'The Queen Is Dead' is thought by many to be the Smiths greatest achievement. Not for me, nothing with 'Vicar In A Tutu' on it should ever be considered a classic. However it does contain many of their greatest moments, the title track, 'There is a Light....' and 'Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others' to name but three. The Smiths at their confident best just before things started to go slightly wrong.

Subsequent songs found on "Louder Than Bombs" and "Strangeways" may have been more accessible to the casual listener, but this is the penultimate Smiths album and tops many peoples lists as favourite album. From the sinister title track to the irresistibly catchy "Frankly Mr. Shankly," to... well, I'm about to list every track because there isn't a loser in the bunch. I can easily listen to this entire album without hitting the "skip track" button. The band seemed to be the most together and perform on this album with that great mix of confidence born of experience while still having the enthusiasm of being young artists.
It may take a few listens to get into it, but once you do, it'll never leave you.
