7/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 24th July 2015

David Vandervelde's debut album "The Moonstation House Band" was recorded in ex-Wilco member Jay Bennett's basement studio and released in 2007. The most striking thing about the record is that his voice sounds a lot like Marc Bolan check out "Feet Of A Liar". The music is of a kind of retro '70s singer/songwriter style and not the crunchy guitar led-glam rock of T-Rex, although there are moments that sound like Bolan's early work. There are lush arrangements with strings and horns and kitchen sinks. Overall, it possibly bears a resemblance to The Sleepy Jackson. "Courdroy Blues" is a sweeping ballad, "Wisdom From A Tree" has post-Beatles style production and is a stand out track and "Can't See Your Face No More" has a catchy chorus.
