Looks like I got all the freaky stuff this week. A 12" by Ultramodern that is completely baffling. The A-side is an exercise in repetition based around a looped beat that has me thinking I'm on some techno train to Kansas with a bunch of yokels. I've tried it on both speeds & really don't know what the hell is going on apart from some processed Link Wray style guitar effect that blurts out midway & a pulse of bass. It's the most queer lo-fi slab of vinyl I've heard in a long time. I really think it works best on 33 even though you start to go a bit mad with this edgy feeling you've moved into a house next door to an ACME cowboy techno factory that keeps on trucking 24/7. I can't get past the B-sides as they respectively sample ragtime & some looped clock chime & will surely have me in a state of terror after 10 minutes.
