Scott Da Ros. Great name, great guy. But it's not his brand of dark, brooding stumble-hop I'm talkin' 'bout today but 3 CD releases on or associated with his fine label Endemik. First up is a bloody great work by Seattle's FILKOE with the delightful title of 'Lost Zoo Keys & the Animal Spirits that Haunt Them'. It caught my wonky ear did this beaut. I immediately thought of Restiform Bodies & Themselves. You know, the catchy as an eager tuna quirk-pop-hop with rapid fire sing-song rapping that takes you on a total journey. It's the mesmerising samples this chap uses. He's done stuff as Filkoe176 before which I ain't checked but this homie knows how to infuse great beats, wildly random motifs, eerie keys & crazy snatches of sound to great effect. Therefore resulting in a wholesome, eccentric & utterly enjoyable cosmic workout which is both accesible & bizarre. His lyrics are just crackers. "Duck-billed Platypi" anyone? Da Ros looks to be responsible for the production here. Go see http://www.myspace.com/filkoe176
