6/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 1st November 2014

More lush production than earlier albums, for me, polishes The Pernice Brothers a little too much on the opening track of “Discover A Lovelier You”, their 4th studio album. That is followed by the album’s best track however, “The Saddest Quo”, which has all the hallmarks of a Joe Pernice classic, but otherwise their sound has moved further away from the Scud Mountain Boys sound that remained in patches on previous albums. The slide guitar parts on “Dumb It Down” a reminiscent of George Harrison’s solo work, the title track is an instrumental that makes me feel a little uncomfortable – it’s like something you’d hear whilst on hold. “Subject Drop” is Teenage Fanclub-ish. This album is okay, but I feel a bit bored by it. Perhaps I expect too much or something different.
