Four Tet: Ringer (Domino) 2x12 or CD are the formats for these four cuts. A slight detour from his usually loose limbed approach to loops made up from generally organic sounds. Mr Hebden's step to one side sees him jumping straight into the rhythmic grids of deep techno and the motorik pulse of krautrock. Only towards the climax of the lead track Ringer, does one get to hear the trademark percussive edits that makes Four Tet's recorded output such a treat. To be honest, I wasn't totally feeling this on first listen. Now the glacial tones and shimmering treble nudge the preset techno sounds (serial hi-hats) to balance my hearing. Ant hears traces of Detroitian Kenny Larkin, in fact if you like the warm, deep, tech-house sound, then you'll like all these tracks. Those of you already converted to Four Tet's organic/synthetic collision may not get enough of the organic (well maybe the production ethos is) but there's plenty within the grid to get loose to.
