9/10 Phil Staff review, 20 February 2008
Televise had a cracking single out a while back which we liked so much we gave it single of the week. A reasonably rare occurrence that only happen 51/52 times a year. How many singles are released each year? Thousands.... we choose 52.... that's a lorra losers as Cilla would say. Well tonight Matthew, Televise bring us a new 9 track album on Distant Noise Records. Secret Valentine is limited to just 100 copies so I can't imagine it hanging around for long given the amount we shifted of their last release. It's a album of pastoral lovelyness making me think of a more spaced out Hood/ Epic 45.... It's really lovely drifty sounding stuff with acoustic guitars, lo fi hum, crackles fizzles, wispies and pops. Sounds like the best cereal ever... wispy pops. You read it here first. This is defo for the shoegaze massive... Though some complete wangnut has coined the nu gaze genre of which this would squarely fit. I'd still kick their face off for being all clever like. We'll have none of that around these parts. I suspect you'll need some new shoes after listening to this. Lovely stuff...

10/10 Morr Maniac Customer review,

This album is a real treasure and my favourite Televise release so far.

Simon being in the group Seavault on Morr Music makes sense as the first few tracks could be Morr releases. The album then moves brilliantly into Fennesz/My Bloody Valentine textures and could actually be a Type/12k/Kranky release as it becomes more electronic and experimental. A hint of Alva noto/Shuttle358 glitchy beats on the unexpected final track hint at what Televise may do next perhaps?

A wonderful melodic album and it is my favourite release of 2008 so far!
