Tom James Scott: 'Red Deer' (Bo'Weevil) Starts out like the Bagpuss soundtrack with minimal acoustic guitars and what sounds like harp strings. Fans of James Blackshaw will appreciate the feel of this five track collection, housed in a hand printed case. The third and title track comes over like some sort of Iberian flavoured slow dance, neither Flamenco or Fado. This atmosphere is amplified by a slow motion drift epitomized by the way each and every note is given space to breathe adding to the slightly romantic and pastoral vibe of each piece. The end piece ups the ante a little with some off kilter tuning welded to a kind uptempo, playful sort of romp. A very enjoyable listen, one which will probably get better with each listen.
