I heard this Fuzz Against Junk 7" a couple of weeks ago and it blew me away. Here we have 3 covers of really obscure records.... The lead track (Ballad Of The Hip Death Goddess) is a cover of a tune by Ultimate Spinach (great band name!) doing a beautiful psych folk tune which drips sassyness and oozes sheer brilliance. It kind of reminds me of some of the Various Production folky efforts. It's absolutely beautiful and remarkably the saxophone in it doesn't bother me at all. That's some feat to get a sax in a record and me not go racing for the stereo throwing stabby knives at it or something. I hate saxophones.... satan's doing. Fortunately the woman's voice is like someone pouring chocolate down your ears.  The second track is by Miriam Makeba and that's a well dark fuzzy mess of a thing which is suitably disturbed and would possibly have the young Ant here looking for his wallet. I swear I can hear a dalek in it... The 3rd and final track is their own composition and it's great piece of 60's psyche pop which reminds me of Jefferson Airplane and other drugged up loonies. Marvellous!!
