9/10 Brian Staff review, 15 November 2006
I'm an absolute sucker for old analogue electro. 2 of my favourite compilations are 'The Forgotten Sounds of Tomorrow', an Ersatz Audio collection from 6 years ago on Adult's superb Detroit based imprint & a vinyl comp called 'Trumpett Sounds' on the Dutch electro archive label Enfant Terrible. One of the best tracks on that fine round up is by ENDE SHNEAFLIET from1982. These guys released most of their totally pioneering music on cassettes between '81-'83, some all their own, others underground comps. Now released on a lovingly compiled twin vinyl set entitled 'Twistin' on the Tombstones', this fantastic group can be placed on a pedestal with the likes of Caberet Voltaire, early New Order & embryonic Human League for taking avant electro to strange dizzying new heights. I'm reviewing this LP purely for indulgent reasons - I think this ground breaking & furiously exiting music was the next evolutionary step for electronic sound after Kraftwerk & deserves to be heard. I'm fed up of middle of the road bullshit. This is the real deal. For instance track 4, 'Comunication' is an intense, blistering dark affair, all minimal alien psychosis with a wicked drum track & 'Rendez-vous met Betsy' has strong echoes of early Cocteaus which showcases their pure diversity, their yin & yang. Truly this is a lost treasure (as far as i'm concerned) & if you lean towards lo-fi early eighties experimental pop then you may want to indulge. There's only 500 for the world & we have 2 left so prepare for a week's wait if you miss out whilst we order more. Beautiful.....
