8/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 17th November 2014

“Boys and Girls in America” is the third album by The Hold Steady. To my mind they have made an original classic rock record and yet avoided many clichés. There are references to literature in the opening line of “Stuck Between Stations”, “There are times when I think Sal Paradise was right” and there are tales of booze and boozing but they tend to be of a more solitary nature as evidenced in “Party Pit” with the refrain “Gonna walk around and drink some more”. The bar room sing-a-long “Chips Ahoy” is one of the standouts as is closing track “Southtown Girls”.
