MAPS AND DIAGRAMS next with 'Onomatopoeia'. Yes, a new full length from Jim Marvin, this cavalcade of atmospheric prettiness & spooky space head electronica is not gonna disappoint the faithful. His downtempo blend of head calming glitch & crackle, slo-mo abstract beats & transient synthscapes never fails to have me heading for the hammock. Track 4 for instance, 'Spatula in Hand' impresses us loads, sounding like a great lost Skam track, quite eerie & disjointed with a fascinating staggering quirk-beat & incredibly spooky atmospherics. His style is resolutely old skool, for the folk that hanker after the glory days of labels Toytronic but there's a crisp progressive edge to the music that deeply satisfies. Phil utters the immortal words "best thing he's done in ages" but he says that about everything by Vim Larvin. I think he's a bit of a fanatic. This may well have sold out by the time you read this as there's only 100 copies in the world. Sorry for any disappointments.
