9/10 Ant Staff review, 02 May 2008The first of the V/Vm test label's gems being piped into my scone via headphones is a 12"by V/Vm called "There was a fish... in... the percolator" harshly limited to a hand numbered edition of 175 copies in deluxue silk screened sleeves and available with three different coloured covers: Red, brown and green all with matching colour hand written labels, all signed and numbered with "Audio stolen from the black lodge" etched into the runout groove. No expense has been spared with these and they are pretty damn lush. The theme here is visionary director David Lynch's Twin Peaks and the label features Lynch's equation for all round evil bugger and genuinely frightening villain Bob. The audio on the weapons grade vinyl snatches samples of dialogue from the classic movie "Fire Walk With Me" and has been brilliantly selected and sequenced with much of the vocals pitched down which add to the overall menace of the 12". Any Twin Peaks fan will instantly recognize the nightmarish sequence of events and sleazy Angelo Badalamenti backing and wonky, seedy jazz sounds. Taken out of the context of the film some of the words have an almost profound meaning. Forget Moby's go effort from years gone by. This is thee ultimate Twin Peaks record. This is a wicked listen from start to finish, and for the more adventurous DJ's there's also loads of parts that could be slipped into sets/ mixes. This is probably the most evil thing I've heard in a while, thanks not only to the source material but also the way it has been selected, edited and the additional original sounds and effects that augment the terrifying scenarios. I'm gonna drop this at my sons 4th birthday party between 'The Birdie Song' and 'Bob The Builder Theme' and scar all his little snotty nosed buddy's for life... Right, it's a few minutes before the end and I'm gonna turn this off or else I'll have to sleep with the lights on... Oh it also comes with a reproduction of the map found in Owl Cave that shows you how to enter the Black Lodge. If you're looking for a little family break then I don't recommend going there like. Unless of course you want to get murderalized and tormented by midgets talking backwards. Alton towers or Flamingo land would be a far safer bet. Oh fuck the "I am thee arm" bit just came on. Proper shit the bed nightmare business this. I'm gonna crash out tonight wearing a nappy.
