KEIRAN HEBDEN and STEVE REID have their third collaboration album 'Tongues' forthcoming on Domino. There are two remix 12" that precede the album. Currently playing is the HOLDEN remix of 'The Sun Never Sets'. The framework is of a deep/ tech house track but don't be mislead. This is a totally wonky mix with collapsing percussion clattering and dis-orientating changes in pitch. I can imagine a dancefloor full of people E'd up falling about and blowing chunks as this slice of sonic sea sick. I've been slightly distracted by engaging in a conversation with Phil about an advert for a new product that 'loosens stools'. We reckon it's well sinister... Back to the task in hand.... The original mix is a studio track (the previous 2 albums being live improvised works) with trademark Fourtet electronics and Reid's drums playing less of a role. This reminds Phil of a Prefuse 73 remix of Daedalus. The other 12" features an extended version of 'Rhythm Dance' which is a jazz-tronic piece with paranoid bassline and loads of crazy bleeps. The new material stands out a lot more than the other stuff. Ghostly International artist Audion shows up for a remix and does his minimal techno thing using Hebden's bleeps and a clicky beat. Will appeal to fans of the Minus / Kompakt stuff.
