching the swagger on display across these tunes.

A re-issue of Bird, Lake, Objects, a 2010 collaboration in minimalist electronica between percussionist Masayoshi Fujita and producer Jan Jelinek. Half doom, half jazz: they're doomjazz. This reissue charts the rise of The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation, such as they are known when they're making the free, more improvised alternative to their work as The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble. The Appleseed Cast
Two Conversations

Two Conversations by emo band The Appleseed Cast was originally released in 2003. Coloured Balls are Australian rock ‘n’ roll legends. They were formed by Lobby Loyde who had some success with The Purple Hearts, The Aztecs and Wild Cherries but it was Coloured Balls who changed the face of Aussie Rock. The First Supper Last Or Scenes We Didn't Get To See was the first album they recorded, but it wasn’t released until 1976, some four years after they’d formed and three years after they released their classic album Ball Power.

Gil Scott-Heron
Pieces Of A Man

Pieces of a Man was Gil Scott-Heron’s debut album and was originally released in 1972. This reissue has been taken from the original master tapes. Pieces of a Man includes some of Gil Scott-Heron’s best and best known tracks such as The Revolution Will Not Be Televised and Lady Day and John Coltrane. Pieces of a Man is available on vinyl LP.

Neil Young
Harvest Moon

Ah Harvest Moon. Like Bat out Hell 2, it's a key example of how an artist going back to an original blueprint can reap dividends. On Harvest Moon Neil Young captured the vibe of his original Harvest album, with a series of beautifully evocative acoustic songs including utterly essential closer Natural Beauty.

John Parish & Polly Jean Harvey
Dance Hall At Louse Point

An album that tends to be unfairly disregarded as a mere side-project, Dance Hall At Louse Point by PJ Harvey and fellow musician John Parish was released in 1996. With Harvey writing the lyrics and Parish taking care of the music, it was a low-key but absorbing affair upon multiple listens, and now gets a much-deserved re-issue on vinyl.

Nick Cave & Warren Ellis
The Road (Original Film Score)

The Road is a film of the brilliant book by Cormac McCarthy. It details a father and son’s struggle for survival following an ambiguous, devastating event. Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have written and performed the score which captures this struggle and the bleak post-apocalyptic landscape perfectly. Available on vinyl for the first time.

Jacaszek
Pentral

This is a re-issue of a 2009 album where Michal Jacaszek attempted to describe a church by way of sound. The church in question wasn't one particular church but three in Gdansk where he spend time making noises and checking out how the reverb changed the sounds. In effect he used the church as a huge studio, capturing the atmospheres and unique echoes.

Moloko
I Am Not A Doctor

Always ones for an interesting album title, Moloko were a duo out of Sheffield most notable for spawning Roisin Murphy now a successful solo artist in her on right. I Am Not A Doctor was their second album which saw the duo experiment in drum and bass and synth pop. It is notable for containing the track Sing It Back which when remixed by Boris Dlugosch became a dancefloor smash.

The Cardigans
Emmerdale

Emmerdale was the first album by The Cardigans. The Swedish indie-pop sensations went on to much bigger and more well-known things, but this is where it all started for them. It includes their first Black Sabbath cover, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. AND, yes, it is named after the farm-based ITV soap opera. 180g vinyl LP on Polydor.

Pink Floyd
Relics

Few best ofs from the psychedelic era retain their usefulness as well as Relics - an ironic title, given that it almost apologises for four-year-old material that’s now half a century old. The 1971 compilation compiled the essential Syd Barrett-era singles See Emily Play and Arnold Layne along with choice album tracks and b-sides. The latter include the original version of Careful with That Axe, Eugene, Roger Waters’ Julia Dream, and Rick Wright’s Paintbox. In fact Wright emerges as the surprise hero with that track and the lovely Remember a Day, as Waters is still finding his feet with the then previously unreleased Biding My Time. Floyd’s struggle to find a direction following Barrett’s departure yielded mixed results, but this comp remains a cohesive listen, with impeccable track selections and sequencing.

Blueboy
If Wishes Were Horses

Indie pop label Sarah released Blueboy's first record back in 1992, so obviously this is a twee pop affair, though rather than be full of tender full-band choruses and jangly guitars, it's a lot slower and predominantly acoustic. This modest, little known record is back.

Metronomy
Pip Paine (Pay The £5000 You Owe)

The great thing about Metronomy is that their career is a journey....you don't quite get the same thing each time round. This, their remarkably titled debut, shows a sound miles away from the pleasant pop of 'Love Letters'. It's wild electronica with fuzzy guitar riffs and nary a vocal in sight. First time on vinyl from this previously much sought after artefact.

Steve Roach
Quiet Music 3

American ambient / electronic / new age composer Steve Roach recorded three albums based around synths, flute and electric piano known as Quiet Music between 1983 and 1986. Each album in the series has a different reason for existence and Quiet Music 3 was intended to aid his personal healing rituals. Originally released on cassette in 1986, this is the first time it has appeared on vinyl.

Rowland S. Howard
Pop Crimes

'Pop Crimes' was Australian songwriter Rowland S. Howard's second and final album. Released two months before his untimely death in 2009, ‘Pop Crimes’ includes covers of Talk Talk and Townes Van Zandt numbers. Whilst retaining the noir-tinged, bluesy post-punk grit of the previous classic 'Teenage Snuff Film', this one is a much more introspective listen. Rowland left us with a haunting classic that's for sure.

