- Pause by Four Tet (Fourtet)
9/10 Phil Staff review, 28 January 2007This Fourtet LP is beautiful. Mentioned this a while back and it really is lovely stuff. It's instrumental, ambient in places, has a nice chinesy feel. Find it really hard to describe for some reason but it trust me cos it's one of the best records I've heard this year... I can't do with the word folktronica but this is a superb blend of acoustics and electronic music. Pause is an incredibly strong debut CD!
8/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 19th July 2015
Four Tet aka Kieran Hebden is an electronica veteran these days but fourteen years ago when this came out he was a fresh-faced 23 year old with a load of new ideas. “Pause” is Four Tet’s second album but first for indie behemoth Domino. What is refreshing about “Pause” is the mix of live instruments, samples and electronics. As the tracks build all sorts of sounds are flying out of the speakers.
“Glue Of The World” is beautiful opener and could soundtrack my entire day to ensure my head stays on straight. “No More Mosquitoes” was the first single to be taken from the album and has a pleasing hip-hopish plod as instruments and vocal lines fall in and fall out. “Parks” is another standout track. This is a quite beautiful album.
