Turnstone: "S/T" (Three Lobed) Recorded a couple of years ago, this limited edition, hand numbered CD collects five tracks culled from a session recorded one warm, no-doubt sunny, August Californian day. After consuming one or two Guinness', Tom Carter (who forms part of the duo that produced "A Rather Solemn Promise" on The Great Pop Supplement) teams up with Robert Horton and Michael Shannon to produce: extended drone-tone poems, meandering pullings; plucking's; strums; scrapes; and durational breathing exercises. Listed amongst the traditional lapsteel, guitar, tenor sax and gamelan are oddities like a vibrator, teasel, dental floss and electric toothbrush (amongst other 'things') put to good effect, but your guess is as good as mine what was used for what. It's safe to say this is more experimental free/psyche folk jammed with an air of consideration and understanding evident in the sparseness of playing and the ease with which the players let the sounds speak for themselves. I'm mumbling on now. I really should tie this up by mentioning the fact that this session was edited down from the original Irish stout toasted session. For fans of The Great Pop Supplement's stuff, Corsano/Flower Duo, Vibracathedral Orchestra, Sun Burned Hand Of The Man etc etc...I can picture the sund drenched porch. Folky bliss for ya!
