9/10 Brian Staff review, 01 March 2007
I was gonna review a 7" by some lackluster indie band but fell asleep after a minute so had to be roused by this CD by DALEK  They are the shit you know. 'Absence', the last LP sounded like the two heavy dudes who comprise the band were dragging skyscrapers behind them as they strolled down the block in their bodybag boiler suits no doubt smoking dead babies. 'Abandoned Language' is a lighter affair but seems to carry this attitude, this weight-of-the-world flurry of layered noise that could be the sound of all around you compressed into a vacuum packed wail of torment. But there's hope in there, amongst the looming, hypnotic bass, deep beats & the aforementioned vortex of gradually absorbing noise. Yes they're still paying homage to MBV, Faust & other pioneers of intense atmospheric sound but infusing it with a constantly fresh & engaging take on Hip Hop. I honestly think these guys are heavy hitters, the raps are ominous & deep, the music is dark, driving & fascinating, pure adrenaline for the mind. These chaps ain't no indie fakers either. They straddle the big chasm between avant garde & mainstream hip hop, appealing to electronic  heads & left field indie kids as well as fans of say, Wu Tang Clan & other visionary hip hop like Cannibal Ox.  This has to be our AOTW x Brian Dangerhorse
