I always thing that if Scott Herren is lord of the tronica's stateside then Kieren Hebden ie Fourtet is king of the UK scene. Its not always easy to see why though even a moaning old minnie like me can see that tracks 2 and 3 of this new single are superb. Yep I'm going to review this record in reverse order. You'll see why in a minute - track 3 is a reworking of 'Sun Drums and Soil' by Hebden himself and its a fucking winner. There's some amazing chiming sounds and the drums are pretty extraordinary.   Track 2 is 'Sun Drums and Soil' original version its all done rather well and the horns at the end are incredible. Track 1 here is the abomination, Its a re-working of 'Sun Drums and Soil' by Sa-ra Creative Partners. Its a truly horrid wibbly jazz funk workout that should have been strangled at birth or at least been consigned to the bonus or hidden track department. On Domino. On 3" CD and 12".

I got this record on white label promo (not from Norman Records), merely a stiffener to protect the record that I had purchased. The record itself is in a poor state, but the clicking and interference adds to the effect. I whole-heartedly agree with the staff review, the first track is an abomination, whilst the second two are brilliant, especially 'Sun, Drums & Gamelan' the percussion is intense. If you haven't got a clue what Gamelan is, use Wikipedia, you either love it or hate it in my opinion, but in this context it is a truly incredible listen.
