New Plastic Ideas was the third album by Olympia, Washington’s post-hardcore noise-rockers Unwound. It was originally released in 1994 on the classic Kill Rock Stars label. The guitar-bass-drums soar with hair-raising speed and indefatigable pounding all served up at the odd angles that were de rigueur back in them there ‘90s. Reissue LP on Numero Group.

8/10 Customer review, 31st January 2018

This album will make little sense to the uninitiated. Nevertheless, Unwound is gifted and driven, and this album has some of their best stuff: the music on this album defies all prior musical tradition. It's loud but not aggressive, dark but not angry, emotional but not mopey or sad. The sound is absolutely massive and Justin's feedback squalls and tense yelling/singing are all over the place, but it all somehow evokes a sort of emotional comfort that is both sad and desperate and hopeful and yearning all at once.
