Clint here eating a delicious satsuma and
about to give you the run down on some truly brilliant releases this week. First
up and absolutely corking retrospective by Cocteau Twins. Its entitled
'Lullabies to Violaine - Singles and Extended Play 1982-1996' and its a
collection of all the singles and B sides of one of the finest bands to walk
God's green earth. Absolutely essential purchase for anyone who doesn't already
own everything they've done. If you've already heard them then you'll have your
credit card at the ready. If you haven't heard them then they were
the band that effectively invented what was later known as shoegazing.
Ethereal indie music with indescribable female vocal yelps and lashings of
treated guitar effects. The mountainous monoliths of Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Bjork,
Radiohead, have probably all listened to a Cocteau Twins record or
two in their time. Comes with beautiful fold out packaging. On 4AD.
