Liars by Liars

Possibly the most famous of the Liars LPs (though ‘Drums Not Dead’ may have something to say about that), the band’s 2007 eponymous effort still confounds and thrills in equal measure. There’s noisy, couched rock in here - think the outer fringes of pre-‘Float On’ Modest Mouse - but this often comes up against a whirligig post-industrialism reminiscent of Coil. The influence of Liars’ Berlin forebears Einstürzende Neubauten can also be felt.

From here we are presented with a variety of styles and genres from Beck sounding rock songs to ambient tribal cave paintings to the somber Joy division. (... and Sonic Youth) Always subversive, its schizophrenic in its output taking you higher and wider than you'd dare tread without the cushion of music to explain the madness. A totally driven and exciting collection of songs from a bunch of fellas with the freedom of the city at their finger tips and on this release we see them paint the town red black AND blue. Dr Productino prescribes this album for constipation and rock moments galore...