James
Laid

One from the ‘90s, it’s Laid, the 1993 album from Manchester group, James. It reached number 3 in the UK charts at the time and was recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Complex and produced by Brian Eno no less. It’s an album of catchy alternative rock tunes which are undoubtedly ‘90s but just as damn good today. It’s punchy, singalong stuff.

Bombay Bicycle Club
I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose

I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose is the brilliantly titled debut album from Bombay Bicycle Club originally released in 2009. The album showcases their ability to make literate and ambitious indie-rock that was compared at the time to the likes of Bloc Party and Broken Social Scene but also nodded backwards to the ambitious drone and noise of My Bloody Valentine and Loop.

Nine Inch Nails
Pretty Hate Machine

'Pretty Hate Machine' was the first time the public heard Trent Reznor's unique and approachable take on industrial music as Nine Inch Nails. Unlike the distortion heavy goth rock jams of classic releases like 'The Downward Spiral' or 'Broken', NiN's debut is more akin to the synth and electropop of Depeche Mode or New Order, albeit a fair amount darker. It includes the stone-cold classic single 'Head Like A Hole', plus the bangers 'Terrible Lie' and 'Sanctified'. An intriguing release that's a clear standout in Nine Inch Nails' discography, it's hard to believe this classic is over 30 years old.

Bob Dylan
Blonde On Blonde

Colombia are reissuing Legacy Editions of a whole brace of classic Bob Dylan albums, not that they seemed at risk of falling out of print. Blonde on Blonde was recorded in Nashville in 1966, and stretches to full-on double-album length. Includes favourites like ‘Just Like A Woman’ and ‘Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands’.

Lou Barlow
Emoh

Emoh (see what he did there?) was the first actual solo album by Lou Barlow even though he'd recorded solo as Sentridoh back in the day. It saw the Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr and Folk Implosion man delving deep into the dark crevices of his life by way of homespun and folky acoustic pop. Originally released in 2005, this is a 2LP re-issue on Merge.

Whirlpool - The Original Recordings

Key shoegaze outfit Chapterhouse have a treat to share with you here, in the form of all the original recordings that would go on to become their debut album Whirlpool. Furthermore, some tantalising extra tracks are present. Gnarly, heavy and heady, this is a key document of what was going on in the early 90’s for those with their ears to the ground. On Space Age Recordings.

The Shaggs
Shaggs' Own Thing

The Shaggs - a band comprising four sisters from New Hampshire who absolutely could not play their instruments or sing in tune - were largely misunderstood when they arrived on the scene in the late ‘60s.  However, their ‘outsider music’ was loved by the likes of Frank Zappa, NRBQ and later Kurt Cobain. The Shaggs Own Thing was their second album which saw their sound develop and mature somewhat from their ramshackle, yet beautiful beginnings. Here, they try their hand at covering The Carpenters’ Yesterday Once More and re-record their classic, My Pal Foot Foot.

Boris
Feedbacker

'Feedbacker' is Japanese experimental metal band Boris’ masterpiece, encompassing one song divided into five distinct movements. The piece shape-shifts from drone metal to psychedelia, bleeding into stoner metal and glorious noise where even the percussion distorts! ‘Feedbacker’ is a record which perfectly highlights Boris’ chameleonic tendencies, making it an essential record for fans of post-metal, psych rock, drone and noise rock.

Oliver Nelson
Skull Session

Recorded close to the end of his tragically cut-short life in 1975, during sessions for the Flying Dutchman label, Skull Session sees American jazz saxophonist Oliver Nelson in some of the finest form of his stellar career, building synthetic elements into his sound in league with a magnificent backing band including names such as Jerome Richardson and Bill Perkins. It now gets a deluxe re-issue on vinyl, featuring sleeve notes from musician Nat Hentoff.

Breakwater
No Limit / Do It Till The Fluid Gets Hot

Two ultra-rare deep cuts from Philadelphia funk band Breakwater, which both haven’t been available since being released as 12”-only promo versions in 1978, are re-released by Be With Records. ‘No Limit’ is as smooth and radio-friendly as funk comes, while ‘Do It Till The Fluid Gets Hot’ is much more of a party jam.

The Heshoo Beshoo Group
Armitage Road

A highly prized collector’s item since it was originally released back in 1970, Armitage Road was the sole studio recording from The Heshoo Beshoo Group. A critique of the apartheid regime in their native South Africa set to an inventive fusion of American and African jazz traditions, it now gets hugely overdue re-issue on vinyl via We Are Busy Bodies.

Antonio Adolfo
Viralata

Viralata is the big classic for explorers of Brazilian progressive jazz-funk, standing tall above the rest with its fabulous grooves. Antonio Adolfo and his band really nailed it here, earning the album a surprise afterlife as a favourite in seminal London dubstep club Plastic People… Needless to say original copies of this are supremely rare, but this first-time vinyl reissue is here to save the day! On Far Out Recordings.

Mega Wave Orchestra
Mega Wave Orchestra

Mega Wave Orchestra’s eponymous album was originally released in Switzerland in 1988. The duo of composer and mathematician Christian Oestreicher and artist Richard Reimann set out to mix several genres of music thus creating something not heard before. What they’ve given to the world is a mix of classical, jazz, musique concrete and psychedelia. This is compilation which acts as an abridged version of the original.

Pulp
This Is Hardcore

This is Hardcore is the sixth and final album from long running Brit-poppers Pulp and the 'difficult' follow up to their worldwide smash Different Class. Although it had none of the hits of the former, it was a dark and complex work and the sort of artistic statement that showed that the band weren't just Brit-pop stadium puppets. I'd hope in these more enlightened days the artwork would be less degrading to women but them were different days. I'm sure everyone has moved on and learned.
