The new one (Deflect) from Leila is here on Warp, with a lead track featuring Martina Birdy-Chops from off of Maxinquaye singing along in her charming tones to quite a dark, brooding, dare I say Tricky-esque backing that's very well done indeed. I was a bit surprised at the tone given that the last stuff of Leila's I heard was the excellent 'Like Weather' which was ten whole years ago now and sounded completely different to this. She's obviously not come back content with resting on her laurels, during the course of the rest of the EP there are fairy-tale melodies being battered by drum and bass beats, trip-hop with phasey synth washes and industrial drum stabs, folky sounding vocals, the whole shebang. Excellent stuff, bring on the LP!
