8/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 5th June 2015

Dawn Landes ploughs the furrow of Americana, folksy-alt. country music but with a twist of indie rock thrown in. Her third album, “Fireproof” opens with “Bodyguard” on which the snare hits and plodding bass would have you believe you’re listening to Pixies until the banjo comes in. “Tired Of This Life” is brilliant and the best example of her more rootsy side and would appeal to fans of Gillian Welch. “Twilight” is good too, with its beautiful harmonies and “You Alone” sees her doing a kind of Sentridoh lo-fi acoustic thing, which is quite beautiful. Elsewhere, there’s a hint of Cat Power on “Private Little Hell” and it closes with a lovely, understated cover of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down”. This is my favourite of her records.
