JOANNA NEWSOM & THE YS STREET BAND! (good Springsteen gag) Here she is again our helium filled heroine this time with a band in tow. Sounding medieval she skips over the harp and vocals like a sprite on fast forward. It really does capture a wonderful moment in time and I'm totally sucked into the period drama. Track 2 (which is a different version of a song from her first album) drops the tempo and we're treated to a more refined melancholy muse with male backing vocals. Enchanting, charming. Its the space the harp leaves that leaves you soothed. Phil's thinking its more coherent than the last album (which was a big sprawling mess... P x) and its all sounding lovely and like the land of oz where munchkins and witches play. long live the harp

8/10 Ant Currie Customer review, 10th May 2014

Joanna Newsom delights our ears with a lovely off kilter EP from her live backing band at the time. A-side Colleen is the only new track here, with alternate versions of older songs Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie & Cosmia as the other tracks. This EP catches Joanna at a time when her repertoire was in mid flux, it still has all the childlike exuberance of her first album, but also manages to showcase her evolving style and soon to come Kate Bush-esque vocals. A must have for any fan.
