A rumbling bass & some languid breakbeats overlay some bleakly pastoral, melancholy electronics & restrained synth washes on the first De-Fence release. This is the experimental electronic offshoot of Fence records. They're doing a whole series of rather tasty limited split 10"s & ON THE FLY + REPORTER share duties on this introductory volume. 'High Street' is graced with a heartbreaking vocal by KING CREOSOTE, a great opening tune 'Submachine' is an utterly different bugger, Slo-mo retro electro-hop with a kinda squelching, stomping, juddering feel. I could imagine this shuffling a few feet in a smoke filled back room somewhere. Like the DIY feel. Reporter provide us with yearning, poignant & totally lovely downtempo electronica that wouldn't have seemed out of place on Static Caravan a few years ago. It's called 'Apropos' and rules. Closer 'Cafe del Crail' is lo-fi drift off bliss with a kinda Fleetwood Mac vibe to the guitar. True folky trip hop for chill heads. It really does sound like a Scottish Ibiza in here. Go no further. Excellent!
