Disco disco disco. If I were actually in a stable relationship with some nice bossy girl who wanted me to work off my well Northern lager & curry gut i'd only accept going somewhere as horrendous, pointless & sterile as a gym if I could listen to the new Digital Penetration 2 compilation on loop on my MP3. Brett hated this, probably thought it were the work of retarded gerbils with computers all e'd off their furry nuts an' that. Sporting rodentshades (tm) and UV leggings, these hairy ballbags make some very effervescent 8 bit style tunes that are stuffed to the cheeks with some great itchy post kraftwerkian melodies. They and their hamster mates go by crazy infant science names such as Metronomy, Glass Candy, Grabba Grabba Tape, Kap Bambino, Cleckhuddersfax, Groupgris, Late of the Pier and DJ Mendhi. There's reason to buy this bargain digi-psych rave comp especially as it's chocka with loads of fascinating remixes & demo versions. Rodentcore is well gibbering and dayglo, chomping at the bit, pissing in the straw of authority and shitting your face off with it's banging cyber rhythms. Well fucking futile.
Right then, Digital Penetration Volume 2.. I've got to be honest, the tracks on this comp generally range from the almost bearable to the massively numpty. Expect lots of excitable broken Gameboy anthems verging on happy hardcore, a bit of Italians Do It Better sort of disco, funk tributes and an incredibly blatant Gary Numan takeoff from Late of the Pier. Cleckhuddersfax turn in a good performance though, they're a cut above most of what they've been surrounded with here. Other artists on here include Kap Bambino, Metronomy, Kavinsky, Glass Candy and Grabba Grabba Tape.. I'd like to tie most of them up in a big bundle and slap them with a giant hand made of kippers. Brian likes it though, the nutter.
