Methodrone by The Brian Jonestown Massacre

See how clever the Brian Jonestown Massacre are in titling their records with words that partly infer drugs and partly infer music. See also: oh actually this is pretty much the only one. Anyway it perfectly describes their twin loves of getting wasted and making repetitive psychedelic music. This was their debut album initially released in 1995 and sees a short sideburned Anton Newcombe and co explore the glories of shoegaze sounding somewhat like Spacemen 3 and somewhat like My Bloody Valentine

8/10 Clinton 14 August 2009

Clinton awoke from his slumbers on overhearing the news that theres another Brian Jonestown Massacre album out. This time its called 'Methadrone' which is a very typical Brian Jonestown Massacre title.

A further internet investigation tells me its not a new album at all but a re-issue of a 2004 album. Musically its just what you'd expect from them, droney early Stones guitars, spaced out vocals and the feeling you have just been transformed back into a dusty basement studio sometime in the 1960's.

Anyway, back to bed.

Methadrone ain't from 2004 guys, it's the very first BJM album from 1995 I believe. Bomp might have reissued it in 2004. Never been on vinyl before - save me a copy!
