9/10 Mex Mexico Customer review, 28th October 2014
So I walk into the bedroom and there are clothes fucking everywhere. They are lying on the bed smoking and listening to this shit. I know it's not mine cause I only had the CD and you can really fucking hear the bass on this and its in a fancy box and shit like it matters.
They weren't expecting me because I am early. I got fucking sacked today. I was bored so I got pissed and told some random customer to go fuck themselves. They were disabled or something and that mattered for some reason.
And he looks shocked and awed and wants to know why I am there. All he can say is 'this is the best album, this is the best album'
I consider him. It does have Shoe Song on which is fucking awesome. It also has New Number Order on it which quite frankly is like putting your knob in a cheese grater. He says 'It's got the famous one on it. the one the kids cover on YouTube'. He seems to be forgetting he fucked my girlfriend, all my girlfriends.
It's got that one about Mama Gina and Angelina which is pretty good.
'Fuck you' I say 'Squirrel Song' and its a real fucking song, not a metaphor.
And she tries to defend him. I bless her for that, there is some level of forgiveness there.
And he wants a fight. And I want a fight. And we are about to have a fight. And then he says "Canaveral is really good, its about infidelity, you can understand can't you?'
And then I snap.
Him just fucking kill him, I don't care if it hurts.

8/10 Simon Franklin Customer review,
One of the greatest things about Shellac is their musical honesty; three guys playing brutal guitar, bass and drums with no frills or overdubs. They are the musical equivalent of being constantly pounded in the face by a metal press.1000 Hurts is Shellac?s third album, and like it?s predecessors is beautifully packaged; the vinyl record comes in a mock-up of a reel-to-reel tape box with a copy of the CD version chucked in at no extra cost. Following an announcement of the records technical details comes the opening track 'Prayer To God' in which front-man Steve Albini asks the man upstairs to dispose of a former lover (by disease or accident) and her new beau (by what ever way comes to hand) Kill him/ F*****g kill him/Just kill him!! screams our Steve. Given that Albini can allegedly be an extremely difficult individual to deal with, it is interesting to speculate whether this song is genuine hate or just an example of a very black sense of humour. Make of it what you will.'Mama Gina' features a lengthy but classic Shellac intro, and following the lyrical section, Albini?s guitar explodes into an orgasm of grungy distorted noise underpinned with ferocious drumming. Glorious.'QRJ' is an instrumental which features radio static in the background so the title could refer to a radio call-sign. 'Canaveral' is another revenge song. In it an un-named guy worms his way into Albini?s life and ends up with his wife! Whether this story is true or not, Albini sounds pretty pissed off (as you would) and dreams of blasting the guy into space, hence the title; Cape Canaveral is where US space missions are launched from. The final track 'Watch Song' is furiously played with lyrics that see Albini offering someone out for a fight. This entire album appears to be dominated by violence and death. It?s ten songs bring little new to Shellac?s musical canon but suffice to say if you have enjoyed their previous works then 1000 Hurts should be added to your collection.
