6/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 4th November 2014

Dr. Dog do their best to sound like late period Beatles, albeit a mid-fi version. I also can’t help but think of Emitt Rhodes, who himself was a McCartney-a-like. There’s some nice melodies here “The World May Never Know” and “Oh No” are particularly catchy. On the title track they sound like they could be in with the Elephant 6 collective. I think that this album starts well and drops off quite dramatically. It’s half good, half not so good. On “Say Something” they sound like they can’t even be bothered any more. “Dutchman Falls” sounds like one of the lesser tracks from Neutral Milk Hotel’s “In An Aeroplane Over The Sea”, i.e. anything but “Holland 1945”. I wanted to like this more, but find it difficult.
