A perfect start to the day is this CD by THE COLLECTORS we've been caning rather a lot. It's one of those ideal Summer albums is 'Galapagos', with beautiful sealife embellished artwork & once inside, you're stolen away on a blissful aquatic journey into the deepest realms of uber-quality chill out. Air are perhaps a band to be name checked from the off yet I feel this is way, way beyond coffee table dinner party background muzak. There's none of that sultry vapid vocal action to suggest you're muntered in some sappy Ibiza bar. This gorgeous music has real soul & depth with stirring strings & in places, an almost spectral chamber music vibe hiding under the warm, multi layered organics. There's some smashing trippy guitars on this album floating above exotic tinged melodies, so sublime they hurt. Yes this perfectly formed beast is one to take you on the most breathtaking journey. So here you have a twisty, windy journey into cinematic acid folk electronica for peeps wanting a whole lot more than the ikea soul of Zero 7 or Blue States. I've read State River Widening & Plaid in one review for instance. Ant says imagine Black Dog with real instrumentation even. This really is one of those mighty forces that'll be sneaking into everyone's collections over the next couple of years. It makes me feel like I'm on the best holiday ever.
