A chap from New Zealand has his collected works discreetly shoehorned into the Western Sphere and the world should look upon these audio gems, jewel eyed & utterly enchanted. The heartening fact is that EMI are genuinely trustworthy & enthusiastic about DFA founder James Murphy's pan global explorations into wilder, purer territories. You've a Pylon reissue to consume soon but for now we must talk SHOCKING PINKS. No shit here. This is ecstatic music made by a man with a vision. It sounds like My Bloody Valentine, New Order, Hood, The Clean, Liquid Liquid, Pavement & Eggs & every free thinking band known to man. A rich tapestry of atmospheric otherworldly sound, caressed, tremeloed guitars, manic pop hooks, wistful psychedelics, Frantic basement percussion & breathless energy. There's a Certain Ratio arguing with Trash (a fabulous NZ band from the early 90's) Imagine Slowdive falling into blisssed out wonky lo-fi boudoirs! Honestly, this is the most fucking beautiful album of schizo underground indie I've heard since the Department of Eagles album a few years back. It just flows, grows & explodes. I'm off over backpacking the little islands in October & this is MY soundtrack to the Autumn. Pure, delightful & fresh from start to finish. Possibly my album of the year, no joke. The indies have a handful of bonus CDs to give away free, which is a comp of all the teaser 7"s & b-sides & remixes. This is one for the glass of wine & duvet posse over winter & therefore is utterly life affirming! LOL x Brian
