Another prime cut of quality indie comes courtesy of THE VICTORIAN ENGLISH GENTLEMEN'S CLUB & their debut self titled CD. More than a sum of their parts, a boy & two girls, this Pixies inspired band sure know how to string a powerful tune together. I like his voice, it's slightly nerdy & cracked yelpy style complimenting the Kim Deal-a-like backing vocals. Unlike other Pixies rip off bands, this crew have plenty of their own ideas so the songs belong entirely to them even if the sound does occasionally mimic Fat Frank's uber lords of psychotic surf grunge. Great stripped down production, clean & fresh sounding, the songs uncluttered & direct, the entire album is enormous fun & probably better than 80% of debut albums released this year. Smashing. Includes all the tracks from the singles BTW!

8/10 Ben Keeler Customer review,

The Victorian English Gentlemen's Club are great at making catchy tunes, and they're often remeniscent of The Pixies and The B-52s, which is a fantastic sound to imitate! It's even more organised than what Blood Red Shoes are trying to do, and there ain't a bad track on the album! High five!
