Is The Actor Happy?, the 1995 album by Georgia, USA singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt, has been out of print for absolutely ages, so this reissue is a pleasure to see. It even includes six bonus tracks of Vic’s country-flavoured poetics. This is warm and lyrical songwriting, and Is The Actor Happy? is considered one of his finest records. Produced by Michael Stipe. 2LP on New West.

8/10 Jack Customer review, 25th June 2017

Vic had such a distinctive, honest voice that when you hear his songs, you know it's Vic. You feel both happy and sad when you listen to his songs. The expanded album contains bonus tracks such as the fabulous "Parameters," and "Duck in a Tree," a ragged live song that sounds like early Lambchop, with whom Chesnutt would combine to make 1998's The Salesman and Bernadette. There are albums of his which I probably prefer, including Silver Lake, but this is a great place to start out of his many works.
