AUGUST STARS have a full length CDr out on Make Mine Music. Ambience has never sounded so fine. Drifting, minimal & sparse atmospherics dedicated to the bleak season, 'Midwinter' is a treat. It's perfect for chilling out too of an eve, even melting off into a cocoon of sleep. I really didn't used to understand beatless ambient music but am much more enamoured with it these days. There's tracks on this arctic glider of a recording that you barely notice are there, then a magical glacial chiming will appear over the low thrum that's purely meditative, at once icy & warm, like clanging frozen chimes suspended in the arctic tundra. A rare treat on make Mine Music. Well worth yr four quid!!

10/10 Rob Record Customer review, 6th June 2009

I love every minute of this release and listen to it over and over again. Best listened to at night, I find it evocative of cold, dark landscapes, in a comforting way. 5 stars.

6/10 Renars Customer review,

really left me unimpressed, it's indeed 'beatless ambient' as being described by Normans, but it's painfully plain, one-dimensional and 'nothing-ever-happens'-type of thing. I do love MMM releases, but this time it's a pass for me. Go for Labradford, Murcof or Aube instead
