9/10 Clinton Staff review, 28 November 2006
Thank God then that someone has chosen to re-issue Cardinal's self titled debut CD somewhat of a lost classic in the 1990's. Cardinal was Richard Davies and Eric Matthews who both went on to release a few decent solo albums but this is probably their masterpiece. Its a beautiful album with a late 60's tinge and chamber music overtones. At its best it recalls Love's 'Forever Changes' or anything by the Zombies. Its not all plain sailing  - there are one or two tracks that don't quite work but still its a million billion squillion times better than anything I have heard this year. The re-issue comes with 11 bonus tracks and we have the Deluxe hand numbered (of 500) edition and the normal cheaper edition.

10/10 mike Customer review,

This LP is so good that I bought it twice! I got the original version but had to snap up this lavish reissue - remastered sound, 11 bonus tracks and fascinating liner notes from Richard Davies and Eric Matthews. Onto the music - a heady brew of The Zombies, The Left Banke and Love, with a dash of Bowie. Eric Matthews' voice is breathy and lush like Elliott Smith or Colin Blunstone, while Richard Davies' voice is grittier and more stringy. Together they come up with some amazing harmonies, and their melodies are gorgeous - timeless sixties hooks with a 90s alternative pop sensibility. This is an ace CD that you will not regret purchasing!
