A re-issue for Orange, the fourth studio album from garage/blues revivalists Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Originally released in 1994, and fronted by the scintillating single ‘Bellbottoms’, which played such a prominent part in the movie Baby Driver recently, the album received plenty of acclaim for its brilliantly unhinged delivery.

8/10 Penrith Steve 21st July 2015

“Orange” opens up with the muscular thump of “Bellbottoms” as the song develops a stringy blues riff appears, then orchestral strings. This is epic Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. “Dang” is a noisy blues rocker with distorted harmonica to the fore, punctuating Jon Spencer’s unstoppable utterances. In contrast “Very Rare” is a cool low groove. Other stand outs include the title track, the groovy "Flavor", “Brenda” and "Blues X Man" with its cheerleader chorus. Jon Spencer is very cool. The blues is number one! The blues is number one!
