6/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 8th July 2015

Whilst Pavement drummer Steve West is not a bona fide oddball like his predecessor, Gary Young, he is still quite a strange man. It shows on "Sunset Sprinkler" the second album by his band, Marble Valley. There's some good ideas on here but the execution lets them down. "Triple E" is sounds most like Pavement, but more like a Scott Kannenberg song than a Malkmus one - this album doesn't go near any of Pavement's best stuff. The melody could be okay, but it's like silliness or apathy take over. The same with "Cerveza" which kind of drills in to your ears with its repetitiveness. Meh.
