8/10 Brian Staff review, 03 December 2006
I made a bit of an arse of me'sen t'other day when I fink I upset a couple of Sunderland folk in a review of The Golden Virgins LP. I also called The Futureheads godawful yet no-one took me to task about that. But since hearing the LP a couple of times I must admit they are actually REALLY good (now I've got over the Proclaimers style vocals & XTC obsession). I'm also DJ'ing at a festival they're playing at so I better keep me trap shut.. To It's credit Sunderland has produced a plethora of excellent bands over the years, from the spunky Kenickie to, more recently,  T'Virgins 'n' T'Heads, taking along the way outfits such as the excellent Red Monkey, Spraydog, This Ain't Vegas, Electronic Eye Machine & erm....Milky Wimpshake. Ahem.. All those I've listed bar Kenickie & The Golden Virgins are featured on a most reasonably priced comp called "Twice The Town You'll Ever Be" which opens with the excellent "A to B" by The Futureheads and races through some spiky & thrilling post hardcore jerkiness & fresh as a daisy indie pop that makes me want to punch the air with glee & go to more gigs. Buy this over everything this week cos It rules (bar a couple of duffers!) 18 trax for fans of those marvelous Unlabel comps I'd say
